IMPORTANT WARNINGS
The sections here below describe important warnings that must be read and
understood before installing and using UPS systems.
As these warnings are relevant for safety or required by current applicable laws
and standards, they are placed in the initial section of the instruction manual.
All queries or questions regarding these warnings should be addressed to SIEL
spa.

Warning. Positioning
To facilitate handling, the UPS is equipped with two wheels on the front side.
Lift the rear side with the handle and slide the UPS into the desired position.
The wheels can be used only for small movements on flat surfaces. For long distance movements, it is
necessary to use the support provided (platform).
ATTENTION! Never move the UPS taking it from the front sides: these elements can easily break as
they are not suitable to withstand the weight of the unit!

Warning. Battery fuses

Do not insert fuses into the UPS when it is off or depowered to prevent damaging them.
Carefully follow start-up instructions to insert the battery fuses.

DANGER. Dangerous voltages

The internal components of this system are powered with voltages that could cause severe injuries or
death.
All components with potentially dangerous voltages are grouped in special areas that can be accessed
only with tools that are not supplied with the UPS.
All maintenance operations and reparations that require access to these parts must be performed only by
qualified technical personnel trained by SIEL spa.

DANGER. Introduction of objects

Do not introduce objects in the ventilation openings and avoid using liquids to clean the system.
Cleaning operations should be performed with a dry cloth only. These warnings should be observed
even when the machine is off.

DANGER. Batteries
UPS are designed to be connected to batteries.
Batteries are "stores" of electric energy, often of large dimensions that should always be handled with
care. Their voltage amounts to hundreds of volts, which means that they are powered also when the
loads are disconnected. It is important to remember that the residual current present in discharged
batteries could be sufficient to cause severe injuries or death. It is also important to be careful not to
cause accidental electrical arcs.

DANGER. Electrolyte
Batteries should be immediately stored in containers resistant to sulfuric acid and disposed of
according to current laws if a leakage of electrolyte occurs.
Immediately wash the affected part in the event of accidental contact with the electrolyte.
Immediately flush the eyes with water and contact a doctor in the event of accidental contact with the
electrolyte.

Date of issue: 2005-02-18
Warning. UPS units present in the electric system
All UPS units, in their standard configuration, are systems that may affect the powered electric system
if not appropriately installed. Potential interference could affect the effectiveness of the protections
against indirect contacts, which must be present to ensure compliance with standard CEI 64-8. The
system should therefore be installed by competent and qualified personnel only, who is authorized to
issue a Certificate of conformity, as per the provisions of Law no. 46 dated 15.03.1990.

DANGER. Indirect contacts

Always verify that the neutral connection is present during the operation of the UPS.
If this connection is not present, the UPS continues to supply the load with an insulated neutral line.
This could cause the failure of the components that automatically disconnect the circuits downstream
from the UPS and to protect them from indirect contacts.

DANGER. Section of cables

Always verify that the section of power and/or output cables is adequate. This requirement applies also
to other cables of the system.

DANGER. Ground connection

The first cable to be connected should always be the ground cable. This cable should be the last one to
be disconnected when disconnecting the system.

Warning. Disconnecting units

Always verify that the supply mains is equipped with disconnecting units of suitable dimensions and
that these are operating correctly.

DANGER. Energy return

If the equipment or the power board are not equipped with a device suited to check the return of power
from the UPS to the mains, which should be installed on the spare cables, it is necessary to install, in a
visible position, next to all the power disconnecting switches to which the UPS is connected, labels
with the following warning:

THIS LINE IS CONNECTED TO A UPS UNIT. OPEN THE INPUT AND OUTPUT SWITCHES
OF THE UNIT BEFORE USING THIS CIRCUIT.

DANGER. First start-up

Always power the system after it has been thoroughly inspected by qualified personnel.

DANGER. Handling
UPS units are heavy. Therefore, all handling operations should be performed by qualified personnel
only. Before moving or transporting the system, it is also important to make sure that the floors and
"overhead" platforms are suited to tolerate the weight of the system.

Warning. Positioning
Always place the UPS away from heat sources.
Place the UPS in adequately ventilated rooms.
Place the UPS in adequately protected rooms. These systems are not suited to be installed outdoors.
Place the UPS in rooms free from dust; as dust may enter the equipment and prevent it from being
adequately cooled.

Warning. Ventilation
Do not obstruct the ventilation openings of the UPS (front and side panels).

