CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Theoretical Foundation.
Hooke’s Law is a fundamental principle in physics that describes the linear
relationship between the force applied to a spring and its extension. This law, formulated
by Robert Hooke in the 17th century, states that the force required to stretch or compress
a spring is directly proportional to the displacement of the spring, as long as the elastic
limit is not exceeded.
1.2 Objective of the Report
To verify Hooke’s Law by conducting an experiment on a spring under various
applied forces.
To determine the proportionality constant (spring constant) for a given spring.
To understand practical applications of Hooke’s Law.
1.3 Report Benefits
Enhances understanding of fundamental physics principles related to elasticity.
Develops practical skills in conducting physics experiments and data analysis.
Provides insights into material properties and their mechanical behavior.
CHAPTER II
EXPLANATION
3
2.1 Hooke’s Law Explanation
Hooke’s Law is a fundamental principle in physics that explains the relationship
between the force applied to an elastic object (such as a spring) and its deformation
(stretching or compressing). It was discovered by Robert Hooke in the 17th century and is
mathematically expressed as:
F=kΔx
F = Force applied (in Newtons, N)
k = Spring constant (in Newtons per meter, N/m)
Δx = Displacement or extension of the object (m)
2.2 Practical Explanation
2.2.1 Tools and Materials
1. Statif set
2. Spiral springs
3. Load (weight)
4. Ruler
2.2.2 Experimental Procedure
1. Assemble the stand properly.
2. Measure the initial length of the spring.
3. Hang the spring on the stand.
4. Apply a load to the spring.
5. Measure the length of the spring after the load is applied.
6. Substitute the values into the formula to find the spring constant.

2.2.4 Practic Summary
The greater the force applied, the larger the spring constant becomes. The constant k
represents the stiffness of the spring, which indicates how much the spring will stretch or
4
compress when a force is applied. The value of k is determined by the material of the spring
and how its atomic structure responds to the applied force. A spring with a large k value will
be more difficult to stretch or compress.

CHAPTER III
CLOSING
3.1 Conclusion
The experiment validated Hooke's Law, showing that the force applied to a spring is
proportional to its extension, within the elastic limit. The value of kkk determined for the
spring was consistent with the material's properties, indicating the stiffness of the spring. The
results demonstrated the importance of Hooke's Law in understanding the behavior of elastic
materials.
