Chapter 1 Introduction
Exaquantum can collect process data from any OPC server that is compliant with the OPC
Specification.
The most common OPC server is Yokogawa’s Exaopc server, normally referred to as an
Exaopc Station.
This document covers:
• Basic set-up of standalone Exaopc servers for use with Exaquantum.
• Settings and use of an Exaopc Station specifically with Exaquantum. It should be
viewed as an additional resource to the documentation sets of both products.
• Connection to a single Exaopc Station. A separate document covers connecting to
an Exaopc-RD cassette.
• Standard practices although in some cases some customisation may be used.
Contact your Yokogawa support channel if your system doesn’t match the settings in
this document.
Exaquantum collects live and historical process data from OPC Servers including Exaopc.
An Exaopc server will connect to the DCS and provide data to Exaquantum. Optionally, two
Exaopc Servers can be combined to provide a redundant configuration to an Exaopc-RD
server, which in turn can make data available to Exaquantum (not covered in this
document).

1.1 Audience
This document provides useful information for engineers who are setting up an Exaopc
Station that will provide data for an Exaquantum system.
It should be read by qualified engineers who are planning to install Exaopc to be used by
Exaquantum and also by authorised persons who will maintain the Exaopc installation.

1.2 Limitations
The document does not cover the hardware installation of an Exaopc station. Also not
covered is the use of a redundant Exaopc-RD configuration. This will be covered in a
separate document.

Chapter 2 Installation of Exaopc

Detailed installation steps are not provided in this document. These are contained in the
Exaopc manual set.

2.1 Security Model Selection

Yokogawa products make different security models available. These affect the users that
run various processes but do not affect function of the products.
The security model should match the security model of both the DCS and the Exaquantum
server to allow a standard installation.
If this is not possible then the Exaopc installation guide does provide options for mis-
matched installations. Refer to the Exaopc documentation set for details.

2.2 Installation Steps

Install the Exaopc software according to the steps described in the relevant manual set.
Exaopc basic installation is not in the scope of this document.
Once the Exaopc station is installed and connected to the DCS, the connection to
Exaquantum can be considered.

Chapter 3 Exaquantum Installation

Install Exaquantum according to the Exaquantum Installation Guide. Ensure that the security
model used will match that of the Exaopc server. This document doesn’t cover the initial
installation. No specific steps during installation are required to allow Exaquantum to access
data although post installation configuration is required.

Chapter 4 Exaopc Cassettes and Servers

Exaopc uses different cassettes to define the functionality and data that is provided. The
cassettes generally used by Exaquantum and covered below.
Each cassette has up to three progIDs which are the programmatic interfaces used to allow
data collection.

4.1 Exaopc-STN
This is the most common Exaopc cassette and is used to provide point data (DA server),
alarm and event data (AE server) and historical data (HDA server)
The cassette has sales code NTPF100-S11 (English version) and allows connection to
CENTUM VP only.
4.1.1 DA Server
The progID used for the DA server is Yokogawa.ExaopcDACS1
4.1.2 AE Server
The ProgID used for the AE server is Yokogawa.ExaopcAECS1
4.1.3 HDA server
The progID used for the HDA server is Yokogawa.ExaopcHDACS1

4.2 Exaopc-STN-CAMS
This cassette allows CAMS for HIS messages to be collected when configured on the DCS.
The DA server behaves in the same way as for Exaopc_STN but the progID for the AE and
HDA servers are different.
The cassette has sales code NTPF100-S61 (English version) and allows connection to
CENTUM VP supporting CAMS for HIS.
4.2.1 DA Server
The progID used for the DA server is Yokogawa.ExaopcDACS1
4.2.2 AE Server
The ProgID used for the AE server is Yokogawa.ExaopcAEVPCAMS1
4.2.3 HDA server
The progID used for the HDA server is Yokogawa.ExaopcHDAVPCAMS1

4.3 Others
Some cassettes are outside the scope of this document.
4.3.1 Exaopc-RD
This cassette allows for a pair of Exaopc-STN stations to be used in a redundant
configuration.
The cassette has sales code NTPF100-SX1 (English version) and allows connection to a
pair of Exaopc-STN stations in a redundant configuration. Connection of Exaopc-RD to
Exaopc-STN_CAMS is not supported.
4.3.2 Exaopc Batch
Allows the collection of batch data from VP Batch. This has Sales code NTPF100-SB1.

