BE GOING TO
USES:
● Expresses future intentions such as plans and decisions that are made
before the moment of speaking → It’s a plan that you think about before you
make the action.
● When you can see that something is certain to happen → opinions about the
future - based in facts
STRUCTURES:
● BE GOING TO: It’s a future form where the verb BE is used as an auxiliary
verb, GOING TO expresses the future of my action and another BASE FORM
VERB is used to show the action.
■ BE (am/is/are) + GOING TO + BASE FORM VERB
(+): Subject + Aux (am/is/are) + GOING TO + Base Form Verb + Complement
❖ I’m going to study abroad in 2030.
❖ Paul is going to move to Canada with his family next year
❖ It’s going to rain → I can see the weather
❖ The companies are going to return to presential work soon.

We don’t usually use → GOING TO GO or GOING TO COME
○ Going to + place → going to the beach, going to the US
○ I’m coming from + place (present continuous)

WILL
MODAL VERB |modifies the structure or intention of the verb| → It indicates an action in the
future. It “transforms” the verb into a future verb. The structure is simple: WILL +
Base Form Verb
USES:
● To express an intention at the moment of speaking → the decision is made at the
same moment the conversation is happening.
● To talk about uncertain plans/situations → expressions such as “maybe, perhaps”
can be used.
● To offer spontaneous help → You just do the action
● Opinions based in guesses → From your mind
STRUCTURES:

USE:
● Arranged plans for the future → upcoming future: the situation is all
planned, everything is set up (organized) and the time is coming closer
*things you might need to organize:*

○ hour ○ etc
❖ My sister is having a baby next month.
➢ the sister is pregnant and in a few months the baby will be born
❖ I’m getting married next year.
➢ date is chosen, party is being organized, etc.

USE:
● Used to talk about TIMETABLE → appointments or situations that have the
same schedule or agenda for everybody involved.
