SIEBREINIGUNGSGERAET CLEANING TROLLEY FOR FILTER ELEMENTS
TYP 5.04
2. General
The Filter Element Cleaning Unit was developed to simplify and improve the manual

cleaning of complete assemblies of mesh-type filter elements or individual mesh filter

elements by soaking in cleaning fluid followed by washing under high pressure. Other small

components can also be cleaned using this unit.

The unit is constructed of mild steel sheet and consists of a soaking tank with a pipe

connecting it to the spraying tank, a sub-frame with castors, a high pressure pump, a pump

protection filter, a super-fine filter on the pump discharge side and a hand-held pistol with

quick-action couplings, allowing easy interchange of the cleaning lances.

The size designation after the type numer, eg. Type 5.04.355/500 indicates the maximum

size of filter element or assembly which can be cleaned, in this case a diameter of 355 mm

and a length of 500 mm.

Cleaning Agent

We recommend "BOLL CLEAN 2000"

(see technical information sheet for "BOLL CLEAN 2000")

absorption and connected to the super-fine filter with high-pressure hose.
Pump: 3-Stage plunger-type axial pump
Pressure relief: ca. 85 bar
Delivery rate: ca. 9 l/min.
Liquid temperature: max. 70 deg C

Operating voltage
Motor: AC 380 V / 50 Hz
AC 440 V / 60 Hz
Power consumption 1,5 k
Electrical protection IP 55
Insulation class F to VDE 0730 / 0530
Separately mounted on/off switch including motor protection switch
and complete with 5 m cable and plug.
3.6 Cleaning Pistol

Hand-held pistol with 5 m high-pressure hose and with quick-action coupling for easy
interchange of cleaning lances. The cleaning lances are provided with a firmly secured
spray jet at the end, lances with different jets being available to produce a spray profile to
suit the particular application.

In its basic version the cleaning unit is supplied with a cleaning lance with a flat-profile
spray jet and another lance with a rotary spray jet.
a) The flat-profile spray jet is suitable for most general applications, particularly for the
internal and external cleaning of star-pleated elements, basket elements and ring-
type elements. In addition, the individual multi-mantle elements can be cleaned
externally with this jet.

b) The rotary jet is ideally suited to the cleaning of push-in and screw-in mesh candles,
particularly where stubborn contaminants are involved, e.g. with filters used for fule
oil and rolling oil.

Internal Cleaning of Multi mantle Elements

A special cleaning lance is available for the internal cleaning of multi-mantle elements.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Preparation of Cleaning Agent
(See drawing for Cleaning Unit Type 5.04)
Mix "BOLL CLEAN 2000" with water in the appropriate proportions either in a separate
container or directly in the soaking tank.
Mixing proportions for mesh cleaning: 1 part "BOLL CLEAN 2000" to 2,5 parts water
(See Chart for mixing quantities).
When the shut-off valve is opened the mixture flows into the spraying tank. This should now
be topped up to the max. level.
When the max. level is reached in the spraying tank (soaking tank is empty), close the
valve in the connecting pipe again. Then refill the soaking tank, if necessary, as described
above with new mixture (BOLL CLEAN 2000 in Water) .

Capacities:

Size 435/750 110 l 44 l BOLL CLEAN 2000

Check whether the valve on the inlet side of the pump protection filter is open. The hand
lever should be pointing downwards.
Switch on pump.
The pump draws in cleaning liquid from the spraying tank and fills the super-fine filter on
the pump delivery side. Loosen the vent screw on the cover of the super-fine filter. As soon
as liquid is released, switch off pump and tighten vent screw.

Whilst filling, note the level of liquid in the spraying tank!

This should not be allowed to drop below the level of the pump inlet connection. Equalise
the liquid levels in the soaking tank and spraying tank by opening the connection pipe.
If allowed to operate dry for any length of time the pump will be damaged!

4.2 Replacement of Pump Protection Filter Element

Switch off the pump, close the shut-off valve on the inlet side of the filter. Loosen the vent
screw on the filter cover and after releasing the cover screws remove the cover. Open the
drain on the filter base and allow approximately 1 litre of contaminated liquid to drain off into
a container; then close the drain screw.
Insert replacement element, open the shut-off valve in the inlet pipe again until liquid is
released from the vent; finally, close the vent.
The contaminated elements or other parts can then be cleaned in the cleaning unit 5.04.
After cleaning, the element can be re-used.

