This and That A

We use ‘this` and ‘that’ to point out singular things around


us.
‘This’ is used for the things that near to us. ‘That’ is used for
the things that far from us.

1. This is a van.

2. That is a van.

Fill in the blanks using ‘this’ and ‘that’ .

A Use of Am, Is and Are
There are three little words that we use often, whenever we
talk about ourselves or about others. They are ‘am’, ‘is’ and
‘are’.
 Am
‘Am’ is used only with ‘I’.
 Is
‘Is’ is used with ‘he, ‘she’, ‘it’, ‘this’ , ’that’ and singular
number etc.
 Are
‘Are’ is used with ‘we’, ‘you’ and ‘they’ and plural number.

There are some examples use of ‘am’ , ‘is’ , and ‘are’ :

She is a dancer. They are dancers.

Use of ‘was’
We use ‘was’ for a singular noun or pronoun.
The house was small.
Preeti was absent yesterday.
Yesterday was Monday.
She was ill.
Use of ‘were’
We use ‘were’ for a plural noun or pronoun.
You were playing.
Children were dancing.
They were not happy.
We were lucky .

Aman was a poor man.
My grandfather was very rich.
He was ill.
You were present in class .

Has / Have A

Look at the following sentences:

I have a pet dog. You have a pet dog. We have a pet dog.

This boy has a pet cat. Amit has a car. Riya has a football.
They have a pet cat. He has a car. She has a fooball.
‘I have a pet cat’ means that I own the cat . ‘Has’ and ‘Have’
are used when we want to say we own something.
‘Has’ is used after singular words. ‘Have’ is used after ‘I` ,
‘ we ‘ ‘they’ ‘you’ and plural words.
‘ Has ‘ and ‘ have ‘ are used when we speak about now or
today.
