The School of Life Sciences seeks to employ an ad hoc lecturer in Biochemistry to contribute partly in the teaching of two
honours level modules (BIOC709W1 and BIOC711W1) and Biochemistry compopnents of an undergraduate level module
(BIMI200W1). When all of these modules will be offered in the first semester of the year, the BIOC709W1 focuses the
selected advance topics from the area of gene protocols and reporter gene assay techniques and BIOC711W1 focuses the
propagation and cryopreservation of mammalian cells including immortal cell lines including some selected cell-based
assays. The Biochemistry component of BIMI200W1 focuses the carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids and proteins, vitamins,
cofactors, enzymes and nucleic acids including their clinical correlations with eye related disorders. The teaching and
assessment of all of the above-mentioned modules will be done in conjunction with and under the coordination of regular
academics. The successful applicant will also be required to assist in conducting assessments, including tests, exams and
practicals, for the relevant part of the modules in consultation with the Module Coordinators and technical staff. No course
development is required. Demonstrator and Teaching Assistant support are available for practicals of selected module as
per school’s prevailing policies.

The incumbent will report to the Academic Leader – Biotechnology Cluster (Westville Campus).

Minimum Requirements:
• PhD degree or Masters degree with evidence of submission of PhD thesis for examination in Biochemistry or a
relevant field.
• Experience in teaching in a relevant field at tertiary level.
• Evidence of presentations at national or international conferences.
• Current research activity as evidenced by publication(s) in quality scientific journals.

Advantages:
• Teaching and assessment experience in online platform
• Experience of teaching of all or some of the above-mentioned moudules.

The appointment will be at standard University rates on a per lecture/tutorial/practical basis.
