EDITOR’S NOTE
We started the month of January 2024 with four recommendations, taking the overall tally
of YMA to around 70!
Ram Temple. The country witnessed a grand spectacle on the 22 Jan with the consecration
of the Ram Temple in the Ayodhya. The PM lead event was grand in all possible forms with
almost all celebrities and religious leaders invited for the ceremony. The event marks
another major chapter towards the closure of the age-old dispute over the Babri masjid -
Ram janmbhumi. Hopefully, we will move ahead with all communities aligned towards a
progressive India. The critics saw the events as a run-up to the next general elections due in
April-May 24.
Bihar Samersault. In another bizarre event, the Bihar CM again shifted the political alliance
to the BJP. The public at large is aghast at how the political parties and leaders switch sides
without any concern for the emotions of the voters, this episode, marks another reason that
we need to have a look at the major reforms in our elections.
West Asia. The battle rages across the Gaza Strip, without any chance of any long-term
cease fire. The area of conflict continues to enlarge with other players like, Iran, Hezbollah,
and Syria getting involved along with the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The turmoil in the
shipping lanes in the Red Sea has thrown international trade in a spin. The Indian Navy has
taken a couple of very good actions to give confidence to Indian merchant vessels.
Happy to meet many young aspirants during my trip to IIT, Kharagpur, and Kolkata.

Why Is Republic Day Celebrated? On 26 January 1950, the Government of India Act, 1935,
made by the British, was replaced by the Constitution of India; on this day, the Constitution
was officially followed and stood tall as a picture of India's experience of becoming a
republic.
The constitution replaced the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of
India, thus turning the nation from a dominion into a republic post its independence from
the British Raj in 1947. The constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India
on 26 November 1949 and came into effect on 26 January 1950. The date was chosen as
the Indian National Congress proclaimed Purna Swaraj (complete independence) on this
day in 1930.
Republic Day is commonly associated with parades, political speeches, cultural events and
ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history,
government, and traditions of India.
