Name of experiment: Study on different parts of carding machine and
its functions.
Carding machine:
Main parts:
1. Feed Table: Starting point for raw fiber.
2. Chute: Transports fibers to the carding machine.
3. Feed Roller: Controls fiber feed into the machine.
4. Taker-In: Opens and cleans fiber tufts.
5. Cylinder: Main component for carding and aligning fibers.
6. Flat Bar (Flats): Removes short fibers and impurities.
7. Flat Cleaner: Cleans the flats of accumulated waste.
8. Doffer: Transfers carded fibers from the cylinder.
9. Doffer Comb: Strips fibers from the doffer roller.
10. 1st Trumpet: Guides carded web into a condensed form.
11. Calendar roller: Apply calendering mechanism.
12. Sliver Guide: Aligns fibers towards the coiling mechanism.
13. 2nd Trumpet: Further consolidates the sliver.
14. Coiler Roller: Forms sliver into a continuous coil.
15. Sliver Tube: Channels sliver into the coiler can.
16. Can Plate: Supports and positions the sliver can.
Working principle: As fibers journey through a carding machine, each part
plays a crucial role in transforming raw material into a processed sliver. It all starts
at the feed table, where fibers are placed, ready for processing. From there, they
slide down the chute, guided towards the machine's interior. The feed roller
controls their entry, ensuring a steady flow. Inside, the taker-in begins the cleaning
process, removing impurities and separating fibers. The cylinder takes over,
aligning and straightening the fibers with the assistance of flat bars. Any remaining
debris is cleared by the flat cleaner, maintaining efficiency. The doffer then
transfers the carded fibers to the next stage, forming a continuous web. Trumpets
guide the web into a condensed form, ready for further processing. Calendar roller
Apply calendering mechanism. And then the sliver guide ensures proper alignment
towards the coiling mechanism, where the coiler roller forms it into a continuous
coil. Finally, the delivery roller ensures consistent sliver delivery into cans
supported by the can plate, completing the journey from raw fiber to processed
sliver, ready for subsequent textile production steps.
Conclusion: In this experiment, we have learnt about carding machines and its
functions. These machines play a pivotal role in the initial stages of textile
production, effectively preparing raw cotton fibers for further processing. We have
done this this experiment in our lab room. So, this experiment is not enough to
increase our knowledge about carding machines. Cause our carding machine is a
demo machine.
