Key

1. Warm-up

5 mins.
This stage is to introduce the situation of meeting someone for the first time. The students look at the photo and
describe what they can see. Ask them who is in the picture, and what they are doing. The photo is of two students
meeting and talking.

2. Listening: Meeting someone new

10 mins.
This stage is for the students to hear the language in a natural context. Tell them they are going to hear the

box. Give the students a few minutes to read the words and the dialogue. Play the audio. Ask them to check their
answers in pairs. Play again if necessary. Review the answers.
Then show the students the contractions reference box. Demonstrate what a contraction is and when we use
them and then ask them to fill in the three gaps with the full form. Check the answers and then practice the
pronunciation.
Finish with the students practicing the dialogue in pairs, replacing the information so it is true for them.

10 mins.
This stage is for the students to use the language in a communicative task. The students need to walk around the

start and add them to the board, so the students have a reference if necessary. Do a quick demonstration with a
student in the class. During feedback, you can ask them to tell you about one classmate. Put the following on the
board so the students have a model to respond
His/her name is ...
He/she is from ...

5. Which Country?

10 mins.
This stage is to introduce different countries around the world. Tell the students they are going to watch a short
video. They should write down which countries they see. When the video is finished, ask them to discuss what

the word and stress pattern to the board. Then show the students the chart with the different stress patterns.
Review each one. Ask how many syllables and where is the stress. The students then, in pairs, put the countries
