Prior Learning Connections (1 POINT)
This lesson occurs in the beginning of elements and compounds. At the same time the students must already
have experience and familiar with the following concepts: substances and mixtures. Pre-Assessment determines that
most students recall their prior learnings.
Differentiation/ Accommodations (6 POINTS)
Difficulty for students with ADHD Accommodations/ Modifications
Difficulty Sustaining Attention Divide the lecture into manageable chunks and
include practical exercises or experiments to keep
students interested and reinforce important ideas.
Impulsivity Use planned exercises that make students consider
their answers before answering, including
interactive tests or group conversations with
assigned speaking roles.
Hyperactivity Allowing students to stand up during class
discussions or offering opportunities for kinesthetic
learning are two ways to incorporate movement
into the lecture.
Inattention to Details To demonstrate the distinctions between elements
and compounds, use visual aids like diagrams,
models, or movies. To assist students in organizing
information and identifying important points,
provide them guided notes or graphic organizers.
Difficulty with Organization Divide difficult ideas into manageable steps, with
clear instructions and visual aids. In diagrams or
demonstrations, distinguish between elements and
compounds using color coding or other graphical
indicators.
Representation
1. Activate or supply background knowledge
2. Illustrate through multiple media

Procedure (6 POINTS) UDL Guidelines
Before the lesson 1. Connect to the Previous Learning (3 minutes) (3.1)
• Recall about the Substances and Activate or supply background
Mixtures knowledge
2.Motivation: Listing, and Activating Prior
Knowledge (7 minutes)
The students will list households’ materials that
shows Substances and Mixtures found at the
kitchen.
During the lesson 3. (15 minutes) (6.1)
a. State the objectives (let the students know Guide appropriate goal setting
what they will be doing and learning today)
(3.2)
b. The teacher will discuss the difference Highlight patterns, critical
between the elements and compounds features, big ideas, and
particularly the following will be discuss: relationships
i. What is the use of periodic table?
ii. Identifying the elements that are (2.5)
essential to life Illustrate through multiple
iii. What are compounds? media
c. The students will watch a video clip about
the elements and compounds to learn more
d. Examples of element and compound (4.1)
important to human body. Vary the methods for response
and navigation
4. Activity 1: Friend Searching (2 minutes)
(6.1)
a. The students will be given a set of cut Guide appropriate goal setting
out papers that have a written element on it.
b. The students will find a partner to (8.3)
combine elements to form a compound. Foster collaboration and
Example: Na + Cl = NaCl (Salt) community
5. Activity 2: Venn Diagram (10 minutes) (3.3)
Guide information processing,
a. Using Venn Diagram, the students will visualization, and manipulation
compare and contrast elements and compounds.
b. The students will also classify 5 (8.4)
substances if they are elements or compounds. Increase mastery-oriented
feedback
6. Presentation: (10 minutes)
a. The students will present their works in
front of the class.
b. The teacher will check the students
work.
After the lesson 7. Generalization:
(9.3)
The students will be asked to write a Develop self-assessment and
social media post on the health importance of a reflection
specific element and compound in the body.
Before posting, they will first share it to the
class.
8. Evaluation: Pool-of-Ideas: Fill out the chart
