1. Global Electricity Review
• Released by – Ember (global energy think tank)
• India overtook Japan to become 3rd largest solar power generator in 2023.
o India was ranked 9th in solar energy deployment in 2015.
• India saw world's 4th-largest increase in solar generation in 2023 (+18-terawatt hour or TWh),
behind China, the United States and Brazil.
• Together, top 4 solar growth countries accounted for 75% of growth in 2023.
• Solar produced a record 5.5% of global electricity in 2023.
o India generated 5.8% of its electricity from solar in 2023 (0.5% in 2015).
• Global solar generation in 2023 was more than 6 times larger than in 2015.
• Solar maintained its status as world's fastest-growing electricity source for 19th consecutive
year, adding more than twice as much new electricity worldwide as coal in 2023.
2. World’s Wealthiest Cities Report 2024
• Released by - Henley & Partners in collaboration with New World Wealth
• Includes world’s Top 50 wealthiest cities.
• United States emerged as World’s richest country, with 11 cities featured in Top 50.
o Among Asian – China dominates with 5 cities.
• Top wealthiest cities: 1. New York City (USA) > 2. The Bay Area (USA) > 3. Tokyo (Japan) >
4. Singapore (Singapore) > 5. London (UK)
• 2 Indian cities into top 50 list: 24th – Mumbai, 37th – Delhi
o Ranked above, Washington, DC (USA) – 41st.
• In Middle East, Dubai has emerged as the wealthiest city, ranking 21st.

3. India's consumption story- the big divide
• Released by - UBS Securities
• Indian is expected to emerge as world's 3rd largest consumer market by 2026.
• Household consumption nearly doubled in past decade to $2.1trn in 2023, with an
annual compound growth rate of 7.2%, higher than China, the US and Germany.
• Since mid-2022, investments and real GDP growth have recovered much faster than
consumption.
• Household consumption growth in FY25/26 to remain subdued at 4-5% year-on-year,
below trend observed in previous years.
4. Indian Space Situational Assessment Report (ISSAR) 2023
• Released by - Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
• Evaluates vulnerability of space assets to environmental hazards and artificial space objects.
• ISRO regularly carries out analysis through IS4OM/ISTRAC to predict close approaches by
other space objects to Indian space assets.
o In case of any critical close approach, collision avoidance manuals (CAM) are carried
out to safeguard the operational spacecraft.
• ISRO System for Safe and Sustainable Operations Management has been operational since
2022, and its objective is to improve compliance with internationally recognised guidelines
on long-term sustainability of outer space activities.
5. District-level Flood Severity Index (DFSI)
• Released by - by researchers at IIT-Delhi and IIT-Roorkee
• Index considers historical severity of floods based on number of affected people, spread and
duration of floods.
• Top 10 districts where flood severity is the highest are: Patna, Murshidabad, Thane, North
24 Parganas (West Bengal), Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Gorakhpur
(Uttar Pradesh), Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), East Champaran (Bihar), and East Medinipur (West
Bengal).
• Among 30 districts facing highest risk of floods, 17 are in Ganga basin and 3 are in
Brahmaputra basin.
• Assam experiences highest number of floods in India, having faced more than 800 flood
events over 56 years.
• Other flood-prone states, in descending order of flood events, include Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar
Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
• 5 districts - Thiruvananthapuram, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Kamrup, and Nagaon - have been
categorised as "severely flood-prone," having recorded more than 178 floods, or more than 3
events per year on average.
