Welcome and Announcements
One: The Peace of Christ be with You.
All: And also with You.
GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

Call to Worship
One: We sing praises as we worship in your holy, righteous presence today,
O God!
All: You pave the way for us today, tomorrow and forever!
One: You are the way, the truth and the light.
All: You pave the way for us today, tomorrow and forever!
One: Forevermore, we will dwell in your holy shadow and give all praises to
you, our Creator!
All: You pave the way for us today, tomorrow and forever! Let us
worship our God. Amen!
Prayer of Adoration
God of all Creation, we thank you for the gift of this day: a day you have
entrusted to us, a day you promise to journey with us, a day you provide
for us what we most need for life. Joy fills our hearts as within your house
we prepare to worship you in word and song. Our hearts merely reflect
that which you have given us and we thank you for such a blessing.
Receive now our praise in Jesus name. Amen
2
*Hymn
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Come, thou Fount of every blessing;
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above;
praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
mount of God’s unchanging love!
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I’m come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.
O to grace how great a debtor
daily I’m constrained to be!
Let that grace now, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here’s my heart; O take and seal it;
seal it for thy courts above.

Prayer of Confession
We confess, O God, that we sometimes settle for filling our lives with
things that do not fill, or satisfy, or endure. We may jam activity and
busyness into every corner and moment as we can, and still find ourselves
empty, anxious, and hungering. And so we come to you. We come having
heard those whispers of bread of life. We come not knowing how to love
you. We come having neglected our neighbor. We come wondering if
those promises of never hungering again could possibly be true. We come
to you. Nourish us with your grace. Empower us for your service. Forgive
us for our transgressions. In the name of Jesus, who is life’s bread. Amen.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD

Prayer of Illumination
Reading from the Old Testament
Psalm 66:1-8
Be joyful in God, all you lands; sing the glory of his Name; sing the glory of his
praise. 2 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! Because of your great
strength your enemies cringe before you. 3 All the earth bows down before you,
sings to you, sings out your Name." 4 Come now and see the works of God, how
wonderful he is in his doing toward all people. 5 He turned the sea into dry land, so
that they went through the water on foot, and there we rejoiced in him. 6 In his might
he rules for ever; his eyes keep watch over the nations; let no rebel rise up against
him. 7 Bless our God, you peoples; make the voice of his praise to be heard; 8 Who
holds our souls in life, and will not allow our feet to slip.
The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version (National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, 1989)

Reading from the New Testament
Galatians 6:7-16
Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow. 8 If you
sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the
Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit. 9 So let us not grow weary in doing
what is right, for we will reap at harvest-time, if we do not give up. 10 So then,
whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for
those of the family of faith. 11 See what large letters I make when I am writing in
my own hand! 12 It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that try
to compel you to be circumcised—only that they may not be persecuted for the
cross of Christ. 13 Even the circumcised do not themselves obey the law, but they
want you to be circumcised so that they may boast about your flesh. 14 May I never
boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has
been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For neither circumcision nor
uncircumcision is anything; but a new creation is everything! 16 As for those who
will follow this rule—peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version (National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, 1989)

One: This is the Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God!

Family Choir
To God be the Glory
To God be the glory - great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Refrain
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus, the Son,
And give Him the glory - great things He hath done!
5
O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood -
To every believer, the promise of God.
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
refrain

Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,

And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son.
But purer and higher and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.
refrain

Reading from the Gospel

Luke 10:1-11
After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs
to every town and place where he himself intended to go. 2 He said to them, “The
harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest
to send out laborers into his harvest. 3 Go on your way. See, I am sending you out
like lambs into the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet
no one on the road. 5 Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ 6
And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person; but
if not, it will return to you. 7 Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever
they provide, for the laborer deserves to be paid. Do not move about from house to
house. 8 Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set
before you; 9 cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God
has come near to you.’ 10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not welcome
you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our
feet, we wipe off in protest against you. Yet know this: the kingdom of God has
come near.’

Sermon Rev Norm Hatter
“Independence, Interdependence, Dependence”
RESPONDING TO THE WORD
*Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in
Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead,
and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the
dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the
Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the
dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen.
*Hymn
Beneath the Cross of Jesus
Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand,
the shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land;
a home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way,
from the burning of the noontide heat, and the burden of the day.
Upon the cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see
the very dying form of One who suffered there for me;
and from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess:
the wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness.
I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of his face;
content to let the world go by, to know no gain or loss,
my sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.

Invitation to Giving

*Doxology
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Prayer of Dedication
Prayers of the People
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily
bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not
into temptation but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the Kingdom, and the
power and the glory, forever. AMEN!
GOING OUT INTO THE WORLD

*Hymn
Called as Partners in Christ's Service
Called as partners in Christ's service,
called to ministries of grace,
we respond with deep commitment
fresh new lines of faith to trace.
May we learn the art of sharing,
side by side and friend with friend,
equal partners in our caring
to fulfil God's chosen end.

8
Christ's example, Christ's inspiring,
Christ's clear call to work and worth,
let us follow, never faltering,
reconciling folk on earth.
Men and women, richer, poorer,
all God's people, young and old,
blending human skills together
gracious gifts from God unfold.
Thus new patterns for Christ's mission,
in a small or global sense,
help us bear each other's burdens,
breaking down each wall or fence.
Words of comfort, words of vision,
words of challenge, said with care,
bring new power and strength for action,
make us colleagues, free and fair.
So God grant us for tomorrow
ways to order human life
that surround each person's sorrow
with a calm that conquers strife.
Make us partners in our living,
our compassion to increase,
messengers of faith, thus giving
hope and confidence and peace.
Benediction
