1 Communication Drivers
In this manual you can find an USB- and a network installation guide for communication driver units. Please
follow the quick steps to install the USB- and network drivers.

2 USB Installation Guide


2.1 USB Driver installation for Windows 10, 11
The standard USB driver installation routine for Windows 10 and 11 applies for EDC’s produced in January 2023
or later. For EDC’s produced before this date please follow the instructions in chapter 2.5
2.1.1 Internet connection available
• Plug-In the EDC USB cable. If the PC has a working internet connection the drivers will be downloaded
and installed automatically. This process may take a while.
• After the drivers are installed correctly the EDC will be shown as a “USB Serial Port” device in the Device
Manager.

2.1.2 No internet connection available


• Execute the driver installation tool (CDM212364_Setup.exe ) from CommunicationDrivers\USB\WIN10_11
with administrator rights.

• Follow the instructions and click “Extract”

• Click “Next”

• Accept the agreement and click “Next”

• Click “Finish”, connect the USB cable from your EDC to the PC and wait until the installation of the USB
drivers is completed.

• After the drivers are installed correctly the EDC will be shown as a “USB Serial Port” device in the Device
Manager.

2.1.3 EDCs with old USB data


For EDCs with old USB data, stored in the EDC’s USB-Controller, there are to different options for the driver
installation depending on the security settings in Windows 10 or 11.
2.1.3.1 Core isolation “Memory integrity” Off
In case the “Memory integrity” is not used on your PC (Memory integrity is activated by default in Windows 11) you
can install the signed USB-Driver for Windows 8, 8.1 as described in chapter 2.2.

2.1.3.2 Core isolation “Memory integrity” On


In case you want to switch on the “Memory integrity” on your PC or it is already activated (Memory integrity is
activated by default in Windows 11), it is necessary to update the USB data which is stored in the EDC USB
controller. This is required to use new standard WHQL Certified FTDI driver which is compatible with this Windows
safety feature.
To update the EDC USB data please follow the instructions in chapter 2.5.

• Connect the USB cable from your PC with the EDC and wait until the installation of the USB drivers is
completed. Then check if the EDC shows up in the device manager.

• Uninstall any previously installed FTDI drivers with the uninstall tool from
CommunicationDrivers\USB\CDMUninstallerGUI (refer to chapter 1.1.3)
• Disable automatic driver installation:
Click Start, type Devices and Printers in the search box, and then click Devices and Printers.

• Under Devices, right-click the icon for the computer, and then click Device installation settings.

• Click to select No, let me choose what to do,


select Never install driver software from Windows update, and then click Save Changes

• Connect the USB cable from your PC with the EDC.


• To open the Device Manager click Start, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
Then right click on the DOLI EDC icon and select Update Driver Software…

• Browse the computer for driver software and press Next

• Make shure to select the WIN7 directory

• After successfully installing the driver, the EDC appears in Universal Serial Bus Controllers section in
the Device Manager

Uninstalling USB Drivers

2.4 Uninstalling USB Drivers


In the CommunicationDrivers USB directory (CommunicationDrivers\USB\Tools\CMDUninstallerGUI) we provide
the CMDUninstallerGUI.exe tool.
• Run the EXE and clear the Product ID field. Then press the Add Button:

• Press the Remove Devices Button. After removing the driver the uninstaller will report success:

• For more details refer to the readme.html file in the CMDUninstallerGUI directory.

Note: Under Windows 7 and above you should run the uninstaller with administrator rights.

Note: Never install USB drivers of different versions on the same machine. This would lead to unpredictable
results.

Update EDC USB data

2.5 Update EDC USB data

Note: This step is only necessary for EDCs with old EDC USB data (delivered before January 2023) used with
new standard WHQL Certified FTDI driver.

To update the EDC USB data the software tool “EdcUsbTool“, which is included in the driver package, can be
used. This program is a portable version and doesn’t need to be installed. Nevertheless, it is necessary to install
the signed Windows 8, 8.1 USB driver according to chapter 2.2. and to deactivate the “Memory integrity” in the
Windows security settings. After successful installation of the driver please follow the steps below.
• Connect all EDCs to be updated via USB to the PC
• Make sure the EDCs show up as “DOLI EDC” in the Device Manager.

• Start the program EdcUsbTool.exe (CommunicationDrivers\USB\Tools\EdcUsbTool)

Update EDC USB data

• Click the button “Scan USB EDC”. Then all EDCs connected via USB will show up in the list. EDCs with the
old PID-number (EF63) will show up as “Old EDC USB Data” and EDCs with new PID-number will show up
as “New EDC USB Data”.

• Check the EDCs you want to update and click the button “Update Old EDC USB Data”.
Only Old EDC USB Data can be updated.

• Confirm the window with “Yes”. The updated USB Data will be downloaded to the EDC USB-controller.
Afterwards the EDCs will show up as “New EDC USB Data”

• After updating the EDC USB data, the USB cable of the EDCs must be unplugged and the old driver has to
be uninstalled as described in chapter 2.4
• Now the EDC can be handled as a EDC with new USB data. And the standard USB driver installation
procedure as described in chapter 2.1 can be applied.

2.6 USB driver check with DoliInstallationCenter


In the next step you can test the installation with DoliInstallationCenter.

Note: Make sure that the USB cable is connected from the EDC to the PC and the EDC is in PC-CONTROL
mode

• Start the DOLI Installation Center and press “Scan USB/LAN”. The EDC should be listed in the dialog

• The USB driver has been installed successfully.

3.1 LAN driver installation for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11
Note: Please make sure that your computer has installed a dedicated network card which can be used
exclusively for communication with DOLI devices.
• Uninstall any previously installed versions of WinPcap from
Start → Apps and Features
• Start your PC and right click on the network icon in the system tray.
Select “Open Network and Sharing Center“.

The “Network and Sharing Center“ window opens.

Right click on the network connection and select “Properties”.

• Remove all check marks in this dialog and confirm with OK.

Install the WinPcap driver as follows:


• Locate the driver in your installation path (e.g. C:\Programm Files\Doli\CommunicationDrivers\LAN)
• Doubleclick on the driver file: WinPcap_4_1_3.exe. The WinPcap 4.1.3 Installer starts to install.
• Press Next to prompt the Welcome window.

• Press the I Agree button to accept the agreement terms.

• Select the ‘Automatically start the WinPcap driver at boot time’. This installs WinPcap for all users.

• Press Finish to complete the installation

• Restart your computer.

Use a Crossover LAN cable. Normal patch cables may not work with older Network Interface
Cards for point to point PC / EDC connections.

In the next step you can test the installation with DoliInstallationCenter.

Note: Make sure that the network cable is connected from the EDC to the PC and the EDC is in PC-CONTROL
mode

• Start the DOLI Installation Center and press “Scan USB/LAN”. The EDC should be listed in the dialog.

• The LAN driver has been installed successfully.
