Examine the importance of educational administration and management in the training
of secondary school teachers
Educational management is the process of planning, organizing, coordinating and controlling
the activities and resources of an educational institutional to achieve its goals and objectives.
It involves strategic decision making, curriculum development, staff management, financial
planning, and student support services. Educational administration involves the management
and organization of educational systems, institutions and programs. It encompasses a range of
responsibilities such as planning, implementing and evaluating educational policies,
overseeing curriculum development, managing budgets and resources, hiring and supervising
staff and ensure compliance with laws and regulations. The importance of educational
administration and management in the training of secondary school teachers cannot be
overstated. This field is crucial in equipping teachers with the necessary skills to effectively
run a classroom, manage students and create conducive learning environment. Moreover, it
helps teachers improve their teaching and adapt to changing education trends.
One of the main reasons why educational administration and management are important in
teacher training is that it provides teachers with the tools and knowledge to effectively
manage the classroom. Classroom management is the foundation of a successful learning
environment. Teachers need to learn how to create a positive classroom culture, establish
routines, set expectations and manage student behaviour. Without this skills teachers may
struggle to maintain discipline and create an environment conducive to learning.
Furthermore, educational administration and management help teachers to develop their
teaching methods and instructional strategies. Though training, teachers lean about different
teaching techniques, assessment methods and curriculum design. They also gain a deep
understanding of educational theories and their applications in the classroom. This knowledge
enables teachers to plan lessons that cater to the diverse needs and learning styles of the
students. Effective instructional strategies can greatly enhance students understanding and
retention of information.
In addition, educational administration and management play a crucial role in preparing
teachers to adopt to the changing landscape of education. The field of education is constantly
evolving due to technological advancement, update research and new pedagogical
approaches. By training teachers in administration and management, they are equipped with
the skills to embrace these changes and integrate them into their teaching practice. This helps
teachers to stay current and relevant in their field, ensuring that they are providing the best
possible education to their students.
Another important aspect of educational administration and management in teacher training
is the focus on leadership skills. Teachers are not just educators, they are also leaders within
their classrooms and schools. Through training in this field, teachers learn how to effectively
lead and collaborate with their colleagues, parents and their stakeholders. They develop skills
and communication, decision making, problem solving and team building. These leadership
skills are essential for creating a positive school culture, fostering collaborative learning
community and ensuring the smooth running of educational institutions
Educational administrators and managers play a key role in developing and implementing the
national curriculum. In Zimbabwe, the MoPSE introduced the Zimbabwe Curriculum
Framework (ZCF) in 2017 to ensure that students receive a balanced education that includes
practical skills. Administrators ensure that teachers are equipped to deliver this curriculum.it
also helps administrators in providing teachers with professional development opportunities,
such as in-service training, mentoring, and peer learning, to enhance their skills and
knowledge.
Administrators are responsible for managing resources, such as textbooks, laboratories, and
classroom space, which support effective teaching and learning. In Zimbabwe, schools face
resource constraints, and administrators must find innovative ways to provide teachers with
the resources they need. Educational administrators monitor and evaluate teacher
performance, providing feedback and support for continuous improvement. The ZIMSEC
conducts assessments to evaluate both student and teacher performance, which helps
administrators identify areas for improvement.

importance of their contribution to teacher training and development. Administrators
facilitate effective communication among teachers, parents, students, and community
members. In Zimbabwe, SDCs serve as key communication channels, enabling
