3. Program description
The Master’s Degree in Teaching Portuguese and English in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and
Secondary Education, qualifies for teaching in recruitment groups 300 (Portuguese) and 330 (English),
under the terms of the Legal Regime of Professional Qualification for Teaching in Education Pre-
school and in Basic and Secondary Education. The curricular structure includes four areas of training:
Teaching Area (Portuguese and English), Specific Didactics, General Educational Area and Initiation
to Educational Practice, which take the form of several curricular units to be taught over four
semesters, on a working basis. Supervised Teaching Practice (PES) takes place in primary and
secondary schools, which have protocols with the University of Évora, providing the student with real
contact with teaching practice. The PES is the subject of a report, of an investigative nature, subject
to approval in public tests. This Master’s degree offers solid training designed to deal with current
curricular challenges in the areas of Portuguese and English, taking advantage of digital technologies.
4. Career opportunities
Graduates with a Master’s degree in Teaching Portuguese and English in the 3rd cycle of Basic
Education and Secondary Education are professionally qualified to teach in recruitment groups 300
(Portuguese) and 330 (English), an essential condition for performance of teaching activity, in accor-
dance with the Legal Regime of Professional Qualification for Teaching in Pre-school Education and
Basic and Secondary Education.

7. General conditions of access and admission
i Legal conditions for access to the cycle of studies leading to the master degree
Those who meet the following conditions may apply to the cycle of studies that leads to the
master degree:
Holders of the bachelor degree or legal equivalent;
Holders of a foreign academic degree dully recognised as satisfying the objectives identical to
the bachelor degree by the relevant scientific body of the higher education institution they
wish to be admitted to;
Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae that is recognized as
attesting to the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the relevant scientific body of
the higher education institution they wish to be admitted to.
ii Conditions of access to the cycle of studies at the Universidade de Évora
On the application date, the undergraduate students must satisfy conditions that guarantee the
conclusion of their undergraduate degree until the 30th of October of the admission year. The
admission and enrollment of these students is conditioned on the conclusion of the degree until
this date, and the enrollment is canceled if the student does not complete the degree within that
period
During the first application phase, students who have a maximum of 6 curricular units or 36 ECTS
missing for conclusion of their degree can apply for the 2nd cycle; in the 2nd application phase
students can apply if they have at most 3 curricular units missing and in the 3rd application phase
if they have at most one curricular unit missing
The previous condition does not apply to students with a curriculum that reveals professional
or scientific experience, which can be recognized by the competent scientific body, as attesting
the students ability to carry out the masters degree/post-graduation, provided that the student
required that recognition in the application process
iii Specific admission conditions
I. The specific conditions for admission to this master’s degree are regulated by the Legal Regime
of Professional Qualification for Teaching in Pre-school Education and Basic and Secondary Edu-
cation. Those who comply with the following requirements can apply for this master’s degree:
a) who cumulatively holds a higher academic qualification referred to in subparagraphs a) to c)
of paragraph 1 of Article 17 of Decree-Law no. 74/2006 and has at least 100 ECTS of training
in Portuguese and 60 ECTS training credits in English;
b) whoever meets the conditions referred to in paragraph d) of paragraph 1 of Article 17 of
Decree-Law no. 74/2006, and has at least 100 ECTS of training in Portuguese and 60 ECTS
credits of training in English;
c) whoever, having less than 100 ECTS of training in Portuguese and 60 ECTS credits of training
in English, has at least 75% of the minimum requirements, and must obtain the remaining ECTS
after enrollment.
II. A general admission condition is oral and written command of the Portuguese language and
mastery of the essential rules of logical and critical argumentation, in accordance with the legisla-
tion in force for this purpose. This condition will be certified by combining a written Portuguese

language test with an interview. In both cases, the candidate must obtain approval. The written
test and interview are mandatory for everyone, regardless of their previous training or professional
situation. The application can also be made by presenting a certificate of approval, issued by
another institution. of higher education, in which the candidate has taken tests for this same
purpose, considering the conditions set out in the legislation in force for this purpose.
The written test and interview to assess Portuguese language proficiency will take place on April
2nd (1st phase), July 5th (2nd phase) and September 6th (3rd phase) at a location and time to
be announced.
In the application documents, it is necessary to present a certificate of qualifications detailing
the credits of each course unit, so that the minimum training credits set for entry to the course
can be verified, as determined by the Legal Regime of Professional Qualification for Teaching
in Pre-school Education and in Basic and Secondary Education (DL 79/2014 of 14 May, in its
current version).

Depending on the number of applications, there may be transfer of vacancies from the international
students applications to the European Union students applications or vice-versa.

11. Tuition fee
Candidates with nationality of European Union countries: 697,00 e
Candidates without nationality of European Union countries: 2 500,00 e
– Annual Tuition fee for international students with merit scholarship: 1 050,00 e

– Annual Tuition fee for international students with cooperation and development scho-
larship: 1 250,00 e
In the admission year, all students with international student status who have an undergraduate
average of 15 or above (on a 0-20 scale) benefit from the international student merit scholarship
tuition fee and all students from PALOP countries benefit from the tuition fee for international
students with cooperation and development scholarship.
In the following years, to keep the merit or cooperation and development scholarship, the
student has to meet the conditions stipulated in article 22 of the Academic Regulations of
the University of Évora and the results are published until October 31 of each academic year,
without the need to apply for the scholarship.
