Universal Yarn Uptown Worsted (100%
anti-pilling acrylic; 100g/180 yds)
 312 Race Car Red (MC) – 1 ball
 302 White Glow (CC1) – 1 ball
 324 Black (CC2) – 1 ball
 335 Acorn (CC3) – 1 ball
Needles: US Size 7 (4.5 mm) or size
needed to obtain gauge
Notions: US Size H-8 (5 mm) crochet
hook (for fringe), yarn needle, polyester
fiberfill, red crayon (for cheeks), a small
hairbrush, 4” strip of cardboard (for
pompom)

Legs (Make 2) Ears (Make 2)
With CC2, cast on 24 sts. With CC3, cast on 6 sts.
Rows 1-3: Knit. Row 1 (RS): K2, k2tog, k2 – 5 sts rem.
Row 4 (and all WS rows): Purl. Row 2: K1, k3tog, k1 – 3 sts. Bind off all sts.
Rows 5-8: Work even in St st.
Row 9: K5, [k2tog] 3 times, k2, [k2tog] 3 times, k5 Beard
– 18 sts rem. With CC1, cast on 26 sts.
Rows 10-12: Work even in St st. Break yarn, Row 1: Knit. Bind off all sts. Cut 104 – 9” lengths of
leaving a 10” tail for seaming. CC1. Insert hook into first cast on st, place 2 lengths
Row 13: Join MC and knit. over hook, pull loop through and thread ends through
Rows 14-22: Work even in St st. Break yarn, loop to create fringe. Repeat for each st along cast on
leaving a 10” tail for seaming, and slide sts to end and bound off row. With a small hairbrush, brush

Hat rem sts, pull tightly, and sew arm seam, stuffing
With MC, cast on 32 sts. before closing. Sew arms to body, below collar.
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2 (and all WS rows): Purl. Arm Cuff (Make 2)
Rows 3-4: Work even in St st. With CC1, cast on 17 sts. Knit 2 rows. Bind off and sew
Row 5: * K6, k2tog; rep from * to end – 28 sts rem. cuffs in place, approx 1” from end of arm.
Row 7: * K5, k2tog; rep from * to end – 24 sts rem. Pompom
Row 9: * K4, k2tog; rep from * to end – 20 sts rem. With CC1, wrap yarn around strip of cardboard 40
Row 11: * K3, k2tog; rep from * to end – 16 sts times. Trim and attach to top of hat.
