Part A1
Kate is reading a playscript about healthy living. Read the playscript and
answer the questions.
Scene 1
Alan is in the clinic. He is sitting opposite to his doctor, Dr Wong. Dr Wong is studying
the report on the desk with a serious look on her face.
Dr Wong: (Putting down the report and her glasses on the desk) Alan, how often do
you have fast food? 5
Alan: I have fast food every week. I play football with my friends every Tuesday
and Thursday after school. We usually have tea at a fast food shop after that.
Dr Wong: I see. What about dinner? Do you often eat out with your family?
Alan: No, I don’t. Mum always cooks at home. She thinks her meals are better than
the food outside. 10
Dr Wong: That’s true. Alan, the report says you’re 38.5 kg. That means you’re
overweight …
Alan: Oh no! (Pinching his tummy) Should I go on a diet?
Dr Wong: No, you shouldn’t. It may not be the best thing to do. Instead, have a
balanced diet. You should have enough fruit and vegetables, and less fast 15
food. You can have some meat and seafood, but not too much. How do you
have your meal? Do you eat quickly?
Alan: Yes, I do. I’m always the first one to finish dinner at home, so I have more
time to play computer games and have some late-night snacks.
Dr Wong: You shouldn’t eat too fast. It may make you eat more food. You should also 20
eat fewer snacks, especially late at night. Do you have plenty of exercises at
the weekend?
Alan: I sometimes go roller skating and cycling in the countryside.
Dr Wong: That’s pretty good. We need to do exercises at least three times a week to
stay healthy. We also need to have enough … 25
Alan begins to doze off.
Dr Wong: Alan? Alan?
Alan: (Wakes up, feeling embarrassed) Sorry, Dr Wong.
Dr Wong: (Smiling) That’s all right. Now, take your report home. Make sure you have
enough rest! 30
Alan yawns, waves goodbye and exits.

Kate is reading a story about a strange dream. Read the story and answer the
questions.
Annie walked into a beautiful garden. There were many flowers and some
strange-looking trees. Annie picked up a blue flower on the ground and put
it in her bag carefully. She heard someone sobbing. It was a blue bird.
‘What happened, little blue bird?’ Annie asked.
‘The eagle that lives in the twisted tree over there took my little brother,’ the 5
blue bird said sadly, pointing to a tall tree beside Annie.
‘ ? , little blue bird. I can help you find your little brother,’ Annie
said confidently.
Annie let the blue bird stand on her shoulder. She stepped onto the twisted
knots of the tree and climbed to the top quickly. 10
‘Stay still. The eagle will be back soon,’ Annie whispered to the blue bird.
Soon after that, the eagle arrived at the garden.
‘Where are you, little blue bird? It’s your little brother. I’m back,’ the eagle
spoke softly.
‘No way! You cunning eagle,’ the blue bird shouted angrily. 15
Annie hopped onto the eagle’s back. The eagle was scared and flew away.
Annie was on her way to the eagle’s nest. It was windy and the sky was
very bright. All Annie could see was a white light …
Annie woke up and found herself in a park. She wondered what happened
just now. She reached her hand into her bag to find the blue flower. To her 20
surprise, the blue flower was there!

Over the past few days, I received some questions about food. Hope I can
answer them all here.
Snacks are not always unhealthy. For example, street food like
(1) _____________________________ is actually low in calories. What makes it
unhealthy is the sauce, like the popular curry sauce, and sweet and spicy
sauce.
We should stay away from (2) _____________________________ such as pizza
and chips. Mind you, (3) _____________________________ are no better than
chips because both of them are deep-fried in oil.
(4) _____________________________ is also not good for us. For example,
(5) _____________________________ has a lot of sugar and fat. People may
think that (6) ______________________________ is healthier because it has fruit
in it, but in fact it is high in sugar.
Many online articles say that people can be slimmer by avoiding rice,
(7) ______________________________. They are actually good food because
they give us energy. We should have (8) _______________________________ to
keep fit. We can follow the food pyramid to learn more about what to eat
more and what to eat less.
Feel free to leave comments below if you have other questions on food!
