I - General

OTIS 2000 Line cars are equipped with the CPI10 (LCD technology) in the COP in order to show
the position, the direction and the overload indication.
The CPI11 (Electroluminescent Display technology) is an additional product, which can substitute
for the CPI10.
The ELDisplay is a high-performance alternative to industry-standard LCD. Thus it provides a
superior graphical quality than the CPI10 (LCD technology).
This small graphics display (quarter VGA) gives to passengers in the car, some interesting graphics
to look at, with a wide viewing angle (>160°), high brightness and contrast.
Both LCDisplay and ELDisplay can be used simultaneously, since the Serial Communication
protocol is the same for both devices.
They are directly connected to the Remote Serial Link via a single 4-pole AMP connector (type HE-
13).
A SUBD9 connector slot is foreseen for a future connection with a SVT or a laptop.
This SUBD9 is a RS422/485 interface.
Moreover a CAN bus interface connector slot is also foreseen for a future applications.
The electronic interface board is based on a 16-bit microcontroller and a graphic controller.
The electronic board receives and processes the data coming from the RSL, and manages the
dynamic display.

II - Functional Description

The CPI11 module (made in Gien) has been developed so as to replace the product from the Review
Display Systems Limited (RDS), based on the same technology of display,
The CPI 11 made in Gien and the CPI 11 from RDS have the same global functionalities.
Nevertheless the CPI 11 made in Gien can be used as a HPI. The PCB is the same for the both.
The ELD module uses an electroluminescent technology, which provides a yellow image on black
background.
The reference of this CPI11 is EL320.240.36 (1/4 VGA) from Planar Systems, inc.
This display consists of an EL glass and control electronics assembled into a space-saving, rugged
package for easy mounting. It is can be interfaced using standard 4-bit LCD control signals.
Each of the 76800 pixels is individually addressable to clearly display high information content
graphics and text.
ELD commands and data in the serial bus protocol provide enhanced functions so as to display
different kinds of graphics like the doors motion.
The ELD uses two basic sizes of characters:
- 50 mm high for the biggest characters.
- 15 mm high for the smallest characters.

2.1 - Revision History

Firmware revision

When the ELD is powered up for the first time, it shows briefly in the middle of the screen, the
OTIS logo. On the left upper corner of the screen, the name of this product "CPI".
On the right upper corner of the screen, the number of this product "11".
On the left down corner of the screen, the firmware revision of the software "R1.0" (revision 1.0).
On the right down corner of the screen, the date of the last software revision "1001" (October 2001).
See Fig 6.1.
This provides an easy method of checking the firmware revision without opening the housing.
Then the RSL data are immediately processed.

Revision 1.1 :
Timing problem encounters withe the RSL from RCBII, GEA generation (Hamilton IC) and GFA
generation (PIC microcontroller).
Software modification in the CC2.C file (see note with source program).

2.2 - Door Selection

The CPI11 uses a SMD Switch so as to select which door information it manages from the bus
(Front or Rear).
The reference of the switch on the Printed Card Board is " SW1/N°6".
Before all, note that the ELD only checks the position of the switch at the power up.
Removing the switch when the unit is powered, has no effect.
To configure the ELD for a FRONT Door operation, push the N°6 switch on the SW1 to OFF
position.
To configure the ELD for a REAR Door operation, push the N°6 switch on the SW1 to ON position.
The Default Use is "SW1 N°6 on OFF position".

2.3 - Default configuration of the CPI 11

This state is a default setting.

The ELD remembers only the Nosmoke logo, and uses the same data even after it has been powered
down.
Obviously, these options can be changed via the SVT.

- No smoking = OFF.
- Language = English.
- Door speed (front & rear). Both 2 seconds.

2.3.1 - Digit-Initialization

Before using the ELD, it is necessary to perform the INIT_DIGITS command. This can be done at
any time (doors open or closed) and will program the ELD with the correct floor digits that should
be displayed for each level (0-31).
During the INIT_DIGITS, the ELD will show the screen shown in Fig. 6.2.
The digits for the levels are shown at the left of the ELD screen. After initialization the bottom area
of the ELD is cleared.
The information, which is programmed, is remembered by the ELD until another INIT DIGITS
command overwrites the data. After this command all floor names are cleared to NONE.
If there is no customer message on a floor, it simply shows the digits in the center of the message
area (see Fig. 6.3).

Operating Instruction (depends on the type of controller)

1 - Switch ON the power installation

2 - Set up the position Indicator by using the test tool
Indeed a processing initialization is enough (no need to change a digit level)

- With MCS220 : Key sequence is M - 1 - 3 - 4 - M

- With MCS321 : Key sequence is M - 1 - 3 - 4 - M

2.3.2 - Message-Initialization

The ELD can also display a "customer message" for any level.
The name must be a maximum of 16 characters long and can contain any of the characters detailed
later in this document.
It is possible to use some non-standard characters, within the "Small Characters".
The names for each level are edited using the service tool. The elevator controller sends this
information to the ELD during an INIT_NAMES command.
The ELD will show the screen in Fig. 6.4. Each time a name is sent, the ELD displays it to the right
of the level numbers. After the initialization, the bottom area of the ELD is cleared.
Programming of floor names, allows the ELD to display a customer message, associated with a
particular floor.
The message appears with the next stop function or when the doors are open.

