St. Xavier's College, established in 16th of January, in the year 1860, is one of the oldest and most prestigious
educational institutions in India. It is a premier Jesuit institution that has produced many eminent personalities over the
years. The Canteen, however has been a staple of student life for over a century. Today, we take you on a journey to
explore the history and significance of the College Canteen at St. Xavier's College, Kolkata.

Good Morning, sir. I am Ishan Palit, an Interviewer for the College Magazine. Can you please introduce yourself and tell
us your association with St. Xavier's College?
MAN
Sure. My name is Sayan Datta, and I am a former student of St. Xavier's College. I graduated in the year 2006, and I
have been associated with the college in different capacities ever since.

CUE SOUND: We hear the sound of a pen scratching on paper as the interviewer takes notes.
ISHAN
Thank you, Sayan. Can you share your memories of the canteen at St. Xavier's College?
SAYAN
Sure. The canteen was always a buzzing place. It was the hub of all social activities on the campus. I remember
spending long hours there, discussing everything from politics to sports with my friends. The food was always delicious,
and the prices were very reasonable.
ISHAN
That sounds great. Can you tell us more about the history of the canteen?
SAYAN
The canteen has been around for a very long time. It was started by the Jesuits to provide affordable and hygienic food
to the students. Over the years, it has become an integral part of the college culture. It has witnessed many historic
events, from heated political debates to romantic proposals.
ISHAN
That's interesting. Can you share any particular memory, that you have of the canteen?

Well, I remember during my time at St. Xavier's College, the canteen was always crowded. There was always a long line,
and we had to wait for our turn to get our food. But it was worth it. The food was always fresh, and the atmosphere was
lively.

Good afternoon, ma'am. Can you please introduce yourself and tell us your association with St. Xavier's College?
WOMAN
Sure. My name is Aditi Sinha, and I am currently, a faculty member at St. Xavier 's College. I have been teaching here
for the past ten years.
ISHAN
Thank you, Aditi. Can you share your experiences with the canteen at St. Xavier's College?
ADITI
Of course. The canteen is a lively and vibrant place. As a faculty member, I often have my lunch there, and it's a great
opportunity to connect with students outside the classroom. The canteen is a melting pot of different cultures and
backgrounds, and it's a great place to learn and exchange ideas.
ISHAN
That's wonderful to hear. Can you tell us more about the menu and the food options available in the canteen?

We see food in microwave and plastic cups being filled with coffee or cold drinks. We also focus on the hands of the
students collecting their foods.

quality of the food and the sound of food sizzling in the microwave making a buzzing and popping noise indicating the
food is prepared. We can also hear the dripping sounds of the coffee and cold drink machines.

ADITI (V.O.)
The canteen offers a wide range of food options, from traditional Indian dishes to a varied range of Snacks and Fast
foods. They also have special menus for the faculty with dietary restrictions. The food is always fresh and tasty, and the
prices are very much affordable.

ISHAN
That's great to know. Can you share any particular memory that you have of the Canteen?

CUE SOUND: We hear the sound of a guitar being played, and students singing along, in chorus and clapping, in rhythm
as they performed the song.
We can see their faces full of energy.

I remember during my early days at St. Xavier's College, I was having lunch at the canteen, and a group of students
started singing and playing the guitar. Before I knew it, the whole canteen was singing and dancing. It was such a
beautiful moment, and it just goes to show the kind of community spirit that the College fosters.

Good afternoon, can you please introduce yourself and tell us your experience with the canteen at St. Xavier's College?
STUDENT
Hi, I am Aryan Gupta, and I am a first-year, Multimedia student at St. Xavier's College. Well, The Canteen has been a
great place for me to connect with my batchmates and seniors.
ISHAN
That's great to hear. Can you tell us more about the atmosphere in the canteen?
ARYAN
The atmosphere in the canteen is always lively and energetic. There's always something happening here, from
impromptu jam sessions to heated debates on various topics. It's a great place to meet new people and learn new
things.
ISHAN
That sounds wonderful. Can you share any distinct memory that you have of the canteen?

I remember during my first week at St. Xavier's College; I was feeling a bit homesick. I came to the canteen for lunch,
and a senior struck up a conversation with me. She made me feel so welcome, and we ended up chatting for hours. It
was such a lovely experience, and it made me feel like I belonged here.
