Key
    1. Warm-up
         5 mins.
This stage is to introduce the situation of meeting someone for the first time. The students look at the photo and
describe what they can see. Ask them who is in the picture, and what they are doing. The photo is of two students
         meeting and talking.
    2. Listening: Meeting someone new
         10 mins.
This stage is for the students to hear the language in a natural context. Tell them they are going to hear the
conversation between the two people in the photo. They have to listen and fill in the gaps with a word from the
box. Give the students a few minutes to read the words and the dialogue. Play the audio. Ask them to check their
answers in pairs. Play again if necessary. Review the answers.
Then show the students the contractions reference box. Demonstrate what a contraction is and when we use
them and then ask them to fill in the three gaps with the full form. Check the answers and then practice the
         pronunciation.
Finish with the students practicing the dialogue in pairs, replacing the information so it is true for them.
         Part 1:

    4. Meet Everyone Mingle
         10 mins.
This stage is for the students to use the language in a communicative task. The students need to walk around the
room meeting people. Demonstrate the task first. You might want to elicit and review the sentences before you
start and add them to the board, so the students have a reference if necessary. Do a quick demonstration with a
student in the class. During feedback, you can ask them to tell you about one classmate. Put the following on the
board so the students have a model to respond
         His/her name is ...
         He/she is from ...
    5. Which Country?
         10 mins.
This stage is to introduce different countries around the world. Tell the students they are going to watch a short
video. They should write down which countries they see. When the video is finished, ask them to discuss what
they saw with their partner. Review the answers. You can use the video to review the countries.
Italy – Leaning Tower of Pisa
         Argentina- Iguazú Falls
         Britain – Big Ben
Japan – Mount Fuji and cherry blossom
         India– Taj Mahal
         Colombia – Piedra del Peñol

         Spain- Sagrada Familia
         Poland – Tatra Mountains
         Thailand – Phuket beach
         Egypt – The Pyramids
    6. Pronunciation: word stress
         10 mins.
This stage is for the students to practice pronunciation with a focus on word stress. Demonstrate with one country.
Model the word. Elicit how many syllables. Use your fingers to highlight this. Then ask where the stress is. Add
the word and stress pattern to the board. Then show the students the chart with the different stress patterns.
Review each one. Ask how many syllables and where is the stress. The students then, in pairs, put the countries
in the right column. Review and practice the pronunciation.
The students finish by working out which four countries Tom visited based on the stress pattern
Tom visited Argentina, Japan, Spain, Colombia
         O: Spain
         oO: Japan

activity, they are from a different country. First, they have to read their country and add their nationality. Monitor
and check the students have the correct nationality. Then show them the example dialogue and do a quick
demonstration with a student. They then talk to everyone in the class to find out where they are from. During
