1 Quranic Passages p1 Question 1 Compulsory

Allah In Himself

Surah Al Baqarah 2; 255

Allah. There is no god but He, the living, the self-subsisting, eternal. No slumber can seize Him
nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His
presence except as He permits? He knows what is before or after or behind them. Nor shall
they compass any of His knowledge except as He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens
and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most
High, the Supreme.

 Ayat ul Kursi
a) Main them (s)
 This verse of surah Al Baqarah is known as Ayat ul Kursi
 Its main theme revolves around the oneness authority and absolute knowledge of
Allah
 The entire universe functions according to His commands
 It tells us that He is there from the beginning and will remain forever
 He does not depend upon any other being
 Therefore, He alone is worthy of worship and He alone has the control and
possession of all the physical and spiritual things in the universe
 He can do whatever He wants and no one can question Him about it .
 Due to His unique attributes , everything of earth of earth and Heavens belong to Him
 Quran says , “Blessed be He in whose hands dominion and He has power over all
things “
 He is aware of the hidden and manifest , past , present and future

b) Importance in daily life


 It develops sense of unity of Allah
 He is our creator and Sustainer
 We must adore Him
 We need to develop our trust in Allah and set our expectation only for Him
 He can fulfill our needs
 Avoid to commit any sin by concealing and revealing
 It very much important , it should be recited before sleeping and before going on
journey for the protection from the evil and mishaps .
 The Holy prophet (saw) declared this verse as the best passage of Quran .
 The Holy Prophet (saw) said , “Whoever recites Ayaat tul Kursi immediately after
each Farz (Obligatory) Prayer nothing can detain him to enter Paradise except
death”

2 SUrah Al Anaam (The Cattle) 6. 101 – 103

101. To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: how can He have a son
when He has no consort? He created all things, and He has full knowledge of all things. 102.
That is Allah, your Lord! there is no god but He, the Creator of all things: then worship Him:
and He has power to dispose of all affairs. 103. No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over
all vision: He is above all comprehension, yet is acquainted with all things.

a) Main theme (s)


 The main theme of this passage is Allah in Himself
 His knowledge , Unity and Authority over the entire universe
 Therefore, He alone is to be worshipped
 These verses also talk about the fact that Allah can never have any progeny
as he does not have any wife
 Allah says in Quran surah Ikhlas “say ; He is Allah ,the One and Only .Allah , the
Eternal , Absolute . He does not beget , nor begotten. And There is none like
Him.”
 It is further said that He is able to comprehend everything about the universe
nothing remains hidden from Him
 These verses also say that Allah created everything without the help and co-
ordination of any external source .

b) Importance in daily life


 We should always thank Allah and bow only before Him as He created us and all
worlds
 It makes us realize that Allah is free from all physical relations
 He is the originator and fashioner of this universe therefore we must not associate
any son , daughter or wife .
 The Quran refers to it Surah al Ikhlas , that He does not give nor was given birth by
any one
 These verses are very important in our lives as they give us the sense of realization
to fear and feel ashamed before and after committing bad deeds , he has full
knowledge of everything
 As we Muslims come to know that our knowledge is limited to perceive Him
 He is everywhere and all powerful “ and He is with you wherever you …”

3 Surah al Fussilat 41 : 37Main Theme (s)

37. Among His signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Adore not
the sun and the moon, but adore Allah, who created them, if it is Him you wish to
serve”.

 The theme of Surah Al Fussilat is Allah Himself


 These verses speak of the sun and moon and day and night as the signs of Allah to
signify His wisdom and power
 Allah is All powerful , the Creator of everything include sun and moon ,the night and
day , which also demonstrate that Allah is sole creator and source of all that exists
 Quran says , “Behold ! In the creation of the heavens and the earth and the
alternation of Night and Day -- there are indeed signs for men of understanding”
3: 190)
 All lifeless objects and the living creations have been created by Allah , so they are not
objects to be worshipped
 It is illogical and foolish to hold the sun and moon worthy of to worship
 Same belief is mentioned in Surah Al Anaam , in which the incident of Ibrahim (as) is
mentioned that he did not worship the planets while the whole society was idol
worshipping
 Therefore, only Allah is liable to be worshipped alone , who is the Creator of living and
non –living things

a) Importance in daily life


 Theses verses are important for the Muslims to strengthen their faith in the unity
of Allah
 This passage highlights the fact that the sun and moon are the created for the benefit
of mankind and night is created for the rest of the people and the day for earning
essential of daily life
 Allah is the creator of everything therefore, He alone should be worshipped .
 We should not hold His creations equal to Him in any way as it is a great and
unforgivable sin
 The human are the best creation of Allah , therefore, we should not degrade
ourselves by worshipping the creations just like us or inferior to us .
 We get a clear message from this verse not to bow down before sun , moon stars and
other objects like idols

4 Surah Ash Shura 42 : 4-5

4. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: and He is most high, most
great. 5. The heavens are almost rent asunder from above them, and the angels
celebrate the praises of their Lord, and pray for forgiveness for beings on earth:
Behold! Verily Allah is He, the oft-forgiving, the most merciful.

a) Main Theme (s)

 The theme of these verses is Allah Himself


 These verses glorify the attributes of Allah
 All things belong to Him , whatever in the heavens and earth Quran says , “ Ask them ,
to whom belong s all that is in the heavens and on the earth ? say , To Allah “ ( 6
:12)
 Quran says , “To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever in the earth”
 He has control over all the things
 The innocent angels always glorify Allah
 They implore Allah for His mercy again and again for the dwellers of the earth
 This passage highlights Allah’s total authority and ownership , His majesty and His
mercy

b) Importance in daily life


 Muslims learn from this passage to repent ask Allah for His Forgiveness , since He is
the Controller and the owner of the world .
 We should not only worship to Him but also ask Him for everything instead of begging
from someone else .
 One of the articles of faith is highlighting here about the existence of Angels and
their duties
 As the angles pray to Allah for our forgiveness
 We need also pray for others and excuse their mistakes
 We need to repent our sins as Allah is Merciful and kindness

5 Surah al Ikhlas 112

1. Say: He is Allah, the one and only; 2. Allah, the eternal, absolute; 3. He does not beget, nor is
He begotten; 4. And there is none like Him.

a) Main Theme (s)


 The theme of this surah is Allah in Himself
 This surah was revealed as a reply to the questions of the non Muslims about the
nature of Allah that if He has created us than who created Him ,
 These verses clearly signify the Oneness of Allah in His person , attributes , and in
commandments
 At numerous places in the holy Quran , the concept of Taheed is elaborated such as
Ayat ul Kursi “Allah . There is no god but He “
 This surah negates the idea of polytheism and destroys all assumptions of family
relations of Allah
 Same theme is mentioned in surah Al Anaam which states that Allah does not have
wife and no concept of family and children

(b) Importance in daily life


 We must not associate any son , daughter or wife to Him unlike the Quraish who
related Angels as Allah’s daughters and few non Muslims who relate some prophets to
Allah as His sons
 Since everything is created by Him so we should not hold His creation equal to Him
 The humans are the best creation therefore , we should not degrade ourselves by
worshipping the creation just like us or even inferior to us
 We should avoid polytheism , if we have more than on God then our lives will be in a
state of confusion and disorder
 This surah also give a powerful message , Haztat Anas (RA) reported the saying of
Prophet (saw) “If any one recites two hundred times daily “say , He is Allah , One “ the
sin of fifty years will be wiped out , unless he is in debt” (Tirmezi)
 The Holy Prophet has declared it as one third of Quran