Chapter 5 Setting up DA and AE Server

Once installed, the Exaopc station needs to be configured to communicate with
Exaquantum.

5.1 Post Installation Configuration – Exaopc

5.1.1 Add Main Exaquantum User Account
To allow Exaquantum to receive data from the Exaopc server, it is necessary to add the
main Exaquantum user account to the Exaopc server. This is done by adding a matching
local user to the Exaopc server.
First, determine the main Exaquantum user account. Generally, this will be ‘quantumuser’
for a Legacy System and ‘QTM_PROCESS’ for a system running Standard Security.
5.1.1.1 Legacy Security Model
For a Legacy Security system, create a local user account within the Windows operating
system of the Exaopc Server. The exact steps vary between operating systems but
generally this can be achieved within the Computer Management applet. Ensure that you
give the account the same password as the account on the Exaquantum server and that the
account is not set to expire or require a password change.
5.1.1.2 Standard Security Model
For a Standard Security system, the procedure is slightly different because the password of
the QTM_PROCESS user account is not published. This account is added by a tool on the
Exaquantum Installation Media. Insert the Exaquantum media in the Exaopc Station
computer.
The program is found under the Tools folder of the Exaquantum disc and is called
CreateQTMProcess.exe . Locate the application and run it from the disk. The account will be
created.
Note: it is possible to use a non-default password for this user. If this is the case, then the
CreateQTMProcess.exe tool is run in a slightly different way. Refer to Chapter 2.9 of the
Exaquantum Installation Manual for details of this tool.
5.1.1.3 Hybrid or Other Security Model
Refer to Exaopc documentation or support channel for support for other security models

Exaopc for Exaquantum Setup and Troubleshooting Guide Knowledge Base Article 9
5.2 Post Installation Configuration – Exaquantum
To collect data from the Exaopc Server, it is necessary to create an OPC Gateway within
Exaquantum. This is covered in the Exaquantum documentation but the basic steps are as
follows:
5.2.1 Open the Exaquantum Administration Tools
Navigate to the OPC Gateways Page
Create a New Gateway of Type Exaopc-STN, specifying a name, an optional description,
the host name of the Exaopc Server and optionally whether to collect alarm and event
messages. You can also choose to select automatic data recovery and recalculation. The
default settings are usually sufficient. Click the Apply button to finish the Gateway definition.

This concludes the post installation configuration steps required to allow Exaquantum to
read DA and AE data from an Exaopc server.
5.2.2 Configuration Settings for HDA
Exaquantum includes two methods for filling in gaps caused by shutdowns or network
issues. These are History Catchup which runs when Exaquantum server is started up and
Data Recovery which runs when Exaquantum server is running. Both methods require HDA
data to be available on the Exaopc Server.
To allow Exaquantum to retrieve data using history catch-up, ensure that this is enabled in
the History Catch-up screen of the Administration Tools.

Chapter 6 Exaopc Configuration

The HDA server within Exaopc is not turned on by default and needs to be configured
before it can be used. This configuration is done by accessing the Historical Data tab within
the Exaopc Setup Tool which is access from the start menu.

There are various fields that need to be set when configuring the HDA and these are listed
below together with recommendation on how to set the configuration:

1 Trend Data: Scope of Keeping

This controls the collection of data items values. Set this to All

KB-0037-24 Exaopc for Exaquantum Setup and Troubleshooting Guide Exaopc R3.80 Issue 1.0 17th January 2024
Exaopc for Exaquantum Setup and Troubleshooting Guide Knowledge Base Article 11
2 Number of Records
This is used to specify how many data points you wish to store. The setting is global across
all tags. To calculate the number that you should enter, see the section below. Set this in
conjunction with item 5.

3 Data Gathering Mode

Decide whether to collect data when it changes or only periodically. Set this to Value
Change so that you get all new values.

4 Deadband
Used to specify a percentage deadband which can be used to reduce the amount of data
stored. Unfortunately, this setting is global and applies to all tags that are requested with any
deadband. It also has to be a whole number so the setting is of no use to Exaquantum.
Leave at 0.

