INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

The course on “civil engineering concept” introduce get familiarized with the scope and
importance of civil engineering sub-divisions. Introduce the preliminary concepts of
surveying. Acquire preliminary knowledge on transportation and its importance in nation’s
economy. Introduction to basic civil engineering materials and construction techniques. Get
familiarized with the importance of quality and advances in civil engineering.

Classification and selections of site for a Building-Components of building, Soil, General
type of soil, Foundation- Functions, General types of Foundation, Surveying and
measurement.

Building materials -Stone, Properties and uses of stones, Plain and Reinforced cement
concrete-grade and properties and uses, Flooring- types, Roofs -Types of roofs - weathering
course, Bridges and Dams: Purpose, stress and strain properties of materials.
