Process writing or Process explanation writing:

The piece of writing that explains the process or method of how


something happens or how to make something is a process writing or
process explanation writing.
Linkers/connectors/transitional words, phrases
A. Firstly, Secondly, thirdly……………………….finally………

B. In the first step, in the second step, in the third step………..in the
final step…

C. Initially/ in the beginning, then, next, until, afterward, after that,


later, before, when, while, as soon as, as, upon, during,
meanwhile, subsequently, eventually/Finally/ at last etc.

Kinds of process writing:


i. Directional or, Instructional process writing
ii. Informational process writing
Process writing is very useful for engineering and technical students as
well as for engineering and technical professionals. In your lab, you
write lab reports which explain how you have done your experiments.
So, this is a process writing. If you write how to install a machine or a
computer, it will also be a process writing.
This kind of writing is directly related to your academic life as well as
your professional life.
For students, instructional or directional process writing is prohibited.
For academic purposes if a student writes any process writing, he/she
should write the informational one.
Personal pronouns, like, I, we, you etc. should not be used in a process
writing.
How to make a cup of Tea
(Directional or instructional writing)

You need a few steps for making a cup of tea. In the first step, you need some tea
leaves, water, milk, sugar, a clean pot, a filter, a cup, a tea-spoon etc. to do it. In
the second step, boil one cup and a half of water in the pot for five minutes. In
the third step, put about two tea-spoonful of tea leaves into the boiling water. In
the fourth step, pour this liquid into the cup through the filter. In the fifth step,
add one tea spoonful of sugar and a little milk with it. In the final step, you have
to stir it with the tea-spoon. Now, the tea is ready to serve.

How to make a cup of Tea


(Informational writing)

A few steps are required for making a cup of tea. In the first step, some tea
leaves, water, milk, sugar, a clean pot, a filter, a cup, a tea-spoon etc. are required
to do it. In the second step, one cup and a half of water is to be boiled in the pot
for five minutes. In the third step, about two tea-spoonful of tea leaves should be
put into the boiling water. In the fourth step, this liquid is to be poured into the
cup through the filter. In the fifth step, one tea spoonful of sugar and a little milk
should be added with it. In the final step, the mixture should be stirred it with the
tea-spoon. This is how the tea is ready to serve.