5 Extension After Removing

This setting determines how long the Exaopc HDA server will continue to collect data when
the client deregisters a tag. The default is 48 hours. Increase this to match your longest
expected downtime. When a tag is de-registered on the client (for example, Exaquantum
shutdown) the Exaopc Station’s HDA server will cease to collect data for the tag once the
Extension After Removing period has elapsed. After a further time period, the HDA storage
file that contains the data will be removed (see also 8 Permanent). This setting has priority
over Number of Records. The maximum supported value according to the documentation
is 99 but tests with a larger number have been successful.

6 Historical Event: Scope of Keeping

Similar to item 1 but for Alarm and Event data. Use to switch on A&E collection. Set to All.

7 Number of Records
Use to specify the number of records that you want to store, based on the throughput of
A&E on the system and the period of downtime that you wish to recover. It is quite difficult to
establish this figure. Note that this number must be higher than the number for point data (2)
or A&E cannot be recovered.

8 Permanent
This check box can be checked to prevent files being deleted once the period specified in
item 5 elapses. Deleted tags will still stop collecting data following the Extension After
Removing period but the old data will sit in the files forever. It’s difficult to think of a use for
this setting so leave it unchecked unless you can think of a reason not to.

9 Save Folder
The location of the history files. Generally, the default is ok for this.

When the settings have been entered, apply them and then reboot the Exaopc Station so
that they take effect.

KB-0037-24 Exaopc for Exaquantum Setup and Troubleshooting Guide Exaopc R3.80 Issue 1.0 17th January 2024
Exaopc for Exaquantum Setup and Troubleshooting Guide Knowledge Base Article 12
6.1.1 Choosing the value for Point Data (item 2)
To set the correct values, you need to consider how much data you might want to recover in
the worst case and you also need to know the fastest update rate of your OPC Station. Then
you can use the following calculation to establish the number that you require:

Amount of Recovery Time in Seconds / Fastest Update Rate

Example: If you want to keep 3 days of data and you have 1 second tags then the number
you need is (3 x 24 hours x 60 minutes x 60 seconds) / 1 second = 259200

Example 2: To keep a week of data when 1 minute is your fastest update rate, the number
you need is (7 x 24 x 60 x 60) / 60 = 10080

Important: The Extension after removing field takes priority over the Number of Records.
Therefore, in the Example 2 above, if the Extension After Removing is left at the 48 hours
default, data would stop collecting after Exaquantum had been stopped for around 2 days.
In this case, set the Extension after removing to 168.
6.1.2 Limitations
Site experience has shown that the number of records value may need to be reduced if the
Exaopc stations use a virtual environment.
It has also been found that the number of values for an Exaopc-RD system may need to be
reduced.
When determining the values in use for such configurations, it is important to remember the
main reason for the HDA mechanism which is to allow maintenance restarts of the Exaopc
stations.
The default value of 2880 can be increased but it may be necessary to experiment with
different values to find the limit of what can be successfully recovered.
All systems will be different but a value of 12,000 have been confirmed in a number of site
environments. This provides a maintenance window of 3 hours for 1 second tags, much
longer for other update rates.
6.1.3 Making Changes to Historical Data Tab
Although it should be possible to make changes to any fields to adjust the HDA settings,
there have been many occasions where this operation has not succeeded and has led to
data not being stored.
Therefore, we recommend that any changes are applied by following the Resetting
Historical Data procedure that is outlined in a later Chapter of this document.

Chapter 7 Testing the Exaopc Server Function

To check that the Exaopc server is providing data, it is necessary to know the name of an
OPC Item that exists on the DCS. This item can be referenced in the Yokogawa DA Client
and then data availability can be tested.

