Simple sentences have one subject and one verb or predicate.
Subject means the doer of the action.
Predicate means the action in a sentence.

Example:

Simple sentence: The girl runs in the field.

The girl runs in the field.

FUNNY MACMAC

Macmac is a black crow. She is a funny crow.


Macmac likes to go to the well.
She likes to run around the well.

Ted says “Macmac, run around the well.”


Ted yells, “ Macmac, don’t run around the
well.”

Macmac falls into the well! Oh, no!


She can’t swim. What should she do? What should
she do?
Teddy gets a big net.
He gets Macmac out of the well. That’s good.
Macmac is wet but happy. Ted is happy too.

Compound sentences are composed of two simple
sentences linked by a coordinating conjunction like and, but, or,
yet, so, for, nor.
Examples:

• Sarah walked to class but Kevin ran.

thunder as they played their game.
The kids went outside again after the
storm had passed. They saw a rainbow.
