i. This paper consists of section A and B with total fourteen (14) questions.
ii. Answer all questions in both sections
iii. Each question in section A carries six (6) marks while each question in
section B carries ten (10) marks.
iv. All writings must be in blue and black ink, except drawings which should in
pencil
v. Mathematical tables and No-programmable calculators may be used.
vi. All communication devices, programmable calculators and any
unauthorized materials are not allowed in the examination room.

SECTION A (60 Marks)
Answer ALL questions in this section
1. a) A father is now 28 years older than his daughter. If the ratio of their ages
5 years ago was 1:5. Find their present ages.
b) The average height of 45 pupils is 152 cm. if the average height of girls
alone in 144cm, and that of boys alone is 168cm, find the number of boys
and girls in the class
2. (a) The lowest common multiple of 3 numbers is 432 and their greatest
common factor is 12. If two of the number are 36 and 48, find the third
possible number(s)
(b) A bullet train covert a distance of 100m in 2seconds. Find the distance it
covers in 1 hour.
3. (a) In a certain street with 200 houses. 170 houses have electricity and 145
houses have glass doors. How many houses each house has either a glass
door or electricity or both.
(b) A piece of chalk is picked random from a box containing 5 identical
pieces, two of which are red and three are white. Find the probability that
piece of chalk picked is red.
4. (a) Find equation of the straight line in the form of y = mx +c passing
through the point (5,3) and (6,7).
(b) The forces of magnitudes 5N and 7N act on a particle an angle of 90 0
between them. Find the magnitude and direction of their statement.

5. (a) ABC, ̅𝐵 ̅ =7cm and 𝐴𝐵^ 𝐶= 34. Find the area of triangle.

(b) A piece of copper wire which is 56 cm long is bent to form rectangular
of area 171cm2. Find the length and the width of this rectangle.
(c) The ratio of the corresponding sides of two similar polygons is 9:5. The
teacher found that the area of the larger polygon is 129.6cm2. He then asked
students to calculate the area of the smaller polygon. One of the students
obtained 100cm2 was he right?
6. (a) If m varies inversely as t and directly as n3, determine the value of n
terms of m and t given that m=3 when n=2 and t=3
(b) A tourist from USA wishes to exchange $ 10,000 into Tanzanian
shillings. How much will he get 1$= 2700 Tshs?

7. (a) A teacher distributed a number of sweets to the three pupils in her body
class in the ratio 3:5:7. John was a pupil in the class who got the smallest
share of only 25 sweets. How many sweets did the teacher have altogether
before distributing them to those three pupils in the class?
b) (i) Explain the function of the trading account
(ii) The ledger of Mr. Festo had the following information

8. (a)The 20th term of an arithmetic progression is 60 and 16th term is 20. Find
the sum of the first 40 terms.
(b) Peter saved Tshs. 6,00,000/= in a saving bank whose interest rate was
10% compounded annually. Find the amount of money in the account after 5
years.
9. (a) Evaluate Cos 750 without using mathematical table leave your answer in
surd form.
(b) From the top of tower of height 60m the angles of depression of the top
and the bottom of a building are observed to be 30 0 and 600 respectively.
Find the height of the building.
10.(a) The length of the parallel sides of a trapezium are (x+4) and (x +2). The
perpendicular distance between the parallel sides is (2x-3) find the area of
the trapezium and write your answer in the form of quadratic expression.
(b) John bought a certain number of pens for 3600 shillings if each pen had
coasted 50 shillings less, he could have bought six more pens for the same
amount of money, and how many pens did he buy?

12.(a) VABCD is a pyramid with VA =VB=VC=VD=5cm and ABCD is a
square base of sides 4cm each. Assume that the centre of the base is at point
v. find
i) The angle between VA and the base ABCD
ii) The volume of the pyramid
(b) A ship sails from point A (400S, 300W) due west along the same latitude
to point B for 1000km. find the latitude and longitude of point b. (Leave
your answer in nearest degree)
13. (a) A woman ows 60 domestics animals. Each of her domestic an animal
is either a cow or chicken. If the domestic animals are having the total of
200 legs use matrix method to find the number of cows and the number of
chicken which the woman owns.
(b) Find the image of the point (5,2) under a rotation of 90 0 followed by
another rotation of 180 anticlockwise.