7.1 Create a Tag on the DA Client

This step uses the Yokogawa DA Client on the Exaopc Server. It is called ZOPDAClient.exe
and is usually found in the following location:
C:\EXA\exaopc\tool
The steps to add a tag are:
a) Open the tool by double-clicking in the folder
b) In the Connect section, click on the ProgID dropdown and select
Yokogawa.ExaopcDACS1
c) Click Connect (changes to Disconnect after clicking)
d) In the Select Group section, click on the Select/Add button
e) In the Item management section, type the name of an OPC ItemID in the Item field.
f) Click on the Add button

7.2 Check AE events
To check the AE events are coming into the Exaopc server, use the Yokogawa AE Client. It
is called ZOPAEClient.exe and is found in the same tools folder as the DA Client, usually:
C:\EXA\exaopc\tool
To use the tool, double-click the executable from the folder location. No configuration is
required. Events should appear in the tool after a short time. The screenshot shows the tool
displaying events:

7.3 Check HDA
Creating a tag will also start the HDA data collection process. Check this by using the
ZOCSvrInfo tool
The tool is found in the same location as the DA client tool, usually:
C:\EXA\exaopc\tool
Test HDA by the following steps:
a) Open the tool by double-clicking in the folder location
b) Expand the Historical Data Access node
c) Expand the CS1 node
d) Expand the Historical Data node
e) Expand the first Periodxxxx node, normally Period0001
f) Click on a tag in the list
g) Verify that values are present

Chapter 8 Checking Exaopc Data in Exaquantum

It is possible that the verification of data and AE in Exaquantum will take place as part of the
Exaquantum configuration process. However, the following checks can be made to gain
confidence that the link is working.

8.1 Check DA data coming into Exaquantum

This procedure assumes that the Exaopc Gateway has already been configured according
to the steps outlined earlier in this document.
If there are tags already configured, then these can be checked to see if data is coming
through. If there are no tags configured, add a tag by following these steps.
a) Open the Exaquantum Administration Tools
b) Expand the Yokogawa Exaquantum Node
c) Expand the Tag Configuration Node
d) Click on the Tag Template Page
e) Check if there is a suitable OPC template already configured.
f) If not, click on the New button
g) Enter a name, for example ConnectionTest
h) In the OPC Communication section, change the Period to 10 seconds
i) Click the Apply button

The following image illustrates the above steps (there are additional Templates on this
server)

KB-0037-24 Exaopc for Exaquantum Setup and Troubleshooting Guide Exaopc R3.80 Issue 1.0 17th January 2024

Add the tag by following these steps:
a) Open the Exaquantum Administration Tools if not already open
b) Expand the Yokogawa Exaquantum Node
c) Expand the Tag Editor Node
d) Click on the Tag Editor Page
e) Right-click on the Root node and click Add
f) Click on OPC Tag and click OK
g) Give the Tag a name such as ConnectionTest
h) Select the ConnectionTest Tag Template from the dropdown
i) Enter a valid OPC ItemID in the OPC Item ID field (these are case-sensitive)
j) Check that the correct OPC Gateway is selected in the OPC Gateway dropdown
k) Click the Apply button

The following screenshot illustrates the above steps:

After a short delay, the tag should display changing values in the Tag Information section.
This verifies that DA data can be received from the Exaopc station.
The ConnectionTest tag can be deleted or retained as a sanity check tag.

8.2 Check Alarm and Events
To check Alarm and Events are coming through, use Exaquantum/Explorer which can be
found within the Exaquantum program group.
Follow these steps:
Open Exaquantum/Explorer from the start menu.
1. Click File and New Document to create a new document
2. Select the Updating AE Control by clicking on it in the Palette. It is called
MXQuantumEventUpdate and looks like this
3. Add the control to the document by clicking on the document and then resize it to fill
the page.
4. Click on the blue ‘play’ icon at in the ribbon
5. The document will run and events will appear after a short delay

The following image illustrates the document before the play button is pressed:

Verify that events from the Exaopc Station are shown in the control.
Note: if there are multiple OPC Gateways, take care that events from the Gateway being
tested are in the list – use the filtering on the update control (right-click, properties and OPC
Servers tab when in design mode) to remove other Gateways if needed.
If events are seen, this verifies that Alarm and event messages can be seen in Exaquantum.

Chapter 9 Maintenance of an Exaopc Station

Maintenance operations for an Exaopc Station are very similar to the initial checks.
Essentially, the same checks should be performed that are run in the relevant Chapter. Care
should be taken to ensure that the values seen in the client tools are recent, particularly in
the case of HDA checks.
In addition, general maintenance tasks such as checking disk space, cpu usage and error
messages are important.
There is an Exaopc Health Check document available from the support website (see Further
Reading).

Chapter 10 Trouble-shooting an Exaopc Station

Connection
If the above tests fail, then it is usual to contact a support channel for further advice.
However, the following steps can help to rule out some causes.