IV122E Rev. 014 Siel S.p.A. Page 4 of 17+ 9 Figures + FR

Date of issue: 2005-02-18
Warning. Electromagnetic compatibility
UPS units, Series Blue Point, are compliant with the European standard (view “Valid Standards)
disciplining transmitted and irradiated noise. In particular these units are for “Unrestricted sales
distribution” including domestic application.

Warning. Batteries
Batteries should be regularly recharged (at least every 6 months). Siel S.P.A. shall not be responsible
for damages to the batteries originating from the failure to comply with this warning.

Warning: Packaging
Always keep the UPS packaging.
Any transport operations must be done with the UPS units in their original packaging.
UPS units returned for repairs in inadequate packaging or transported in horizontal position will not be
accepted and the warranty will not be acknowledged.

Warning. Ground current

The system is equipped with special filters that protect it from noise and from ground current.

DANGER. User's signals

All signals made visible to users by means of relay contacts are thoroughly insulated and protected
from dangerous voltages.
The insulation between the contacts is suitable only for voltages below 48V AC (60 Vdc). These
contacts should never be used for changeover operations.

DESCRIPTION OF THE BLUE POINT SYSTEM
Introduction
The UPS described in this manual has been designed using particularly advanced technologies and
components.
Its main function is to guarantee a continuous power supply to the loads to which it is connected, both
with or without power supplied from the mains, generating as output high quality electric energy, at
stabilized voltage and frequency suitable to feed the most sophisticated and delicate loads.

Interconnecting a UPS between the mains and the load offers the following advantages:
1) Electric energy of high level
The UPS independently generates output voltages and frequencies that are perfectly stabilized by the
electronic control circuits. This enables to control all the voltage and frequency variations on the
mains.
2) Filtration of the noise on the mains
The configuration of the circuits adopted ensures that the load is separated by the mains, thus
eliminating all the potential noises that may occur on the mains.
The interconnection of filters between the line and the loads guarantees a very high degree of
protection, also if the load is temporarily connected to the spare mains by means of a static changeover
switch.
3) Protection in the event of power failure
When a power failure occurs, the load continues to be powered by the batteries, for an amount of time
that varies according to the actual level of charge of the batteries.

Operation
(See Figure 1)
The rectifier [1] converts the mains voltage into a direct regulated and filtered voltage that can be used
by the inverter.
The inverter [2] takes the power from the rectifier [1] or battery charger [3] in order to supply the
loads with alternate current, with low distortion and constant frequency and amplitude.
The battery charger [3], which is completely independent from the rectifier, has two mains functions.
It maintains the battery in charge [4] when the rectifier is running, thus guaranteeing the availability of
the regulated direct voltage required to power the inverter in the even the rectifier is stopped due to a
power failure on the mains. This condition is maintained until the charge of the batteries is exhausted
or until the mains voltage is restored.
The logic control stops the UPS when the battery voltage reaches dangerously low levels (that could
potentially damage the units).
Before the actual shutdown, the logic issues an acoustic warning to signal that the charge of the battery
is low.
When power is restored on the mains, the rectifier resumes operation powering the inverter. The
battery charger recharges the battery with a limited current until the maintenance voltage is reached.
The charger is also able to conveniently adjust the maintenance voltage according to ambient
temperature.
The charge criteria is the same one defined in specification I-U of standard DIN 41773.

The rectifier is restarted progressively (soft-start circuit) to avoid overcurrents from starting the unit.

The technology adopted ensures a particularly high yield even with modest loads, thus guaranteeing
energy saving even in most common operating conditions.

The static changeover switch [5] enables to power the load from the mains every time a high overload
or a failure occurs on the inverter. As soon as the anomaly ceases, the load is automatically supplied
by the inverter (ON-LINE mode). The UPS can also be configured to operate in INTERACTIVE

IV122E Rev. 014 Siel S.p.A. Page 6 of 17+ 9 Figures + FR

Date of issue: 2005-02-18
mode: in this case the load is normally supplied by the mains and by the inverter only if a black-out
occurs.
The UPS also has a manual control that forces the mains supply of the load.

The front of the UPS is equipped with LEDs that enable to monitor the status of the machine. The
meaning of each LED is explained in Figure 2, while the related functions are described in detail in
paragraph "FRONT PANEL".

All the UPS parameters can be displayed by means of software applications developed by SIEL, which
can be interfaced with the UPS by means of optical fiber cables (there are also adapters that can be
fitted between the optical fiber and RS232 connections, both inside and outside the PC) or "clean"
contacts. For a more detailed description see paragraph "DESCRIPTION OF REMOTE SIGNALING
SYSTEMS".

