Define the Branches of Civil Engineering :

Construction Engineering – Construction engineering is a professional discipline that

deals with the designing, planning, construction and management of infrastructures
such as roads, tunnels, bridges, airports, railroads, facilities, buildings, dams, utilities
and other projects. Civil engineering is a related field that deals more with the practical
aspects of projects. Construction engineers learn some of the design aspects similar to
civil engineers as well as project site management aspects.

Environmental Engineering - Environmental engineering is a professional engineering

discipline that encompasses broad scientific topics like chemistry, biology, ecology,
geology, hydraulics, hydrology, microbiology, and mathematics to create solutions that
will protect and also improve the health of living organisms and improve the quality of
the environment. Environmental engineering is a sub-discipline of civil engineering and
chemical engineering. While on the part of civil engineering, the Environmental
Engineering is focused mainly on Sanitary Engineering.

Geotechnical Engineering - Geotechnical engineering is the branch of civil

engineering concerned with the engineering behavior of earth materials. It uses the
principles of soil mechanics and rock mechanics for the solution of its respective
engineering problems. It also relies on knowledge of geology, hydrology, geophysics,
and other related sciences. Geotechnical (rock) engineering is a subdiscipline of
geological engineering.

Material Engineering - The interdisciplinary field of materials science covers the design
and discovery of new materials, particularly solids. The field is also commonly termed
materials science and engineering emphasizing engineering aspects of building useful
items, and materials physics, which emphasizes the use of physics to describe material
properties.

Structural Engineering - Structural engineering is a sub-discipline of civil engineering

in which structural engineers are trained to design the 'bones and muscles' that create
the form and shape of man-made structures. Structural engineers also must understand
and calculate the stability, strength, rigidity and earthquake-susceptibility of built
structures for buildings and nonbuilding structures.
Transportation Engineering - Transportation engineering or transport engineering is
the application of technology and scientific principles to the planning, functional design,
operation and management of facilities for any mode of transportation in order to
provide for the safe, efficient, rapid, comfortable, convenient, economical, and
environmentally compatible movement of people and goods transport. The planning
aspects of transportation engineering relate to elements of urban planning, and involve
technical forecasting decisions and political factors.

Urban Planning - Urban planners work with civil engineers to envision the future of
cities, regions and the state. While most urban planners are not civil engineers, it's
important that they understand their interconnected issues.

Water Resources Engineering - These engineers deal with the design and
construction of hydraulic structures and these structures include dams, canals and
water distribution system. The engineer is responsible for the design of the structure as
well as the implementation and safety precautions that must be closely adhered to when
dealing with hydraulic structures.
