Workday – Create a Position
Overview
Ascend’s best practice is to create the job requisition and the position at the same time. If, however,
the position needs to be created independently of the job requisition, use this job aid.

Create a Position
1. In the search box, enter “create position”, then click Search, or press the Enter key. The Search
Results are displayed.
2. From the search results, select Create Position.
3. Enter the supervisory organization where the position will be created or select it from the menu.
4. Click OK. The Create Position screen will be displayed.
5. Enter the Job Posting Title.
NOTE: The Job Posting Title is the title that will display on career sites and may differ from the Job
Profile. For example, Job Posting Title may be “Process Improvement Leader”, but Job Profile may
be “Process Engineer III”.
6. The Number of Positions field is required and defaults to 1, but can be changed if necessary.

7. Enter the Availability Date, which is the earliest date the job or position is available for staffing
transactions such as hire or promotion.
8. Enter the Earliest Hire Date, which is the earliest date a worker can be hired into the position. This
date can be the same as, or later, than the Availability Date. The system will not allow a hire prior to
this date.
9. Enter the required information in the following fields:
No Job Restrictions – Do Not Check (If the job restrictions check box is selected, upon hire you
will be required to fill the position with a candidate that meets all previously determined
restrictions)
Job Family (This is equivalent to “Job Function” in ADP)
Job Profile (This is equivalent to “Job Code Description” in ADP)
o A Job Profile may have duplicate/identical titles. To ensure you are selecting the appropriate
job profile, select the related actions to find the specific compensation grade.
Job Description Summary – Do not enter; this will be entered separately in JobVite
Job Description – Do not enter; this will be entered separately in JobVite

10. Click Submit. A confirmation and the Up Next information is displayed. Click the Details and Process
tab to display the next steps in the business process.
11. A confirmation page is displayed showing “Up Next”. Click the Open button to start the Change
Organization Assignments process. (NOTE: The Details and Process tabs can be viewed prior to
clicking Open, in order to see the process steps and who is responsible.)
12. Click the Pencil icon next to Company to edit. Select the appropriate Organization from the drop-
down list.
13. Verify Area ID, Division ID, SR Exec ID, HRBP ID, Department ID, and HR Dir. Edit as necessary.
14. Click Submit. A confirmation page is displayed showing “Process Successfully Completed”.
15. Click Done.
