Week 3 (3 March to 7 March 2025)
What did I learn this week regarding Teaching?
This week, I learned two valuable lessons about teaching. Firstly, I gained insights on improving classroom
management, which I believe will help me create a more focused and productive learning environment.
Secondly, and more importantly, I learned that as a teacher, I don't always have to be right. A significant
incident occurred where my mentor teacher wrongly punished a learner without hearing their side of the
story. After listening to the learner’s explanation, it became clear that they were not at fault. This
experience taught me the importance of listening to my learners and giving them a chance to share their
perspective.
How could I improve my Lesson Planning?
One area I'd like to improve in my lesson planning is incorporating more hands-on activities and reducing
written tasks to create a more exciting lesson.
What worked well during my Lessons?
What worked well during my lessons was the introduction. I used engaging tools like puppets and YouTube
clips to capture the learners' attention from the start. This approach sparked their curiosity and interest,
making them eager to learn and participate in the lesson.
What could have worked better during my Lessons?
One area that could have worked better is my classroom management skills. I struggled to maintain the
attention and engagement of learners seated at the back of the class, and had difficulty getting them to
remain quiet and on-task during lessons.
What challenges did I experience during my Lesson Preparation and Lesson Presentation?
During lesson preparation, I faced challenges while planning a life skills lesson on healthy habits. Specifically,
I struggled to design an engaging activity that would help learners grasp the concept. Upon reflection, I
realize that I could have expanded the lesson to cover a broader range of healthy habits, rather than
focusing solely on personal hygiene practices like brushing teeth, bathing, and blowing one's nose. By doing
so, I could have provided learners with a more comprehensive understanding of healthy living.
What do I need to do to improve my Lessons?

To improve my lessons, I’ve identified classroom management as a major area of concern. It’s been a
consistent challenge, but I’m committed to learning and growth. I’ve noticed some progress with each
passing day. One strategy I’ve implemented is using positive reinforcement, such as stickers and verbal
praise, to encourage learner engagement and behavior. While this approach has shown promise, I
acknowledge that there’s still room for improvement.
What did I enjoy about my School Experience during this week?
This week, I thoroughly enjoyed the school assembly hosted by B&B, a bread company. They organized a
fun competition where classes collected B&B bread plastic bags, and the class with the most bags won. The
assembly was engaging, interactive, and entertaining, featuring life-size puppets that captivated the
learners. As a teacher, witnessing the learners’ enthusiasm and investment was inspiring. This experience
motivated me to incorporate puppets into my lessons, as I saw firsthand the power of interactive and
engaging teaching methods.
What challenges did I experience at school during this week?
This week, my mentor teacher was scheduled to have an assessment with the principal. As a result, I had to
take on additional responsibilities, spending most of my time teaching the learners, managing the
classroom, and handling marking and daily preparations.
