Scenario
In the context of a futuristic smart city, you are a technician working at a comprehensive automation
project aimed at optimizing urban infrastructure and enhancing quality of life. This initiative
encompasses the design, implementation, and analysis of various automated systems including robot
cars for efficient transportation and delivery services, level control tanks for intelligent water
management, ventilation systems for ensuring optimal air quality, automatic doors for seamless access
to public spaces, irrigation systems for sustainable green spaces, DC position system encoders for
precise monitoring and control of infrastructure, and solar tracker LDR systems for maximizing energy
efficiency. Each system is meticulously designed to integrate seamlessly into the urban environment,
utilizing state-of-the-art technologies such as sensors, microcontrollers, and automation algorithms.
Throughout the project lifecycle, thorough analysis is conducted to analyse performance, efficiency,
reliability, and user satisfaction, driving continuous improvement and innovation in urban automation
solutions.
Depending on this scenario, your manager asks you to select one of the following ideas shown in
table (1) and answer the following tasks:
Table 1. project Ideas
Project Idea Description Picture
Single Axis Solar Develop a smart solar tracker system that optimizes the
Tracker System positioning of solar panels to maximize sunlight
exposure throughout the day.
Main components (LDR – DC MOTOR – ARDUINO
– H-Bridge).
Automated Create an automated system for watering plants based
Irrigation System on soil moisture levels.
Main Components (Humidity Sensor – DC PUMP –
ARDUINO – H-Bridge).
Obstacle It detects obstacles, adjusts its path to avoid collisions.
Avoiding Robot Main Components (Ultrasonic Sensor – DC MOTOR
car – ARDUINO – H-Bridge).

water tank level A water tank level control system automatically
control system manages water levels using sensors and actuators,
ensuring efficient usage and preventing overflow or
shortages.
Main Components (Level Sensor – DC PUMP –
ARDUINO – H-Bridge).
Ventilation Develop an intelligent ventilation system based on real-
System time temperature level.
Main Components (Temperature Sensor – DC Fan –
ARDUINO – H-Bridge).
DC Motor A DC motor position control system precisely manages
Position Control the rotational position of a motor, vital for tasks in
System robotics, manufacturing, and automation.
Main Components (Encoder – DC Motor – ARDUINO
– H-Bridge).
Based on the previous scenario, you supervisor asked you to answer the following task:
Task No.01
You are required to test and calibrate one of the sensors used in your project. In a practical
experiment for measuring and calibrating the angular position of DC motors in the laboratory
using a rotation angle sensor. Your answer must contain the following:
1. Explain the calibration terminology, concepts, and techniques used with your sensor.
2. Illustrate the suitable equipment for your measuring and calibrating tasks.
3. Justify the choice of standard equipment for the calibration of given measuring systems.
4.Use the appropriate tools and connection to complete the following table in six different
reading values.

5. Your calibration data must consist of (Resolution-Accuracy-Sensitivity-Precision).
6. Evaluate your practical experiment for measuring and calibrating sensors according to your
experimental data and datasheet in table 2, and give a recommendation for improving your
3
experimental data.
Task No.02
In this part you are required to design and implement one of the mentioned ideas shown in
table (1) in the scenario. Your design must contain the following:
1.Explain the construction and operation of your control subsystem with an illustration of a
block diagram of your system.
2.Define the type of your system (open loop system or closed loop system), and explain the
difference.
3. Explain and describe the operation and application of the analogy-digital converter and
digital-analogy converter used in sensors in your project.
4. Illustrate the components and devices for your selected system.
5. Design and implement a driver for your actuator.
6. Implement your design to meets the design specifications that mention in the scenario
7. Analyse the performance of your selected system according to the required specifications.
