Networking -
Computer Network - Computer network is a collection of computers or devices
connected to share resources. Power the Internet, business communications, and
everyday digital interactions. Computers, servers, printers, and other hardware.
Node - Any device which can share or receive the data is called a Node. Router and
Switches
Channels - Through which the information or data propagate is known as channels
Link in Computer Networks can be defined as wires or cables or free space of
wireless networks.
IP address stands for "Internet Protocol address, numerical identifier
Protocol: A protocol is a set of rules and standards that govern how data is
transmitted over a network. Examples TCP/IP, HTTP, and FTP.
Topology: Network topology refers to the physical and logical arrangement of nodes
on a network.
Domain Name System (DNS) is a protocol that is used to translate human-readable
domain names (such as www.google.com) into IP addresses that computers can
understand.
Firewall is a security device that is used to monitor and control incoming and
outgoing network traffic
Types of Enterprise Computer Networks-
LAN: A Local Area Network (LAN)
WAN: A Wide Area Network (WAN)
Cloud Networks: Cloud Networks can be visualized with a Wide Area Network (WAN),
Virtual Routers, Firewalls
Types of Computer Network Architecture
Client-Server Architecture: Network Architecture in which Nodes can be Servers or
Clients
Peer-to-Peer Architecture: Each device is free for working as either client or
server
OSI stands for Open Systems Interconnection - Standards for communications
protocols
Physical Layer -- Physical and electrical representation of the system. It
consists of various network components such as power plugs, connectors, receivers,
cable types, etc
Data link Layer -- DLL is also responsible for encoding, decoding, and organizing
the outgoing and incoming data.
Network Layer -- carry the data packets
Transport Layer -- End-to-End Connection between Hosts, The Process to Process
Delivery
Session Layer -- enables applications to establish and maintain sessions,
establishes a connection between the session entities
Presentation Layer -- Data which this layer receives from the Application Layer is
extracted and manipulated here as per the required format
Application Layer -- Services like file transmission, mail service, and many more.
provides services which include: e-mail, transferring files, distributing results
to the user, directory services, network resources
Identification -
Hostname: Each device in the network is associated with a unique device name known
as Hostname
IP Address, MAC Address- Physical Address, Port- logical channel
Socket: The unique combination of IP address and Port number together is termed a
Socket.
Internet is a global network of interconnected computers and servers that allows
people to communicate, share information.
Web - The Web is a model for sharing information using the Internet
