 Greetings
Good morning, class!
Good morning, Ma’am!
 Class Structuring
Fix all your things on the table

 Prayer
Kindly lead the prayer, Joseph
In the name of the father, of the son, and
the Holy Spirit, Father God, as we start the
new day for new learning, we ask for Your
guidance. Lead us all the way, Amen.
 Checking of attendance
Class who’s absent today?
None, Ma’am
Very Good!

 Classroom rules
Before we start, I just want to remind you about
the rules in our science class.
 We should always be responsible and
be respectful both to your teachers and
to your classmates
 Always pay attention.
 If you want to answer or ask questions
just raise your hand.
Are we clear?
Yes, Ma’am!
 Review
In the previous lesson you have learned about
the characteristics of the star and different
patterns in the sky.

Will you give me the characteristics of the star?

Yes, Gea!

The characteristics of the star are

brightness, size, color, temperature and
mass.
Very good! Thank you!

Which characteristics of star show how hot or

cold it is? Yes, Albert?

 Motivation
Let us watch a short video. Observe carefully
because I will be asking some question after
the video.

(The teacher will play a video clip)

What have you observed in the video?

Yes, Joseph!

I observed that the video shows that we

moving from east to west, but in reality, the
stars don’t change their positions.

But earlier your classmate observed on the

video that we see different constellation every
season.
Why do we see different constellation every
season?

Thank You!
B. Lesson Proper
We see different constellation every
For that situation let’s find out as we go along season because of the Earth’s revolution
to our discussion and activity. Let us proceed
with the unlocking of difficulties for the different
star patterns throughout the year.

As the earth orbit around the sun, we can see around our Sun. In the summer, viewers

constellations fall in, this path is called the
plane of ecliptic. It is through this constellation
that our sun appears to pass during the year.

different seasons. There are four seasons in
some parts of the world while others have one
or two just like here in the Philippines. We have
two season the dry and wet season.

Look at the picture, let’s say the observer is in

the Philippines. In the Philippines during
December or cold season the observer will able
to see the Orion and Taurus while Scorpius will
not be seen during this time.

Given that information, how early people used

constellations? Will you read the slide, yes
Edlyn!

• They used constellation as

navigation. The Polaris star widely used in
navigation because it does not change
position at any time of the night or year.
• Ancient sailors used stars and

know what is the next season because we have
different star patterns throughout the year.
.
To explain further why we see different star
patterns throughout the year let’s do the
activity; Different Star Patterns throughout the
Year.

a.) Pre-Activity
In this activity you will explain why some
constellations are not seen at certain months.

The materials needed are:

 Photographs of the night sky at different
months (Manila).
 Print-out (or drawings) of constellation.
 Globe
 Small toy figure
 lamp
 Pen
 Paper

To do this activity you will be group into three

(3) groups
Table 1 – group 1
Table 2 – group 2
Table 3 – group 3

b.) Activity Proper

Before we start let’s discuss the procedure of
the activity, will you read Kassandra,

Procedure:
1. Observe the movement of the earth using
the celestial sphere.
2. Look at the series of photographs below.
This is how you see the night sky in Manila
(while facing the North) at different months.

Figure 1. March night sky

Figure 2. June night sky

Figure 3. September night sky

Figure 4. December night sky

3. Position the printed constellations as shown

in figure 5.

4. Look for the Philippines in the globe and

use an adhesive tape to put a small figure
(toy soldier) within its vicinity. The small
figure will represent an observer on Earth
(in the Philippines)
5. Turn on the lamp. Always focus on the
globe. What do the lighted and unlighted
parts of the globe represent?
6. Move the globe around the lamp
(counterclockwise, from A to D) Make sure
the globe maintains its tilt or orientation as
you move it around.

Guide Questions:

1. Compare the photographs. What do you

notice?
2. Why are some stars visible in March but not
visible in September?

3. What constellation are prominent during

winter? Fall? Summer? Spring?

*You have ten (10) minutes to answer the guide

questions. Choose one representative to read your
answer in front.

c.) Post-Activity
The students will answer the guide questions.

Guide questions:

1. Compare the photographs. What do you

notice?

Possible answer:
When we compare the photographs of the
night sky at different months, we notice that
each month there are different constellation
2. Why are some stars visible in March but not that appears at the night sky.
visible in September?

The stars stay in their position throughout

the year but due to the revolution of the
Earth on its orbit we can see different parts
3. What constellation are prominent during of the sky at different time of the year.

Major.

Fall (September): Pegasus Andromeda,

Aquarius, Capricornus, Pisces

Summer (June): Sagittarius, Aquila,

Cygnus, Hercules, Lyra, Ophiuchus,
Scorpius
Very good class! All your answers are
correct! Spring (March) : Bootes, Cancer, Crates,
Hydra, Leo, Virgo
Let’s review the figure 5 and figure 6 on
your activity.

As the globe (earth) moves around the

lamp (sun), what have you notice?
What do lighted and unlighted parts of the
globe represents?
Yes, Albert!

sun? Yes or no, explain you answer?
Yes, Jessie!

An observer from the Philippines will not

able to see the stars on the same side as
the sun because the sun overpowers all
the star lights but if the observer is on the

see the stars.
Again, Rotation of the earth on its axis is
responsible for the apparent movement of
the stars across the night and the revolution
of the earth around the sun is responsible
for the fact that we can see different parts of
the sky at different times of the year.

Aside from constellations that we

encountered in our activity we also have 12
zodiac constellations or commonly known
as the zodiac signs?

What are those? Will you read, yes, Lara!

Thank you, Lara! Capricorn, Pisces, Aries, Scorpio, Gemini,

C. Application

Class have you ever wondered during

Christmas season specially in December
our mother or grandmothers always tell us
look at the sky you will see the “tres
marias”, then when we look up the sky we
can see three bright stars in a line, each of
which can be seen without a telescope.
How about you, will you share your
experience?

Yes, Gea!

My grandfather use to say that if we cannot

see star on the night sky it means that
Thank you, Gea, for sharing. there might be a rain or storm that night
Given these examples how do you think and the next night if we see star meaning
early people used the constellations? But there is no rain anymore.
before we answer that I will show a short
video for you to watch.

(Play the video)

What have you observed on the video? Yes
Ivan!

Very good! In the video they use the star or

the constellation as a guide to their Moana’s ancestor named the stars and use
direction. it as a guide to their destination.

Based on the shared experiences and on

the video, what is the importance of the
constellation in our daily living?
Yes, Allen?

Constellation plays a vital role in our life

specially to the early people because they
use the constellations as their guide on
their way, some people used it as a sign for
incoming storm and beginning of new
season just like the constellation “tres

Philippines.
In Philippines we also have our own
constellation. Given that let us watch this
short video.
