1/2 LC (1/2 left cross) Slip 1 st to cable needle and hold in front, k2, then k1 from cable needle.

3/1 RPC (3 over 1 right purl cross): Slip 1 st to cable needle and hold in back, k3, then p1 from cable needle.
3/2 LPC (3 over 2 left purl cross): Slip 3 sts to cable needle and hold in front, p2, then k3 from cable needle.
3/2 RPC (3 over 2 right purl cross): Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k3, then p2 from cable needle.
sk2p (slip 1, k2tog, pass over) Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over – 2 sts decreased.

Texture Stitch Pattern (worked over a multiple of 5 sts + 2 additional sts)
Row 1 (RS): * P2, 1/2 RC; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.
Row 2: Purl.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for Texture St pattern.
NOTES
1. Bag is made in 2 pieces: Body and Top/Side Panel.
2. Body is worked in Cable pattern. Front is worked first, from lower edge upwards. Then sts are picked up
along cast on edge of front to work the back.
3. The first 3 sts of each row of Body are worked in St st (k on RS, p on WS) and the last 3 sts are slipped,
to create I-cord side edging. An I-cord bind-off is worked to create I-cord top edging.
4. Top/Side Panel is worked in Texture pattern. A slit is created in the Panel and a zipper is sewn into the slit.
5. Cable pattern and Texture pattern can be worked by following written instructions or reading Charts.
Read RS rows of Charts from right to left and WS rows from left to right.
6. With yarn in front (wyif) refers to the side of the work facing you as you work the row; with yarn in back
(wyib) refers to the side of the work that is away from you as you work the row. To move yarn from front
to back or back to front, bring yarn between needles. Take care not to wrap yarn over a needle, this
could create an additional st.

BODY
Front
Cast on 56 sts.
Set-Up Row (WS): P8, k3, p5, k4, p16, k4, p5, k3, p5, sl 3 wyif.
Row 1 (RS): K3, place marker (pm), work Row 1 of Cable pattern over next 50 sts, pm, sl 3 wyib.
Row 2: P3, slip marker (sm), work Row 2 of Cable pattern to next marker, sm, sl 3 wyif.
Rep Rows 1 and 2, working first 3 sts in St st (k on RS, p on WS), slipping last 3 sts, and working Cable pattern
as established between markers, until a total of 54 rows have been worked, end with a Row 22 of Cable
pattern as the last row you work.
I-cord Bind off: From RS, k3, slip 3 sts from right hand needle back to left hand needle, * (k2, ssk, slip 3 sts
from right hand needle back to left hand needle) twice, k2, sk2p, slip 3 sts from right hand needle back to
left hand needle; rep from * until only 3 sts remain, sk2p.
Fasten off.
Back
From RS, pick up and k56 sts evenly spaced along cast on edge of front.
Beg at Set-Up Row, work same as front.
TOP/SIDE PANEL
First Side
Cast on 32 sts.
Purl 1 row.
Beg with Row 1 of pattern, work in Texture St pattern until piece measures about 6 in. (15 cm) from beg,
end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Place a marker on each end of last row worked.
Create slit opening
Row 1 (RS): (P2, 1/2 RC) 3 times, p1 for first side of opening; join a 2nd ball of yarn, p1, (1/2 RC, p2) 3 times
for 2nd side of opening.
You will now work both sides of opening AT THE SAME TIME, with separate balls of yarn.
Row 2: Purl all sts of each side, using separate balls of yarn
Row 3: On first side, (p2, 1/2 RC) 3 times, p1; on 2nd side, p1, (1/2 RC, p2) 3 times.
Rep Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures about 9 in. (23 cm) from markers at beg of top opening, end with a
WS row as the last row you work.
Place a marker on each edge of last row worked.

Second Side
Cut 2nd ball of yarn.
Next Row (RS): Using only one ball of yarn and working across all sts of both sides of top opening, work Row
1 of Texture St pattern.
Next Row: Purl.
Continue in Texture St pattern until piece measures about 6 in. (15 cm) from markers at end of top opening,
end with a RS row as the last row you work.
Bind off.
FINISHING
With sewing needle and thread, sew zipper into the Panel slit. If zipper is a bit too long, just leave the excess
zipper inside the Bag. If zipper is too short, sew a portion of the slit closed.
Find the line on the Bag where you bound off and picked up sts across the center of the Body.
On one end of the line, place 2 markers; each marker 1 1/2 in. (4 cm) out from the line.
Pin one end of Top/Side Panel between these markers.
Sew the end of the Panel in place between markers to make the base of the Bag.
Remove the markers.
Repeat with opposite end of Panel on opposite side of Bag.
Pin one long side edge of Panel to front of Bag, then pin the opposite long side edge of Panel to back of Bag.
The zipper will be at the top of the Bag, the markers on the Panel should be at the top corners of the Bag.
Sew long edges of the Panel to the front and back of Bag.
Weave in ends.