INSTALLATION
Choosing the site of Installation
The UPS should be installed taking into account the following considerations.
• The room where the UPS is installed must be clean and dry to avoid materials or liquids from
being sucked inside the unit.
• The UPS can be installed in any location, provided that sufficient space is left around the unit to
guarantee an adequate exchange of air.

The temperature of the room where the UPS is installed must be maintained at a value ranging from 0°
C ÷ 40°C. However, to ensure the utmost reliability, ambient temperature should be maintained
around or below 25°C, with a percentage of humidity within 0÷90%, as indicated in the table listing
the technical specifications.

Visual Inspection
All the (electric and mechanic) parts of the UPS are thoroughly inspected before shipping and must be
integral at the time the unit is received. Upon receipt, it is always necessary to perform an accurate
inspection in order to make sure that the unit has not been damaged during transport.

Handling
To facilitate handling, UPS units are equipped with two wheels on the front side and with a handle on
the rear.
These wheels are suitable for small movements. For long distance movements, it is advisable to use
the transportation platform.
The UPS should always be moved with the handle provided and NEVER by grasping the front panel
plastics, which can easily break.

Considerations on safety
To reduce the risks of accidents to the minimum, it is advisable to observe a few precautions: walls,
ceilings, floors and anything that is placed around the UPS should not be manufactured with
inflammable material. All the floor surface surrounding the machine should always be maintained
clean to avoid metal dust, iron scraps or various metals from being sucked inside the UPS causing
short circuits.

ELECTRIC CONNECTIONS
(See Figure 3)

Power connections
To access the power connections it is necessary to remove the rear protection.
To perform this operation, loosen the screws that keep them in place: this operation must be
performed only by fully qualified personnel and using tools, since the parts to be removed are
powered.

ALL CABLE CONNECTION OPERATIONS MUST BE PERFORMED WHEN THE UPS IS OFF
AND THE SYSTEMS IS DISCONNECTED.
Always use cables with a section suitable to tolerate the currents handled within the system, as
detailed in the table below (values are expressed in A):

5KVA 7,5KVA 10KVA

A A A
Phase – Neutral Input UPS 25 40 55
Phase – Neutral Output UPS 25 40 55

Date of issue: 2005-02-18
Connect, in the first place, the ground cable of the input mains to the yellow-green terminal 5, shown
in Figure 3.

The mains input phase must be connected to terminal 1 of the magnetothermal switch 11, while the
input neutral line must be connected to terminal 2 of the magnetothermal switch I1.

The output neutral lead must be connected to terminal 4, while the phase must be connected to
terminal 3.

All input and output phases must be fitted in place with cable straps A, B and C shown in Figure 3.

The UPS has three fuse disconnecting switches (SZ1, SZ2 and SZ3 shown in Figure 3), which are
housed in the left section of the rear UPS panel. These disconnecting switches section the batteries
when the UPS is not running and enable the connection to external battery sets, when present.
These disconnecting switches have a conductor pipe and an overcurrent protection consisting in a fast-
acting fuse, 35FE (35A 660Vdc), placed inside the UPS.

NEVER CLOSE THE DISCONNECTING SWITCHES WITH LED “LD1” (Figure 6) OFF TO
AVOID DAMAGING THE PROTECTION FUSE.
WHEN USING BATTERY DISCONNECTING SWITCHES, CAREFULLY FOLLOW START-UP
INSTRUCTIONS.

When the unit is operated with internal batteries, only disconnecting switch SZ2 is used, because
disconnecting switches SZ1 and SZ3 MUST NOT CONTAIN CONDUCTOR PIPE.

Connection of the battery cubicle (external)

The battery cubicle has two fuse disconnecting switches SZ1 and SZ2 (that house the neutral lines),
two connection terminals for the power and ground cables GND, M1 and M2 and two fuse terminals
F1 and F2 (Figure 8).

ALL CABLE CONNECTION OPERATIONS MUST BE PERFORMED WHEN THE UPS IS OFF
AND THE SYSTEMS IS DISCONNECTED.

Connect a ground cable with an adequate section from the UPS to the battery cubicle.
CAREFULLY OBSERVING THE POLARITY OF THE CABLES, connect terminals M1 and M2 on
the battery cubicle to disconnecting switches SZ1 and SZ3 on the UPS, as shown in Figure 9.
Fuse terminals F1 and F2 are used only if the UPS has no internal batteries. In this case, assembly
specification SM215 is supplied along with the related instructions.

