Method Statement for Installation of
Cables and Wires
1.0 SCOPE
This method statement outlines the procedure for the installation of power cables and
associated accessories, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards,
and industry best practices.
2.0 MATERIALS
2.1 The materials required for the installation of cables and wires shall conform to the
approved material submittals and shop drawings.
2.2 Materials include:
- XLPE/SWA/PVC Cables
- PVC insulated SWA/PVC sheathed cables
2.3 All materials should be inspected upon delivery to ensure they meet project
requirements and are free from damage.
3.0 APPLICABLE LOCATION
3.1 The cables and wires will be installed in various locations as per the approved layout,
including areas like:
- Towers
- Podium
- Villas
3.2 The specific location and routing will be based on the approved drawings and project
specifications.
4.0 INSTALLATION METHODOLOGY
4.1 STORAGE
4.1.1 All materials received at the site must be inspected for damage and compliance with
approved material submittals.
4.1.2 Damaged or unsuitable materials will be removed from the site immediately.
4.1.3 Cables must be stored on a flat surface, and cable drums should be prevented from
rolling by using stoppers or other securing methods.
4.1.4 Cables must be protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and other potential sources
of damage.
4.2 INSTALLATION
4.2.1 Ensure the relevant, current approved shop drawings are available with the
installation team.
4.2.2 Handle the cable drums according to the manufacturer’s recommendations (use cable
jacks to raise drums above ground level).
4.2.3 Inspect the cable drum for damage and test the cable for continuity and insulation
resistance before installation.
4.2.4 Check the cable route to ensure it is clear from damage, sharp edges, or obstacles that
could harm the cable.
4.2.5 Unwind the cables from the drum and pull them manually to the installation point,
ensuring no undue stress is applied.
4.2.6 Leave enough cable length at both ends for proper termination.
4.2.7 After pulling the cable, inspect it for mechanical damage. If any major damage is found,
the cable should be replaced.
4.2.8 Dress the cables neatly with cable ties, ensuring that no cables overlap.
4.2.9 Provide proper identification for each cable according to the approved specifications.
4.2.10 Install the cables securely, avoiding any bending or twisting that could compromise
their integrity.
5.0 RECORDS
5.1 The following records must be maintained throughout the installation process:
- Inspection request duly signed off by NMX and Consultant
- Test reports
- As-built drawings
- Final documentation upon completion of the installation
