This document presents the Basis of Design (BOD) for Civil and Structural required for the
MSSD Shops Expansion Project under BI 10-20647.

This BOD shall be used to specify the design requirements for the project at Preliminary
and Detailed Engineering Design. It is to be considered as an approved source of input
data for the civil and structural engineering team fully aligned with the latest mandatory
Saudi Aramco Engineering Standard requirements, as indicated on this document on

DESCRIPTION

Note: This document is intended to define the design criteria for civil and structural
elements. Detailed project specific scope will be covered as part of Scope of Work (SOW)
document.

2. PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVE

Proposed Mechanical Services Shops Department (MSSD) will be two (2) state of art
complex facilities which will support Company's crude oil and gas production by expanding
the MSSD coverage at Eastern and Western regions in Saudi Arabia, to meet ongoing

operational demand. This capital project will provide construction, furnishing and equipping
shops buildings, support facilities and office buildings to accommodate MSSD personnel.
The scope will include specialized spare parts manufacturing and repair shops of industrial

Metric units for length, surface, volume and mass, known as “International System

The precedence in applying for use of the Codes, Standards, Specifications and
Regulatory requirements for this project is as specified in the commercial
/contractual documents.

In the event of an inconsistency, conflict or discrepancy between any of the Codes,


Standards, Specifications and Regulatory, the most stringent and safest
requirement applicable to the project will prevail to the extent of the inconsistency,

DESCRIPTION

To address the aspects of crack control and hot weather concreting, under no
circumstance shall the maximum bar spacing be greater than 200 mm. In
general, for a required area of reinforcement, smaller diameter bars at a lesser
spacing are preferable rather than large diameter bars at a greater spacing.
