PHẦN I: VERBS TO EXPRESS PREFERENCE + GERUND (ĐỘNG TỪ DIỄN TẢ SỰ


YÊU THÍCH + DANH ĐỘNG TỪ)

1. Verbs of liking + V-ing Khi muốn dùng một động từ chỉ một hành động khác ở sau động
từ chỉ sự thích thú, ta phải sử dụng V-ing để nói về những điều bản thân thích, thích hơn,
hoặc không thích

LIKE I like skateboarding in my free time.


LOVE She loves training her dog.
HATE He hates eating out.
PREFER My mother prefers going jogging.
FANCY Do you fancy making crafts?
ENJOY We enjoy playing basketball.
ADORE They adore eating chicken.

2. Động từ V- ING được dùng trong các trường hợp:


2.1 Các thì Tiếp diễn bao gồm hiện tại tiếp diễn, quá khứ tiếp diễn… dựa trên quy tắc thêm
đuôi “ing” vào động từ (V-ing) để biểu thị hành động đang diễn ra hoặc kéo dài trong thời gian
xác định.
Eg: She is sleeping in her bedroom at present.
2.2 Thành lập danh động từ
Các động từ khi thêm đuôi “-ing” trở thành danh động từ, thường được sử dụng như 1 danh từ
trong câu.
Eg: Jog – jogging

2.3 Theo sau các động từ đặc biệt
Sau các động từ như LIKE, LOVE, HATE, PREFER, FANCY, ENJOY, ADORE, MIND
DON’T MIND, DISLIKE, DETEST, CAN’T STAND/CAN’T BEAR/CAN’T HELP
Eg: I enjoy learning English
2.4 Theo sau giới từ là V-ING; Bắt buộc theo sau giới từ phải thêm đuôi “ING”.
Eg: They are good at speaking English
He is interested in swimming.

3. Cách thêm đuôi "ING" vào sau động từ


3.1. Hầu hết các trường hợp, thêm đuôi “-ing” vào sau động từ một cách bình thường
learn => learning look => looking
work => working sing => singing
3.2. Động từ tận cùng bằng "e" , ta bỏ "e" rồi mới thêm "ing"
take => taking dance => dancing
make => making ride => riding
hope=> hoping.
3.3 Động từ tận cùng bằng "ee", chỉ việc thêm "ing"
see => seeing age => aging
agree => agreeing free => freeing
3.4. Động từ tận cùng bằng "ie", ta biến "ie" thành "y" rồi thêm "ing".
lie => lying tie => tying.
die => dying untie => untying.
Lưu ý: Nhưng động từ tận cùng bằng "y" vẫn giữ nguyên "y" khi thêm "ing".
carry => carrying study => studying
hurry => hurrying stay => staying
3.5. Quy tắc gấp đôi phụ âm cuối khi thêm "ing" : Với động từ 1 âm tiết, tận cùng bằng
“Nguyên âm + Phụ âm” (Trừ h, w, x, y), ta gấp đôi phụ âm và thêm "ing".
win => winning stop => stopping

Lưu ý: Với những động từ tận cùng bằng h, w, x, y thì ta giữ nguyên và thêm "ing" như bình
thường:
fix => fixing snow => snowing
mix => mixing play => playing
3.6. Với động từ 2 vần, trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết cuối, tận cùng bằng “nguyên âm + phụ âm”,
ta gấp đôi phụ âm và thêm "ing"
begin /bɪˈɡɪn/ => beginning incur /ɪnˈkɜːr/ => incurring.
transfer /trænsˈfɜːr/ => transferring occur /əˈkɜːr/ =>occurring.
Lưu ý: Khi động từ kết thúc bằng chữ “l”, người Mỹ thông thường không gấp đôi “l” ở cuối
trước khi thêm “ing”.
Ví dụ:
travel → Người Anh: travelling
cancel → Người Anh: cancelling
3.7. Với 3 động từ tận cùng là "C" , thông thường hay thêm chữ “K” ở cuối rồi mới thêm
"ing".

1. Cấu trúc thì hiện tại đơn:


- Khẳng định: Chủ ngữ số nhiều + động từ giữ nguyên
Chủ ngữ số ít + động từ thêm -s/es
- Phủ định: Chủ ngữ số nhiều + don’t + động từ giữ nguyên
Chủ ngữ số ít + doesn't + động từ giữ nguyên
- Câu hỏi: Do + Chủ ngữ số nhiều + động từ giữ nguyên
Does + Chủ ngữ số ít + động từ giữ nguyên

2. Cách sử dụng: Thì hiện tại đơn khi nói về tương lai
Eg:
Her birthday falls on a Friday next year. (a known fact about the future)
She has her driving test next week, does she? (a fixed arrangement)
I study English at Seastar Language Center on Fridays. (a timetable)
What time does their flight to Seoul leave? (a schedule)
2.1. Diễn tả sự việc hoặc hành động theo thời khóa biểu (a timetable) hoặc lịch trình cố định (a

3. Cấu trúc Be about to + V nói về tương lai


Be about to + V để diễn tả một sự việc sẽ diễn ra gần như ngay lập tức và đã được chuẩn bị
trước.
Eg:
Actually, we’re about to leave.
If you’re about to have dinner, I can phone again later.

4. Cấu trúc Be on the point/verge/brink of


Ta dùng cấu trúc be on the point/verge/brink of + V-ing/Noun để chỉ những đều mà ta mong
đợi/nghĩ xảy ra thật sớm. Be on the point of tương tự be just about to, mang nghĩa sắp sửa,
chuẩn bị.
Eg:
I was on the point of leaving my job but then I got promoted so I changed my mind.
People are on the verge of starvation as the drought continues.

5. Quy tắc về cách thêm s/es trong thì hiện tại đơn
5.1 Khi động từ đó kết thúc bằng Kết thúc bằng -o, -s, -z, -ch, -x, -sh, -ss hoặc -zz thì chúng ta
thêm -es.

5.2 Khi động từ kết thúc bằng: Phụ âm + -y thì chúng ta đổi -y thành -ies.

6.1 Quy tắc 1: Phát âm là /s/ với từ kết thúc bằng /t/, /p/, /k/, /f/, /θ/ (tiền /t/ pay /p/ khắp /k/
đường/ θ / phố /p/). đây là những âm VÔ THANH- VOICELESS SOUNDS (khi phát âm
không làm rung thanh quản), thường là phiên âm từ các ký tự đuôi là các chữ cái -t, -p, -k, -f
và -th

1. Một số từ sau đây không đi kèm với giới từ: tomorrow, yesterday, today, now, right now,
every, last, next, this, that.

2. Những từ loại theo sau giới từ có thể là: đại từ, cụm danh từ hoặc V-ing.
+Ví dụ: She is sitting in the room.
I don’t have any interest in learning Chinese.

3. Có một ngoại lệ là at night (vào ban đêm). So sánh những câu này.
+ I heard a noise in the night. (lúc nửa đêm = in the middle of the night)