4.3 Replacement of Cartridge in Super-fine Filter

Switch off pump.
Depressurise the filter body by opening the vent screw in the cover. Release the cover
retaining screws and remove the cover complete with cartridges from the filter body.
Loosen the nut on underside of the elements and withdraw the cartridges from the guide
rod. Reassemble with new cartridges in the reverse sequence. Venting takes place
automatically when the pump is switched on and the hand pistol is operated. For the pistol
to function, a cleaning lance must be inserted in it since the quick-release coupling contains
an internal safety valve which opens only once a lance is inserted into the coupling.

4.4 Oil Change - High-pressure Pump

The oil should be changed after the first 50 operating hours and subsequently every
200 hours approximately.

Oil capacity: 0,2 l

Oil type: e. g. "Degol BG 68" or "EP" Gearbox Oil
4.5 Instructions for Use
The unit should be operated correctly as follows:
Soak the filter element(s) or inserts to be cleaned by immersing fully in the soaking tank
filled with a solution of "BOLL CLEAN 2000". The insert should only be immersed with ist
opening pointing upwards so that from the top no fluid can get into the insert. The design of
the unit is such that the fluid displaced by the immersion overflows into the spraying tank.
The duration of the soaking depends on the nature and degree of contamination of the
elements to be cleaned.
Please see the information sheet "Resistance List BOLL CLEAN 2000 - KV 349" .

Once the layer of contamination has been released, the element or insert should be placed
on the perforated base of the spraying tank with the open side pointing downwards. This
permits the released contaminants to drop down and out of the element. The level of the
liquid should be below the perforated base since its purpose is to reduce atomisation of the
cleaning liquid to a minimum during the spraying process. Surplus liquid is then removed by
pumping it via the hand pistol back to the soaking tank until the perforated base is clear of
the liquid.
The contaminated element is then cleaned from the outside towards the inside by washing
it all round with the hand pistol and cleaning lance. The liquid required for washing is itself
continuously cleaned via the super-fine filter and continuously recycled. Correct and careful
handling will ensure that the released contaminants are kept free of the clean side of the
element. After cleaning the elements should be placed (always with the opening pointing
downwards) in such a way as to enable them to drain off subsequent to which they can be
further dried with compressed air if required. Range of suitable jets see chapter 3.6

4.6 Cleaning of Elements contaminated with Heavy Oil

Elements contaminated with heavy oil must be cleaned as follows:
Soak the elements or inserts in a separate container in an appropriate commercial solvent.
After soaking, the elements should be cleaned as described above in the Type 5.04
Cleaning Unit using "BOLL CLEAN 2000" and the high-pressure pump.

9. Disposal
"BOLL CLEAN 2000" is biologically degradable. Impurities such as dissolved oils, dispersed
solids, etc, must, of course, be removed.

10. Service-Information
Problems arising in the cleaning of filter elements

- Damage to the mesh caused by being exposed to sharp corners or the use of hard
tools (e.g. wire brushes).

When the filter inserts are cleaned in an ultrasonic bath the following should be
taken into consideration:
- In the ultrasonic bath an insert should not be laid on top of another
- Inserts with a mesh of 10 µ (660/63) cannot be used. Even a short-term ultrasonic
bath damages the mesh
- With all other meshes a duration of 24 hours in the ultrasonic bath should not be
exceeded

The total time of all ultrasonic baths should not exceed 24 hours
as damages to the mesh are possible.

Advantages of Mobile Cleaning Unit 5.04

- Mechanical damage is prevented, since filter candle assemblies and multi-mantle
elements are cleaned in their assembled state.
- Penetration of contamination to the clean side is prevented by filtering the cleaning
liquid prior to it entering the filter element.
- The mesh is depth-cleaned by high-pressure liquid flowing from the clean side to
the contaminated side.
- Damage to the filter mesh is prevented since pump pressure and jets are matched
to the mesh.
- Uses a harmless, environmentally-friendly liquid kept clean by filtering through
paper cartridges filters.
- The unit permits gentle, simple yet thorough cleaning to be achieved without
causing any adverse environmental effects.

BOLL & KIRCH assumes no liability for any mistakes due to misuse of the product.
