I’m a Married Man
1- What was Dora’s aunt’s reply to David request to visit Dora? How did he feel?
They allowed David to visit Dora. He was happy and had the best time in his life, he visited
Dora regularly, they walked, talked and laughed together. Dora sang and played the guitar.
2- Why didn’t anyone suspect David’s marriage of Dora for money?
Bec. Mr. Spenlow wasn’t rich when he died and there were many debts to pay so Dora
didn’t inherit much money.
3- What jobs did David do after Mr. Spenlow death?
He worked as a secretary for Dr. Strong. He reported what was said in Parliament for the
daily newspaper and wrote stories which were published in magazines, David was pleased
with money he earned.
4- What did David do when he was 21ST?
He got married to Dora and moved to a little house. Mrs. Betsy and Mr. Dick also moved
to a near little flat to David’s house.
5- What was Dora’s opinion in Agnes when they met the day before the wedding?
They talked together, Dora whispered her secrets into Agnes’s ears like a chilled. She liked
Agnes a lot and told David that if she had Agnes as friend when she was younger, she
wouldn’t be silly and foolish.
6- Why wasn’t married life as comfortable as David thought?
Because, both of David and Dora had no experience in managing the servants and spent
the money. They had a servant who served their food late, drank their wine and finally
stole all their silver spoons when she left.
7- Why was David cross (angry) with Dora?
His married life was very difficult and wasn’t he was expected, he had no supper because
the beef was burnt and when Traddles came to dinner the meat wasn’t cooked at all, he
spoke to Dora about these things she told him that he didn’t love her.
8- Why did David feel sorry to marry Dora? How wasn’t Dora a good wife?
Dora was childish and never took her responsibilities. She didn’t manage servants or
money well. David didn’t have a real partner in life to share problems and worries.
9- What was the first real success in David’s life?
It was his first book, it was a great success after it was published and Dora and his aunt
were so proud of David.
10- Why was David worry about Dora? How was Dora’s health?
She was very ill and didn’t get better. She wasn’t strong and couldn’t walk by herself. So,
David carried her downstairs and upstairs every day, morning, and night, he began to fear
that she wouldn’t be with him much longer.
11- Why did Daniel Peggotty visit David?
He wanted to tell him that he had found Emily on a bridge in London looking at the river.
He found her after she returned from Italy, Steerforth lived with her for a while there and
then he left her alone after he got tired of her, she didn’t know what to do or where to go,
but she finally returned back to London.

12- How was Emily when Daniel found her?
She was lonely, helpless, and exhausted. She was looking down into the river. She was
about to do something wrong to herself when Daniel stopped her.
13- Where did Daniel plan to go and why?
He planned to travel to Australia with Emily to start a new life there as a father and his
daughter. Australia was a new country and no-one knew anything about Emily’s past
there.
14- Why didn’t Ham and Peggotty travelled with Daniel and Emily to Australia?
Ham stayed in Yarmouth as he had a good job and he was very popular there while
Peggotty stayed to look after Ham and David.