NEVER CLOSE THE DISCONNECTING SWITCHES WITH LED “LD1” (Figure 6) OFF TO
AVOID DAMAGING THE PROTECTION FUSE.

To insert the disconnecting switches of the battery cubicle, carefully follow the start-up instructions
relating the handling of the disconnecting switch SZ2 (when the instructions say "close disconnecting
switch SZ2", it is first necessary to close disconnecting switches SZ1 and SZ2 on the battery cubicle
and then disconnecting switches SZ1 and SZ3 on the UPS).

Connection of signal lines

For information on the connection of signal lines, see paragraph "Description and connection of the
signaling systems".
To connect the EPO circuit, see paragraph "Operation of the emergency device (EPO).

OPERATION
First start-up
ATTENTION! THE OPERATIONS DESCRIBED IN THIS PARAGRAPH MUST BE
PERFORMED ONLY FOR THE FIRST START-UP OF THE UPS. TO ORDINARILY TURN THE
UPS ON AND OFF, SEE PARAGRAPH "Turning the UPS on and off".

• Verify that disconnecting switch SZ2, shown in Figure 3, is open.

• Close switch I1 (Figure 3): An intermittent acoustic alarm is issued.
• When the acoustic alarm turns off, wait lighting of LED “LD1” (Figure 6) before closing the
disconnecting switch SZ2 shown in Figure 3.
• In this phase, the UPS is charging the batteries but the load is not yet supplied (LED 2 "Normal
operation" and LED 3 "Load supplied from mains" (Figure 3) flash for three seconds).
• Keep the blue button 1 (Figure 2) pressed for about 1 second: an intermittent acoustic alarm is
issued.
• The alarm stops when the load is supplied normally.

Turning the UPS on and off

Turning the UPS off

• Keep the blue button 1 (Figure 2) pressed for about 5 seconds: an intermittent acoustic alarm is
issued.
• Wait for the acoustic alarm to silence.
From this point onwards no output voltage is present, although the battery is maintained in charge.
(LED 2 "Normal operation" and LED 3 "Load supplied from mains" (Figure 2) flash every three
seconds).

NB: ALWAYS USE THIS SHUTDOWN SYSTEM BECAUSE IT ENABLES THE MAINTAIN
THE BATTERIES IN CHARGE ALTHOUGH IT DISCONNECTS THE LOADS.

Turning the UPS on

• Keep the blue button 1 (Figure 2) pressed for about 1 second: an intermittent acoustic alarm is
issued.
• The alarm stops when the output voltage is present.

Shutting the UPS down

Starting from the UPS in ordinary operating conditions:
• Keep the blue button 1 (Figure 2) pressed for about 5 second: an intermittent acoustic alarm is
issued.
When the acoustic alarm turns off, wait lighting of LED “LD1” (Figure 6)
From this point onwards no output voltage is present, although the battery is maintained in charge.
(LED 2 "Normal operation" and LED 3 "Load supplied from mains" (Figure 2) flash every three
seconds).
• Open the disconnecting switch SZ2, shown in Figure 3, by removing the conductor pipe.
• Open switch I1 (Figure 3):
• The UPS shuts down after about 20 seconds.

NB: DO NOT USE THIS PROCEDURE TO TURN THE UPS OFF TEMPORARILY.

IV122E Rev. 014 Siel S.p.A. Page 10 of 17+ 9 Figures + FR

Date of issue: 2005-02-18
Use of the bypass switch
The rear of the UPS houses a bypass switch (Figure 6), which forces the supply of the loads to be
switched from the local mains to the inverter.
Attention: a power failure in this condition disconnects the loads from the supply!
(In order to try maintaining the loads supplied, the UPS will supply energy through the inverter).
The switching of the load is confirmed by the lighting of LED 3 "Load supplied by mains" on the
control panel shown in Figure 2.

External bypass board (optional)

If an external bypass board, similar to the one shown in Figure 7, is present, it is possible to
completely insulate the UPS and maintain the loads powered.
In this condition, it is possible to perform extraordinary maintenance operations or even replace the
whole unit without disconnecting it from the mains.
To perform the bypass with the UPS working in ordinary mode, it is sufficient to move the switch
shown in Figure 6 from position "Load on UPS" to "Load on mains".
The external bypass can be enabled by closing switch I3 and opening switch I2, shown in Figure 7.
At this point it is possible to disconnect the UPS by following the instructions given in paragraph
"Shutting the UPS down" and by opening the switch on the bypass board (Figure 7).

