-A metaphor is a type of figurative language that compares to unlike things to each other
-Example from book- Grandpa compares Jordan, Drew, and Liam to Chinese food- Shrimp Lo Mein, General Tso’s
chicken, and pepper steak.
-The meaning is Jordan doesn’t just have to chose Drew or Liam to hang out with they can all hang out together.
-Andy is not nice to other students because he is unsure of himself. He doesn’t know where he fits in, so to be
noticed he picks on the other students.
-He may have been bullied in the past, so now he bullies others
-At the end, Collin leaves the school and Andy has no friends. He has made everyone mad, so no one wants to sign
his yearbook. Jordan is nice to him by signing his yearbook.

-Riverdale Academy is much larger, the students are wealthier, there is more homework given, they are required to
try out for a sport, and the work is more rigorous.

-Jordan has to change the way he acts on the bus based on what neighborhood he is in
-He starts with a hoodie, shades, and no smile, then he pulls the hoodie down, then he takes off his shades and can
draw, then he smiles and doesn’t draw

-When Jordan’s parents say he looks like a “new kid” they mean that he is changing the way he presents himself. He
changed his outfit, no hoodie, preppy shirt and shorts. He even seems to be standing taller and showing more
confidence in himself.
