AND EQUIPMENT BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE FAN COWL DOORS. THE FAN COWL DOORS
CAN GET DAMAGED IF THEY HIT AN OBJECT.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the ground service network is energized
Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-801.
(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position at access
door 811.
(3) Make sure that access door 811 is open Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-801.
(4) Make sure that the protective door of AC/DC emergency power-center 740VU is open.

B. Make sure that the circuit breaker(s) that follow(s) is (are) open, safetied and tagged. Use the SAFETY

OUTSIDE BEFORE PERSONS GO BETWEEN THE COWLS. THE FAN COWL DOORS CAN
CAUSE INJURY IF THEY ARE NOT HELD.
CAUTION: YOU MUST NOT TWIST THE FAN COWL DOOR WHEN YOU OPEN/CLOSE IT. HOLD THE
DOOR AT ITS FORWARD AND AFT EDGE. IF THE DOOR TWISTS, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR AT
THE TOP FORWARD EDGE, AND/OR THE DOOR CAN TOUCH THE ENGINE AND CAUSE
DAMAGE.

A. Close the fan cowl doors.
Pre SB71-E107
(1) Lower the fan cowl doors
(a) Hold the fan cowl doors at the forward and aft edges. Disengage the first locking sleeve
(18) (turn and pull the sleeve (18) as shown by the arrows) at each rod (1) and lower the
fan cowl doors to the middle position.
(b) Make sure that the forward and aft edges of the fan cowl door are held so that it does not
twist.
1 If the door twists, the fan cowl door and engine could get damaged.
(c) Hold the fan cowl doors. Disengage the second locking sleeve (17) (turn and pull the
sleeve (17) as shown by the arrows) at each rod (1) and lower the fan cowl doors.
(d) Make sure that the forward and aft edges of the fan cowl door are held so that it does not
twist.
1 If the door twists, the fan cowl door and engine could get damaged.

(2) Lower the fan cowl doors
(a) Hold the fan cowl doors at the forward and aft edges. Disengage the locking sleeve (16)
(turn and pull the sleeve (16) as shown by the arrows) at each rod (1) and lower the fan
cowl doors.
(b) Make sure that the forward and aft edges of the fan cowl door are held so that it does not
twist.
1 If the door twists, the fan cowl door and engine could get damaged.

(3) Hold the cowls, from the outside at the forward and aft edges and disconnect the hold open rods
(1).
(a) Pull the release collar (2) away from the support bracket (4) or (5) and move the rod (1) to
the fan cowl door.
(b) Attach the free end of the rod (1) to the receiver bracket (6). Pull the release collar (2)
away from the receiver bracket (6) and then release it to secure the rod (1).
(4) Close the fan cowl doors and engage the four latches
WARNING: YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT ALL FOUR LATCHES ARE FULLY ENGAGED
AND CLOSED.
(a) Close the fan cowl doors and engage the four latches (3).
(b) Make sure that the forward and aft edges of the fan cowl door are held so that it does not
twist as it is closed.

1 If the door twists, the fan cowl door and engine could get damaged.
(c) Make sure that the fan cowl door is closed carefully and is not released until the door is
flush with the supporting structure.
(d) Close the four latches (3) in the sequence that follows:
- 1, 3, 2, 4.
(e) Make sure that the trigger of each latch is not more than 0.025 in. (0.6350 mm) from flush
of the latch lever.
(5) Engage the deflection restraints.
(a) Engage the deflection restraints on the leading edge of the fan cowl door in the sequence
that follows:
- 5, 6.

(3) Hold the cowls, from the outside at the forward and aft edges and disconnect the hold open rods
(1).
(a) Pull the release collar (2) away from the support bracket (4) or (5) and move the rod (1) to
the fan cowl door.
(b) Attach the free end of the rod (1) to the receiver bracket (6). Pull the release collar (2)
away from the receiver bracket (6) and then release it to secure the rod (1).
(4) Remove the FCD FLAG (98F71203010000) from the latch keeper clevis.
(5) Close the fan cowl doors and engage the four latches
WARNING: YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT ALL FOUR LATCHES ARE FULLY ENGAGED
AND CLOSED.
(a) Close the fan cowl doors and engage the four latches (3).
(b) Make sure that the forward and aft edges of the fan cowl door are held so that it does not
twist as it is closed.
1 If the door twists, the fan cowl door and engine could get damaged.
(c) Make sure that the fan cowl door is closed carefully and is not released until the door is
flush with the supporting structure.
(d) Close the four latches (3) in the sequence that follows:
- 1, 3, 2, 4.
(e) Make sure that the trigger of each latch is not more than 0.025 in. (0.6350 mm) from flush
of the latch lever.
(6) Engage the deflection restraints.
(a) Engage the deflection restraints on the leading edge of the fan cowl door in the sequence
that follows:
- 5, 6.
(7) Return the FCD FLAG (98F71203010000) in the cockpit storage.