To resume the operation of the UPS, close switch I1, shown in Figure 7, and follow the instructions
provided in paragraph "First start-up", maintaining the switch shown in Figure 6 in position "Load on
mains". The load can be repowered from the UPS mains by closing switch I2 and opening switch I3,
shown in Figure 7.
To complete the operation, move the switch shown in Figure 6 from the "Load on mains" to the "Load
on UPS" position.

Operation of the emergency device (EPO)

The UPS has an electronic emergency device that is able to simultaneously stop the rectifier, the
battery charger, the inverter and the static changeover switch in order to allow the load to be powered
in emergency conditions.
This device can be started remotely by pressing the related emergency button (normally closed button),
situated close to the load to be protected. This is connected to terminals 6 and 7 that are shown in
Figure 3.
These terminals must be short circuited when the EPO is not used.
It is very important to take into account that this circuit stops the whole UPS, disconnecting also the
load from the mains
After it has been started, the device maintains the alarm condition, which will completely disconnect
the load.
To resume the operation of the UPS, it is necessary to follow the instructions provided in the related
paragraphs.

FRONT PANEL
LEDs
Figure 2 shows the LEDs available.

Led bar (5 in Figure 2)

Operation in Stand-By Mode: the first green LED of the LED 5 bar is permanently on. In this
condition, the UPS recharges the batteries but provides no energy to the loads.

Operation with power supplied by the mains (Led 2 on): LED bar 5 shows the level of load being
supplied.
Green LEDs indicate the regular load, yellow LEDs indicate an overload while the red one indicates
that an high overload condition has been detected.
The occurrence of an overload condition (yellow LEDs on) results in the loads being powered by the
mains after 10 seconds. This situation is maintained for 4 minutes after the overload condition has
been removed.
The occurrence of a high overload condition (red LED on) switches the supply of the load to the
mains. This situation is maintained for 4 minutes after the overload condition has been removed.
The UPS obviously turns off, after the set interval of time, if there is no power on the mains.
The overload condition is signaled by an intermittent alarm (Figure 2A), that is silenced after the
overload condition is removed.

Operation with load supplied by the mains (Led 3 on): LED bar 5 indicates the level of load powered,
as if the mains power were present.

Operation with no power from mains (from battery) (led 4 on): LED bar 5 shows the residual
autonomy of the batteries.
Depending on the autonomy of the UPS, the lighted LED turns off progressively starting from the first
green LED (100% of autonomy) and ending with the red one (10% autonomy).
After the first green LED is turned off, the system issues an acoustic alarm to signal a battery pre-
alarm condition (Figure 2A), which means that the UPS will be unable to guarantee power to the loads
within a few minutes. The UPS turns off as soon as the battery charge ends. The unit restarts
automatically as soon as power is restored.

Operation of the EPO circuit: all the LEDs on the front panel light alternatively to visually signal that
the EPO system has been enabled. Its enabling is also signaled by an acoustic alarm, shown in Figure
2A.

Normal operation (2 in Figure 2)

The LED flashes once every three seconds together with LED 3 to signal that the Stand-By Mode has
been enabled. In this situation, the UPS guarantees the recharge of the batteries but does not power the
load.
The LED flashes during start and stop operations (see "Operating instructions").
The LED turns on permanently when the UPS is running in normal mode.

Load powered from mains (3 in Figure 2)

The LED flashes once every three seconds together with LED 2 to signal that the Stand-By Mode has
been enabled. In this situation, the UPS guarantees the recharge of the batteries but does not power the
load.

The LED flashes during start and stop operations (see "Operating instructions").

IV122E Rev. 014 Siel S.p.A. Page 12 of 17+ 9 Figures + FR

Date of issue: 2005-02-18
The LED turns on permanently if the load is powered from the mains (see paragraph related to the use
of the bypass switch).

Battery mode (4 in Figure 2)

The LED turns on permanently when no power is present on the mains (Operation from battery): this
situation is signaled by the generation of a triple acoustic alarm, as shown in Figure 2A.

Note: when the UPS in running in INTERACTIVE mode, LEDs 2-3-4, shown in Figure 2, should turn
on simultaneously. This transient condition, which can last up to about 30 seconds, indicates that the
UPS is returning to its ordinary operating status.

Acoustic alarms
The acoustic alarms generated during the different operating modes are shown in Figure 2A.

