Basically,a crime is an unlawful act that is punishable by law.

By Mpenzi
mobilising his tribesmen armed with crude weapons from ‘Anonymous Crew’
to chase away his tribes whom he believes did not vote for him, he commits
a terrorism. Terrorism basically involves a terrorist act as described by
section 2 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 30 of 2012 which defines a
terrorist act as an act or threat of action which, among other things, includes
the following:

• the use of violence against a person;

• endangerment of the life of a person, other than the person committing the
action;

• a serious risk to the health or safety of a person, other than the person
committing the action.

Terrorism according to the Black’s Law Dictionary ,10 th edition is described

as the use of threat or violence to intimidate or cause panic especially as a
means of achieving a political end.

Mpenzi therefore commits a terrorist act as he mobilizes use of crude

weapons that lead to the death of 500 people and grievous injuries.

FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE CRIME OF TERRORISM

1Unemployment

Lack of jobs to accommodate the youths and engage their minds in

constructive ideas amounts to terrorism as youths tend to join terrorist
groups as survival means to acquire money so as to sustain their daily needs
and this leads to commission of unlawful acts which then results to massive
loss of lives. Also, population pressure most especially in urban areas may
result to unemployment as job opportunities become less and therefore not
able to accommodate everyone thereby leading to joining of terror groups by
the youth so as to gain monetary benefits for survival and meeting their
basic needs

2)Individual reasons

Peer pressure among the youth can lead to joining of terror groups which
leads to terrorism as the youths are increasingly under the influence of social
media and fear being secluded if they reject joining their peers in activities
that they engage in and this increasingly leads to joining of terror groups
than then lead to an increase in terrorism rates of a country.

3)Political differences

Conflicts by political parties most precisely during the voting process results
to the crime of terrorism as contestation to the winning team in the voting
process results to rivalry which causes the losing party to recruit terror
groups to attack on the winning party as a form of revenge. This results to an
uprise in terrorism attacks as those recruited gain monetary benefits from
the attacks and are therefore motivated to engage in unlawful acts which
lead to loss of lives and destruction and damage to property. Resolving
political differences through dialogues in effect can reduce the prevalence of
terrorism as political stability is achieved thereby fostering peace and
security in the country.

4)Corruption
Security personnel serve as a fueling taskforce for terrorism by taking bribes
for terror groups and allowing them to perform terror attacks in a country.
The police are tasked with the function of enforcement of the law