2.4 - Other Programmable Features

2.4.1 - No Smoking Symbol

The ELD can be programmed to display a "NO SMOKING" symbol. These symbols appear during
the doors motion.
The No Smoking logos are located to the top left and top right of the screen (see Fig. 6.5).
The Default State for this function is DISABLED. The controller sends the no smoking command to
enable or disable the symbols.
The command is only sent once. The ELD remembers the configuration until the next time the
command is sent. If the command is sent while the doors are open the symbols appear/disappear on
the ELD.

2.4.2 - Programmable Door Speed

The ELD mimics the speed and the movement of the car doors. This motion depends on the type of
door mechanism.
So it is necessary to provide a simulation of the ELD's "door movement", in order to match with the
real doors motion.
A setting allows the elevator controller to program the doors speed.
The ELD has a door speed command that lets the elevator controller set the opening door time to the
closing door time, in the range of 1" to 10" (step of 0.1"). There are 4 commands for Front/Rear
door opening and closing times.
Then the ELD will use this time to correctly adjust the door movement graphics.
The default time for all door movements is 2".
Once the elevator controller has sent new door O/C times, the ELD will remember them until the
next change.
Note that if the speed is not well set, the ELD graphics will not be synchronized with the real door
position.

2.4.3 - Language Translation

It is possible to set the appropriate language which fits in with the messages displayed for the next
stop and emergency functions.
The elevator controller sends a country code command via the RSL, that the ELD will then process.
The default language is English.
English is also used when a command that is not listed below is sent.
Currently, 25 languages are supported (see below).
The abbreviation to the left is the code that the service tool uses.

2.5 - Other Functions

2.5.1 - Next Stop

The ELD supports the next stop command. This command is sent after the doors have been closed.
The ELD will display the message "NEXT STOP xx" where xx are the digits for the next stop level.
The "NEXT STOP" is translated into the right language.
The ELD gets the information for the next stop digits from it's own data which was saved at the last
INIT_DIGITS command.
The next stop message is displayed for 3 seconds. Then the destination floor name and digits are
displayed until the floor is reached and the doors open. If the destination floor does not have a
custom message, the next stop message remains until the floor is reached and the doors are opened.
When the doors open, the floor name information remains on the bottom area of the display.
If the floor does not have a custom message, the digits are shown in the center of the display (see
Fig. 6.3).

2.5.2 - Extra Large Character Fonts

The ELD owns the following character fonts:

0 to 9 and space and *
and
A to Z
The size for these characters is 50 mm high.
In order to select the correct digits for each level, the service tool must be used to program the
correct 16-segment code (the ELD only uses the 16 segment data). If a code is used that the ELD
cannot display, the display remains in this initial state.
This also applies to the messages where a character is used that the ELD does not have in the smaller
character set.

2.5.3 - Small Character Fonts

The ELD owns the following character fonts:

0 to 9 and space
and
A to Z
and
-&,/( ) <>. :
The following characters are also available:
Ä Á Å Ç Ø Ö Ü Æ (2 chars used as a pair)
The size for these characters is 15 mm high (see Fig. 6.6)
Any of these characters can be used within the programmable message area for different language
messages. The message is edited using the service tool so as to select the characters for the message
and then an INIT_NAMES command sends these informations to the ELD.

2.5.4 - Emergency Fire Service (EFS)

EFS is supported in 27 languages. When the op_mode command (1,2 or 3) is received, the ELD
switches into EFS mode. In this mode, the ELD displays a graphic, showing a person leaving the
elevator (Fig. 6.7.a).
This graphic flashes and alternates with a message in the selected country language.
An example is shown in Fig. 6.7.b.
The ELD remains in this mode, until an op_mode 0 command is received. Then, it returns to the
normal operation.

2.5.5 - Sleep Mode

The ELD supports "SLEEP" mode, so as to increase display span-life.

While the elevator is not in use, the elevator controller sends an op_mode 4 (sleep) command.
When it is received, the ELD blanks the display (sleep mode).
The ELD remains in this mode until an op_mode 0 or op_mode 5 (wakeup mode) is received.
When the op_mode 0 or op_mode 5 is transmitted from the controller, that restores the display
picture (op_mode 0 can be used in place of op_mode 5 to wake up the ELD).
The ELD allows to go from sleeping (op_mode 4) to EFS mode without the wakeup or normal
command in between.

2.5.6 - Limited Reversal

The ELD supports limited reversal. This can happen when the doors are going to close and the light
ray device detects an object in the doors.
The ELD monitors the bus information, during door closing to see if this condition occurs. When
limited reversal occurs, the ELD displays the image shown in Fig. 6.8.
If the doors reverse to fully open, the display returns to the screen that is displayed just before the
doors close.
If the doors partially reverse, the image shown in Fig. 6.8 is maintained until the doors are fully
closed.

2.5.7 - Overload Symbol

The ELD supports the OVERLOAD function.

When the doors are opened, if the overload condition is sent throughout the bus, the large up/down
arrow is replaced with an overload symbol (see Fig. 6.8).
The overload bit controls the symbol flashing. When the overload condition is removed, the symbol
is replaced with the next direction large arrow (up, down or none).

2.5.8 - Large S and 5

The ELD protocol allows it to distinguish between the code for S and the code for 5. When the S
character is implemented, it will be possible to make this display correctly as an S not as the number
5.

2.5.9 - Reset Command

The reset command can be used to perform a reset, as at power up on the ELD