Functions of the button

The blue button (1 in Figure 2) can be used to perform the following operations:
• Each selection of the button, in normal operating mode, simultaneously lights all the LEDs on the
front panel (LED test) and silences the acoustic alarm, if active.
• The selection of the button for about two seconds enables the supply to the load.
NB: the gradual start-up procedure requires approximately 30 seconds. Any button pressed in this
phase can only silence the acoustic alarm.
• The selection of the button for about 5 seconds starts the UPS shutdown procedure.
• At the end of this procedure, the load is disconnected, but the batteries are correctly maintained in
charge (see paragraph "Turning the UPS on and off").
NB: the shutdown procedure requires about 20 seconds; any button pressed in this phase can only
silence the acoustic alarm.

DESCRIPTION OF THE REMOTE SIGNALING SYSTEMS and of their
connections
All the signals exchanged by the UPS and the outside are accessible on the rear of the UPS (Figure 4).

1. One of the methods to monitor the operation of the UPS consists in reading the position of the
contacts of some relays (these contacts are insulated from the electronic circuits of the UPS and
from one another). The status of these relays can be acquired by means of a special cup connector
DB9, which enables to monitor four relays at a time (CN1 in Figure 4).
The DB9 cup connector, (CN1 in Figure 4), can also be connected to a PC that can monitor the
status of the UPS and turn it off (shutdown), if equipped with appropriate software applications.

2. For a more complete monitoring, it is necessary to use two optical fiber connectors (TX and RX in
Figure 4), which enable to transmit to a PC, with special software, all the signals and
measurements related to the status of the UPS (the status of the UPS can also be controlled
remotely by SIEL's technical assistance by means of a special option).

3. Terminal boards M1, M2 (Figure 4) are used for the EPO (Emergency Power Off) circuit and to
force the switching to the mains or for internal synchronization.

Description of connector CN1

Connector CN1 is an insulated communication port that cleans the contacts. These are generally used
by the software applications employed to monitor and control the UPS (for further information,
contact SIEL S.p.A.).
The closing (or opening) of a contact is equivalent to the occurrence of an event similar to the one
show in Figure 5.
The UPS can be shut down by injecting 10mAcc current as input to pin 6 and as output to pin 8.
The insulation between the contacts is suitable only for voltages below 48V AC (60 Vdc). These
contacts should never be used for changeover operations.
If there are no dangerous potentials on the connector, perform all connections when the UPS is off, the
battery is disconnected and the main is not powered.

Description of optic fibers connectors

Transmission via optical fibers is the ideal solution to safely send data over long distances, when there
is a lot of noise on the mains (industrial environments, closeness to transmitters, impossibility of
separating the signal from the power cables, etc).

SIEL S.p.A. may supply special repeaters/amplifiers if data have to be transmitted over distances
above the maximum distance permitted (about 100m).

Connectors TX and RX, shown in Figure 4, are used for the optical fiber connection to a computer that
must be equipped with a software that enables to graphically display all the signals and measurements
sent by the system, maintain an accurate historical file of the events and enable the control of the
machine.
Besides ordering a software of this kind, it is also necessary to purchase the optical fiber and a
converter from optical fiber to RS232 (available from SIEL S.p.A.), which have to be installed next to
the PC.
Alternatively, it is also possible to install an interface card in the computer in order to be able to
communicate directly with optical fibers.

A single converter can be used to simultaneously monitor several UPS units, both with an external
converter and an internal PC card.

Customers wishing to process the UPS signals and measurements with their own software, must write
to SIEL S.p.A. to request the authorization to use its communication protocol.
Even in this case, it is necessary to remember to order the optical fiber and the fiber-RS232 converter.

To perform the necessary connections, it is sufficient to connect the flying male connector of the fiber
into the female connectors of the card until they click in place, which confirms the locking of the
connector.
Connector RX receives the commands from the PC, while connector TX transmits data to the it.

Very few precautions should be observed during connection and cabling operations.
1 – Always match flying connectors with fixed ones of the same color to avoid confusing the receiver
with the transmitter and affecting transmission operations.
2 – Verify that the optical fiber is not bent in curve with a radius below 10 cm, as the reflection of
light inside the fiber could be impaired to the point of interrupting communications.
If the bend has not damaged the fiber, it is sufficient to reduce the angle to restore ordinary operating
conditions.

If there are no dangerous potentials next to the optical fibers connectors, perform all connections when
the UPS is off, the battery is disconnected and the main is not powered.
