1. Planning Information
A. Effectivity
This Service Bulletin introduces a new Honeywell replacement ELT RESCU 406(SE) for all existing
RESCU 406(S) ELTs. The new RESCU 406(SE) will have FAA TSO approval by April 18, 2008.
B. Concurrent Requirements
Not applicable:
C. Reason
The existing RESCU 406(S) ELTs, P/N 1151324-1 Series 1, 2, 3, 4, P/N 1151324-1MXXX Series 5,
P/N 1152794-1M431 Series 1, P/N 1152890-1MXXX Series 1, P/N 1152892-1MXXX Series 1, and
P/N 1153046-1MXXX Series 1 were developed in 1993-1994. Key parts in these units are no longer
procurable due to parts obsolesence. Honeywell, therefore, can no longer support continued
production of the RESCU 406(S) ELTs.
In anticipation, Honeywell has developed a replacement unit for the RESCU 406(S) ELTs. This new
unit, called the RESCU 406(SE), P/Ns 1153426-1MXXX, 1153532-1MXXX, 1153534-1MXXX,
1153536-1MXXX and 1153538-1, is fully compatible to the RESCU 406(S) ELTs.
Due to the obsolescence of the RESCU 406(S) ELT, Honeywell will start delivery of the replacement
RESCU 406(SE) ELT starting April 30, 2008. Honeywell will continue to support the delivery of
RESCU 406(S) ELT until December 31, 2008. After December 31, 2008, Honeywell will only support
delivery of the RESCU 406(SE) ELT.
D. Description
The RESCU 406(SE) is a portable-survival type ELT, that activates automatically upon contact with
water or manually through a 4 position switch at the bottom of the unit. The RESCU 406(SE) transmits
on three emergency signals, at 121.5 MHz, 243.0 MHz, and 406 MHz. Once activated, the RESCU
406SE transmits bursts of digitally encoded 406 MHz signals and continuous 121.5/243.0 MHz
signals.
The RESCU 406(SE) has similar operating procedure to the RESCU 406(S), but with the following
enhanced capabilities:
1. Reduced chassis/mounting bracket length by 127.0 mm (5.0 in.) (refer to Figure 1),
2. Reduced weight of approximately 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs) for RESCU 406(SE) + mounting bracket.
3. 4 position switch; ON/OFF/ARMED/SELF-TEST,
4. LED indicator: transmit mode and self-test results,
5. Re-programmable without opening unit,
6. 10-year service life battery,
7. Fewer parts, improved reliability,
8. Improved availability, no obsolete parts,
9. Easy to use “on land” in “fresh water” or in “salt water”,
10. Automatic water activation,
11. Same operating principal as RESCU 406(S), no retraining,
12. Same physical shape,

13. Same automatic transmitter water activation mode,
14. Same automatic antenna deployment,
15. Same mounting bracket operation,
16. Same mounting hole configuration for mounting bracket,
17. No salt bag,
18. No mercury tilt switch,
19. Improved tether design, and
20. Line replaceable battery pack.
The RESCU 406(SE) is being certified to FAA TSO-C91A and TSO-C126, as well as COSPAS-
SARSAT.

1153534-1MXXX, 1153536-1MXXX and 1153538-1 are compatible with all existing RESCU 406(S)
ELTs, hence, it is fully backward compatible to the existing RESCU 406(S) ELTs.
The RESCU 406(SE) mounting bracket has the same two required (lower) mounting holes as the
RESCU 406(S) mounting bracket. The third upper mounting hole is an optional mounting hole and is
not required for certification.
