Evil and good are two sides of the same coin and they coexist across society in a

balanced way. Facing different problems in quotidian life such as wars and injustices, it
is ordinary for people to act against these situations. However, in some special cases,
people are prone not to act against meanness, being these cases the ones to be examined,
so as to understand why people might not react against evil.
Not only wars are evil, but also daily problems that may be encountered every
day. Even though philosophers and common people have argued about this topic
through the centuries, not everyone acts against them. Why? One very convincing
argument that people use is that they may not have the power to change large-scale evil.
Although true, it is also certain that society should act against the problems they can
face, hence issues such as bullying might be easily reverted. Evil could be, therefore,
extinguished if everyone commits and acts against unfair situations. Generally, things
appear to be difficult, yet evil is not created itself, therefore, as people have created it,
people can end it.
However, it is undeniable that there are some circumstances in which people
may not act against evil, either because it might result against one’s own benefit or
because it can result in problems of greater magnitude. In spite of the fact that wars give
rise problems such as deaths and famine, different regimes take advantage of them and
increase their wealth when participating in wars due to the fact that they make money
by manufacturing weapons and army uniforms. Therefore, acting against evil to prevent
wars might affect their own benefits. Besides, it is virtually certain that acting against
mean actions can result in someone’s own detriment, therefore, people tend not to
counteract in these cases.
Taking everything into account, there is no absolute answer to the problem of
solving mean acts. Besides, it has been seen that evil can be experienced either in small
or large scale. However, people’s selfishness might result in having meanness in daily
life, since common problems can be solved easily if people start considering not only
their own benefits but also someone else’s will.
