IV. PROCEDURES
TEACHER’S ACTVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
I. Preliminary Routines
a. Greetings
Good morning, class. Good morning, Ma’am.
How was your day? Are you all Yes, Ma’am.
feeling good today?
Heavenly Father, Thank You for bringing us together today. Guide our
Okay, that’s good to hear! minds as we learn, and help us to be respectful, kind, and focused. Bless
our teacher who share her knowledge with us, and give us the wisdom to
b. Prayer understand and grow. May we use what we learn to help others and
make the world a better place. Amen.
Kindly lead us a prayer.
Before you sit down, kindly pick up
those pieces of paper under your
chairs and arrange your chairs
properly.
c. Checking of Attendance Yes, ma’am.
Class, is everybody present today?
Very good!
d. Setting of Classroom Rules
Before we proceed to our lesson, let us
have our classroom rules.
Read our classroom rules.
-Be ready to learn
-Show respect
-Have self-control
-Bring your best attitude
-Give your best effort
ELICIT (2 minutes)
Before we proceed to our lesson, I will show
you a picture. Look at the illustration
carefully and observe the details. After that, I
will ask some questions about what you see
in the image.
Ma’am sun, clouds, trees, a blue sky, and a winding path in a green
Guide Questions: landscape.
a. What do you see in the illustration?
Very good! The sun's energy reaches the Earth as light and heat through radiation.
b. How does the energy from the sun reach
the Earth?
Exactly!Sunlight travels 149 million
kilometers from the Sun to Earth. It takes
about 8⅓ minutes (or 500 seconds) to reach
the top of Earth's atmosphere. The Sun's
energy moves in waves through space at the
speed of light as electromagnetic radiation.
ENGAGE (5 minutes)
I will divide the class into three groups. Each
group will receive words related to different
layers of the atmosphere. Your task is to
determine which layer belongs to and paste it
onto the correct layer in the provided picture
of the atmosphere. Yes, ma'am.
Did you get it?Are you ready class?
Good job everyone! In connection with the
Layers of the earth atmosphere ma’am.
activity, what is our lesson for today class?
Our topic today is all about“Sunlight serves
as Earth’s external source of energy
interacting with layers of the
atmosphere’’.But before that this is our
learning objectives.
At the end of the lesson, the learners should
be able to:
a. describe the layers of the earth
atmosphere
b. differentiate the layers of the
atmosphere in terms of temperature
and altitude.
c. appreciate the layers of the earth
atmosphere in our daily life
EXPLORE (5 minutes)
Now, I have here another activity unlocking
content vocabulary all you need to do is
match the correct word that describe the
prefixes attached to the root word sphere.
Exosphere → Outside
1. Exosphere ●changes Thermosphere → Heat
2. Thermosphere ● outside Mesosphere → Middle
3. Mesosphere ● middle Stratosphere → Layer
4. Stratosphere ● heat Troposphere → Changes
5. Troposphere ● layer
EXPLAIN (10 minutes)
Good job, class! Now that you have an idea
about the atmosphere, we can further expand
your knowledge.
Ma’am Troposphere,Stratosphere,Mesosphere,
What are the five of layers of the earth? Thermosphere and Exosphere.
Layers of the earth atmosphere
The temperature profile of the atmosphere is
the basis for dividing the atmosphere into
several layers : (1) troposphere, (2)
stratosphere, (3) mesosphere. (4)
thermosphere, and the (5) cxosphere. Each
layer has its own distinct characteristics.
Let us find out more about them.
Very good!Do you have an idea about The troposphere is the lowest layer of the atmosphere where we live,
trophosphere? and it is where weather happens ma’am.
The ozone layer is in the stratosphere, and it protects us from the Sun’s
harmful rays, Ma’am.
Exactly, What happens in the stratosphere?
Meteors burn up in the mesosphere before they reach Earth, Ma’am
That’s right! What is special about the
mesosphere?
The thermosphere absorbs a lot of the Sun’s heat, making it very hot,
Ma’am.
Nice idea! Why is the thermosphere very hot?
Satellites orbit in the exosphere, the outermost layer of the atmosphere,
Ma’am.
Very good!Lastly,What can be found in the
exosphere?
ELABORATE (10 minutes)
Now that you have learned about the layers
of the atmosphere and their importance, let’s
test your understanding with a group activity.
In your respective groups, study the graph I
will give you. Each group will answer two
questions based on the graph. Discuss your
answers with your groupmates and present in
front.
GROUP 1
Guide Questions: Q1. What are the five layers of the atmosphere? Estimate the height of
GROUP 1 each layer.
The five layers of the atmosphere are:
Q1. What are the five layers of the Troposphere: 0–12 km
atmosphere? Estimate the height of each Stratosphere: 12–50 km
layer. Mesosphere: 50–80 km
Thermosphere: 80–120 km
Q2. In which layer is temperature increasing Exosphere: Above 120 km
with increasing altitude? Q2. In which layer is temperature increasing with increasing altitude?
The stratosphere and thermosphere have temperatures that increase with
altitude.
GROUP 2
Q3. In which layer is temperature decreasing with increasing altitude?
The troposphere and mesosphere have temperatures that decrease with
altitude.
Q4. What is the relationship between temperature and altitude in the
GROUP 2 different layers?
Troposphere: Temperature decreases as altitude increases.
Q3. In which layer is temperature decreasing Stratosphere: Temperature increases as altitude increases.
with increasing altitude? Mesosphere: Temperature decreases as altitude increases.
Thermosphere: Temperature increases as altitude increases.
Q4. What is the relationship between
Exosphere: Temperature remains high and variable, but it is difficult to
temperature and altitude in the troposphere?
define due to low air density.
stratosphere? mesosphere? thermosphere?
exosphere?
GROUP 3
Q5. Analyze the graph. What is the basis for the division of Earth's
atmosphere?
The atmosphere is divided based on temperature trends (whether
temperature increases or decreases with altitude).
Q6. Based on the graph, can you generalize that the higher the layer of
the atmosphere (closer to the Sun), the hotter the temperature? Why or
why not?
No, because temperature does not increase uniformly with altitude. For
example, the mesosphere is colder than both the stratosphere and
GROUP 3 thermosphere. The heating in each layer depends on how gases absorb
solar radiation, not just on proximity to the Sun.
Q5. Analyze the graph, What is the basis for
the division of atmosphere?
Q6. Based on the graph, can you generalize
that the higher the layer of the atmosp Earth's
here (that is closer to the Sun), the hotter the
temperature? Why or why not?
The Earth's atmospheric layers play a vital
role in our daily lives. The troposphere gives
us the air we breathe and determines the
weather we experience. The stratosphere
shields us from harmful UV rays, keeping us
safe under the sun. The mesosphere protects
us by burning up meteors before they reach
the ground. The thermosphere enables
communication and navigation through radio
waves and GPS. Lastly, the exosphere acts as
Earth’s outer shield, protecting us from space
radiation. These layers work together to
make life on Earth safe and comfortable.
EXTEND (2 minutes)
In what ways do the layers of the Earth's
atmosphere help us in our daily lives? The atmosphere protects us from the Sun’s harmful rays, so we don’t get
too much UV radiation.
Anyone from the class?
It helps control the weather, giving us rain and wind, which are
Very good! Does anyone have another idea? important for farming and daily life.
The air in the atmosphere gives us oxygen to breathe, so people and
Who else would like to answer? animals can live.
