knowledge to understand what
the symbol represents.
What are Safety Signs and Symbols ?
Safety signs and symbols are
easily recognizable graphic labels
that represent the general
protocol and safety instructions in
either workplaces,
establishments, or public spaces.

Sign
- It is a form of language that is descriptive in
nature. For example: NO SMOKING
- A sign could stand for something, has a
specific meaning that can’t be interpreted in
any other way, and it is mandatory to be
followed.
Symbol
- A representation of something that is
accepted by certain groups or people.
- It may have many meanings and its
interpretations may vary as the people may
perceive differently.
What are Safety Signs and Symbols?
- These are recognizable graphic labels that
represent general protocol and safety
instructions in either workplaces,
establishments, school, or public spaces.
- They are safety communication tools that
send messages, instructions and warnings
without too many words.
- Characterized by images which may have
supplementary text.
For example:- This safety symbol means “First
Aid”. Use this symbol to identify the location
of first aid station.
- This mandatory sign is being displayed on
doors and gates. It is a requirement that the
gates or doors must always be kept locked.
To understand better the topic, l will share to
the class a short video clip about “Safety Signs
Video and Comprehension Questions”. I will
instruct the learners that as they watch, they
need to take down notes on the safety signs
and symbols they see throughout the clip.

4. Skills Practice (10 minutes)
The teacher will show five different safety signs and
symbols on the board. She will instruct the learners to
place those school safety signs and symbols in its proper
column to which they belong, and give the
meaning of those signs and symbols.
