Assignment-Project-13

Group Work & Demonstration on Networking & its application

Objective – At the end of this project, the student will acquire skills to set a
Network and implement Network applications.

Project Insights –

1. This project involves Group work and Demonstration.


2. Divide your class in 4 groups.
3. Each group must have unique information of about 2 to 3 pages covering the
topics allocated to them. Allocate at least 1 week to complete this task
4. Finally, the group will demonstrate their activity to other groups.

Hints (from Facilitator to Students) –

1.1 Since students are already aware about Windows 10, Linux and Networking
environment, in this project they should be able to
• Demonstrate application of free Network chatting software
• Demonstrate network map software
• Demonstrate implementation of a shared printer, ICS in a LAB
environment of 3-4 PCs
• Demonstrate implementation of virtual network gaming
(multiplayer).
1.2 Facilitator must involve students to work on thought points like
• Importance of Linux in various IT segments like banking, stock market
etc.

2 Assign tasks to each group as below,


2.1 First group should be assigned the topic to demonstrate a network chat (IM
– Instant Messaging) using software
• Use the link, http://lanmsngr.sourceforge.net/
• Use 2-3 networked PCs for demonstration
• Note, participation of group members is very important in these
activities.
• Students in this group must document the process and results.

2.2 Second group is assigned to work on demonstration of network map


software
• Use link, www.solarwinds.com/network-topology-mapper
• Use the complete Arjuna Lab can be used for this project
• Students will face some issues here, they must learn to troubleshoot
the various error codes generated during this process.
• Document the process and demonstrate the results.

2.3 Third Group is assigned to “Demonstrate implementation of a shared


printer, ICS in a LAB environment of 3-4 PCs”
• Students will form a test lab environment of 3-4 PCs, with Windows
Operating system and share printer and internet connection, such that
it is accessible to all the computers
• Note the errors and troubleshooting steps during this process
• Document the process and demonstrate the results.

2.4 Fourth Group should be assigned to demonstrate virtual (multiplayer)


network gaming environment on LAN.
• Use the link, https://www.quora.com/How-can-I-play-multiplayer-in-counter-
strike-source-through-LAN
• Facilitator must note that, student must present a solution and
network diagram showing the implementation of Counter strike
server and client mode. Preferably use PCs and mobile phone
multiplayer environment all connected on Wi-Fi or LAN environments.
• Document the process and mention the port numbers configured
during this process.
2.5 Facilitator has to collect the documented project steps and then every group
must demonstrate their group work to the class.