10.1 No data in Exaopc Station or Exaquantum

Firstly, check how far data is getting. Verify that data is coming into the Exaopc station as
indicated in the initial check Chapter. If there is no data in Exaopc, verify that there is data in
the DCS and check for communication errors. Reboot the Exaopc Station to see if this
resolves the problem.
If data is present in the Exaopc Station but not in Exaquantum, the DA client can be run on
the Exaquantum server to see if the data is reaching the computer. The steps for this are
similar to running the tool on the Exaopc Station but are outlined below:
The tool is called ZOPDAClient.exe and is located in the following folder by default:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Yokogawa\Exaquantum PIMS\Exaopc\exaopc\tool
The steps to view a tag are:
a) Open the tool by double-clicking in the folder
b) In the Connect section, click on the ProgID dropdown and select
Yokogawa.ExaopcDACS1
c) Type the computer name of the Exaopc Station in the Node field
d) Click Connect (changes to Disconnect after clicking)
e) In the Select Group section, click on the Select/Add button
f) In the Item management section, type the name of an OPC ItemID in the Item field.
g) Click on the Add button
h) In the Group Information section click in the Subscribe and Active check boxes
i) Verify that values appear in the tool.
If values appear in the DA client but not in Exaquantum, verify that time synchronisation is
correct (check both the time displayed and the time zone). This is the biggest single cause
of data not getting to Exaquantum.
If time synchronisation is correct, double-check all the steps required for the connection,
particularly Exaopc Gateway settings and the tag settings (both template and tag definition
in Tag Editor).

10.2 No HDA in Exaopc Station

Occasionally, it may be seen that values are no longer being collected in the HDA server of
the Exaopc Station. The biggest cause of this is when settings have been changed without
following the correct procedure (see Resetting History Collection).
Generally, when HDA data is not being stored, the only way to recover it is to reset the
history collection.

If any changes are made to the Historical Data Tab or if history collection fails, it is
recommended to reset history collection. This procedure, involves two restarts of the Exaopc
station and consists of the following steps:

a) Open the Exaopc Setup Configuration Tool (Start > All Programs > Yokogawa Exa >
Exaopc Setup) and select the Historical Data Tab.
b) Set both Trend Data and Historical Event Scope of Keeping to Nothing.
c) Reboot the Exaopc Station
d) Stop the EXA bossd services
e) Navigate to the Save folder that is specified in the Configuration Tool. The default is
C:\Exa\Save .
f) Delete everything in the Save Folder
g) Open the Exaopc Setup Configuration Tool (Start > All Programs > Yokogawa Exa >
Exaopc Setup) and select the Historical Data Tab.
h) Set the required values if they need to change and set the Trend Data and Historical
Event Scope of Keeping to All.
i) Reboot the Exaopc Station
j) When it has restarted, navigate to the Save folder location and verify the folders and
sub folders have been created. The following sample screenshot is taken from a
simple configuration and gives an indication of what should be expected:

Chapter 12 Collecting Failure Data

If there is a failure with Exaopc and it is not possible to find the cause, then it is necessary to
collect failure data for review, either at YMX or at YHQ.
Exaquantum stores errors in the Windows Application event log but Exaopc has its own
mechanism and stores data in text files. Having said that, it is still useful to have the
Windows event logs to check for all possible issues.

12.1 Data to collect

If there is a failure in Exaopc, fill in a Call Logging document (available on request) and
collect the following:
1. All files in the Log folder of Exaopc which by default is C:\Exa\Log. These files can be
zipped for transport.
2. The Application and System Windows event logs from the Exaopc Station.
3. If this is a connection issue, then also supply the Windows Event logs from the OPC Client
computer, e.g. Exaquantum.
4. Information about any changes that have recently been made.
5. In all cases, make sure that you specify the version of Exaopc that is in use and whether
any patches have been installed.
Note: There is a tool called PMCDumpWiz.exe that can be used to collect the logs for item 1
and item 2 as well as additional data and crash dumps. It is preferable to run this tool but the
output can be large which means that sometimes it is quicker to send the logs in isolation.
To run the tool, search the server for PMCDumpWiz.exe, run the executable and follow on
screen instructions.
