Basic Swimming Course Syllabus
Course Title: Basic Swimming
Duration: 18 Weeks
Class Time: 4 hours per week
Course Outcome: By the end of this course, students will have developed basic swimming
skills, including confidence and safety in the water, and the ability to swim the four basic
strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
Week 1: Introduction and Water Safety
Learning Objectives:
      Understand basic water safety rules.
      Learn pool etiquette and safety guidelines.
      Get familiar with the pool environment.
Activities:
      Introduction to the course and instructor.
      Pool tour and safety briefing.
      Basic breathing and floating exercises.
Week 2: Breath Control and Floating
Learning Objectives:
      Learn proper breathing techniques.
      Develop skills in floating on the front and back.
Activities:
      Breath control exercises.
      Front and back floating practice.
      Introduction to treading water.
Week 3: Kicking Techniques
Learning Objectives:
      Learn flutter kicking and dolphin kicking techniques.
Activities:
      Dry land kicking drills.
      In-water flutter kick practice with kickboards.
      Introduction to dolphin kicks.
Week 4: Arm Movement Basics
Learning Objectives:
      Understand and practice basic arm movements for freestyle and backstroke.
Activities:
      Dry land arm movement drills.
      In-water practice of arm movements.
      Coordination exercises with kicking and arm movements.
Week 5: Freestyle Stroke
Learning Objectives:
      Develop the basics of the freestyle stroke.
Activities:
      Freestyle drills focusing on breathing, kicking, and arm movements.
      Practice swimming short distances using freestyle.
      Feedback and correction sessions.
Week 6: Backstroke Basics
Learning Objectives:
      Learn the basic techniques of backstroke.

      Backstroke arm and leg coordination drills.
      Practice backstroke with and without kickboards.
      Introduction to flip turns.
Week 7: Breaststroke Introduction

Week 15: Starts and Turns

      Learn proper techniques for starts and turns for each stroke.

      Practice starts from the block and turns for all four strokes.
      Drills focusing on streamlining and powerful push-offs.
      Simulated race scenarios.
Week 16: Building Endurance
Learning Objectives:
      Improve swimming endurance and overall fitness.
Activities:
      Interval training sets for each stroke.
      Combination sets (e.g., 100m IM: 25m of each stroke).
      Focus on maintaining technique under fatigue.
Week 17: Mock Swim Meet
Learning Objectives:
      Experience a simulated swim meet to apply all learned skills.
Activities:
      Warm-up and race preparation.
      Timed swims for all four strokes.
      Relay races and individual time trials.
Week 18: Review and Graduation

      Review all strokes and techniques.
      Celebrate achievements and provide individual feedback.

Assessment and Evaluation:
   Continuous feedback during practice sessions.
   Mid-term skill assessment (Week 9).
   Final skill assessment during mock swim meet (Week 17).
