Briefly describe the reason for the grant application
In short, the reason I'm asking for help is because I grew up loving bees. It makes me love
beekeeping and I started doing it traditionally, starting with one hive that I tied, so I found it
useful, so I continued to expand the beekeeping. but due to the lack of resources it did not
allow me to leave the tradition which does not help me to increase production. That is why I am
asking for support to increase production by using technology to process it and to move from
the traditional to the development of modern tools in the field of using technology and
providing employment to many people.

FARM/AGRIBUSINESS OWNERSHIP
Describe the ownership of your farm/agribusiness into details
My name is Patrick TWUMVIKANE and I am the owner of the project but I have an employee
responsible for how the project works and develops. I started young in 2015 when I was in my
first year of high school and I started trying this beekeeping project. Later I came to see its
benefits because I helped parents with young children to find honey to use as medicine for
these children, I started to withdraw a little money and when I reached the second year I
thought of how to add more baskets and I started learning to weave them and I met others
who paid me 500 Rwf for one basket. If you don't see it and agree, I will ask the employee to
pay me. so it expands and I continue to increase the breeding of bees until I reach 12 hives
containing bees and producing a lot of honey. I continued to do the project and it continues
while I am at the University of Rwanda and the project I am continuing is the reason why I
want to expand it when I get the ability. I also registered with the government because I did
not have the means to register due to the lack of funds to buy modern equipment and to
expand modern equipment including honey processing machines, clothes, and even equipment.
Total amount of grant being requested (Max 976,460,157 RF)
The amount of funding requested is six million Rwandan francs (6,000,000Rwf) which will be
used to expand the activities of the project.
GRANT PROPOSAL
Please give a full description of the proposed activities for which the grant will
be used.
The grant will be used to fund various activities aimed at establishing and maintaining a
successful beekeeping project.
These activities can include but are not limited to:
Acquiring Beehives and Equipment: One of the primary uses of the grant would be to
purchase beehives, protective gear for beekeepers, tools for hive management, and other
necessary equipment for beekeeping operations.
Bee Colony Acquisition: Funds may be allocated towards acquiring bee colonies either
through purchasing packaged bees or capturing swarms. This is essential for initiating the
beekeeping project.
Training and Education: A portion of the grant can be utilized for training sessions and
educational programs for beekeepers involved in the project. This can include workshops
on hive management, bee health, pest control, and sustainable beekeeping practices.
Hive Maintenance and Management: The grant can support ongoing hive maintenance
activities such as regular inspections, disease prevention measures, feeding supplements
when necessary, and general upkeep of the hives.
Harvesting and Processing Honey: Funds may also be used for harvesting honey from
the hives, processing it into marketable products, packaging, and labeling for sale or
distribution.
Marketing and Sales: Part of the grant can be allocated towards marketing efforts to
promote the honey products produced through the beekeeping project. This can include
creating branding materials, setting up sales channels, and participating in local markets
or events.
Community Engagement: The project can involve community outreach initiatives to
raise awareness about the importance of bees, pollination, and sustainable agriculture
practices. This can include educational workshops, school visits, or public demonstrations.
Research and Development: Some funds may be dedicated to research projects
related to bee health, habitat conservation, or innovative beekeeping techniques that
could benefit the sustainability of the project in the long term.
By strategically allocating the grant towards these proposed activities, a comprehensive
beekeeping project can be established with a focus on sustainability, education,
community involvement, and economic viability.

Sustainability Plan
(Briefly explain what is being done to ensure that your operations is self- sufficient
and profitable over time)
Sustainability Plan for Beekeeping Business Project
In order to ensure the sustainability and profitability of a beekeeping project over time,
several key strategies can be implemented:
Diversification of Products: One way to enhance the sustainability of a beekeeping
operation is by diversifying the products offered. In addition to honey, beekeepers can
also focus on producing beeswax, propolis, royal jelly, and pollen. By expanding the
range of products, beekeepers can tap into multiple revenue streams, reducing
dependency on a single product.
Value-Added Products: Creating value-added products from beekeeping resources
can significantly increase profitability. For example, producing beeswax candles, beauty
products using honey and beeswax, or health supplements containing royal jelly can
fetch higher prices in the market compared to raw honey alone.
Pollination Services: Offering pollination services to farmers can be another source of
income for beekeepers. Many crops rely on pollinators like bees for successful yields.
By renting out hives for pollination purposes, beekeepers can generate additional
revenue while also contributing to agricultural sustainability.
Education and Training: Investing in education and training programs for beekeepers
can improve the efficiency of operations and enhance overall productivity. By staying
updated on best practices in beekeeping, beekeepers can optimize their processes,
reduce costs, and increase profitability in the long run.
Strategic Partnerships: Collaborating with local businesses, farmers’ markets,
restaurants, or retailers can help beekeepers reach a wider customer base and secure
consistent sales channels. Building strong partnerships within the community can
provide stability and ensure steady demand for beekeeping products.
Environmental Stewardship: Practicing sustainable beekeeping methods that
prioritize the health of the bees and their natural habitats is crucial for long-term
success. By promoting biodiversity, avoiding pesticide use near hives, and supporting
conservation efforts, beekeepers can safeguard their operations against environmental
threats.
Market Research and Analysis: Conducting regular market research to understand
consumer preferences, trends in the industry, and potential competitors is essential for
maintaining a competitive edge in the market. Adapting to changing market dynamics
and consumer demands can help beekeepers adjust their strategies for sustained
profitability.
