Project Management Calculation
1) Expected Duration Calculations
The formula for expected duration (TE) is given by:
TE = (T_O + 4T_M + T_P) / 6
Where:
- T_O is the optimistic time
- T_M is the most likely time
- T_P is the pessimistic time
Expected duration (TE) for each activity:
1. Activity A (1-2): TE_A = (2 + 4(4) + 9) / 6 = 4.5
2. Activity B (1-3): TE_B = (5 + 4(8) + 14) / 6 = 8.5
3. Activity C (1-4): TE_C = (4 + 4(10) + 13) / 6 = 9.5
4. Activity D (2-5): TE_D = (4 + 4(7) + 10) / 6 = 7
5. Activity E (3-5): TE_E = (11 + 4(14) + 20) / 6 = 14.5
6. Activity F (4-6): TE_F = (9 + 4(13) + 16) / 6 = 12.83
7. Activity G (6-7): TE_G = (2 + 4(4) + 6) / 6 = 4
8. Activity H (5-7): TE_H = (1 + 4(3) + 6) / 6 = 3.17
2) Network Diagram
The network diagram can be drawn based on the paths given, with nodes representing
activities and edges showing the expected durations:
3) Critical Path
To find the critical path, the total duration for each path through the network is calculated:
- Path 1-2-5-7: TE_A + TE_D + TE_H = 4.5 + 7 + 3.17 = 14.67
- Path 1-3-5-7: TE_B + TE_E + TE_H = 8.5 + 14.5 + 3.17 = 26.17
- Path 1-4-6-7: TE_C + TE_F + TE_G = 9.5 + 12.83 + 4 = 26.33
The critical path is **1-4-6-7** with a duration of **26.33 units**.
