around the grass. Near the fountain, a group of friends is having a picnic. They are
eating sandwiches and drinking lemonade.
In the middle of the park, some musicians are playing guitars and singing. People are
stopping to listen, and some of them are clapping their hands.
At the same time, Mr. Jones is walking his dog, Max. Max is running after a squirrel,
and Mr. Jones is calling him back.

EXCEPTIONS
We DON’T use stative verbs in the Continuous form.
Stative verbs describe a state rather than an action.

STATIVE VERBS
● thoughts and opinions:
agree, believe, doubt, guess, imagine, know, mean,
recognise, remember, suspect, think, understand
● feelings and emotions:
dislike, hate, like, love, prefer, want, wish
● senses and perceptions:
appear, be, feel, hear, look, see, seem, smell, taste
● possession and measurement:
belong, have, measure, own, possess, weigh.
CONCLUSION
1) We use the present continuous for permanent states or situations. FALSE
We use the present continuous for temporary situations.
2) We often use the present continuous for things happening right TRUE
now.
3) We can use the present continuous for future arrangements. TRUE
4) We can use the present continuous with all verbs. FALSE

Some verbs – for talking about emotions, thinking, the senses,


etc. – cannot be used in the continuous form.
