Video games, also known as computer games, are electronic games that involves interaction with
a user interface. Video gaming is one of the most common activities done for entertainment
nowadays because of how accessible and fun they have become. They have developed to a point
where even toddlers have access to video games and even some toddlers are impressively able to
play complicated games and operate and navigate a mobile phone or a computer. So, is video
gaming really that bad? We believe that the downsides of video gaming can easily be avoided and
lead to an even better effect where the advantages outweigh and completely avoid the
disadvantages.

As mentioned, some toddlers are able to operate electronic devices and play complicated games
that require a certain level of thinking skills. This implies that video gaming leads to an
improvement of a person and especially young people's thinking skills. An article by doctors
from Department of Psychiatry, University of Vermont, found that brain imaging analyses
showed children who played video games for three or more hours per day showed higher brain
activity in regions of the brain associated with attention and memory than did those who never
played. Another way video games are a benefit is they can provide a fun and social form of
entertainment. It encourages teamwork like chitchat and cooperation when playing with others.
They make children feel comfortable with technology. According to Maeve Duggan of pew
research centre, 25% of those who play games (and 39% of self-identified gamers) think most
video games help develop good problem solving and strategic thinking skills. to add to that,
playing video games can enhance our memory, brainpower and concentration. For instance, if we
start a game, we have to think about how we can win and how we solve the problems and how do
the required tasks of the game. On the other hand, playing these types of games can help improve
our short and long memory and help the brain to interpret the information more quickly. Another
benefit of playing video games is that it can improve a child's social skills including collaboration
and teamwork, understanding behaviour and peer to peer learning. What is more, we can also
study unknown words from the games. Even if we do not study games, our brain will remember
those automatically. In addition, we can also get a type fun which can't get from anywhere. On
the other hand, according to a lecture, the addiction to these computer games can severely harm
the player. At this point, playing games for long hours can lead to severe health problems
especially damage to the eye because someone will face with screen for frequently which can
harm their cornea. To illustrate, this case is proved by some researchers which serve the evidence
that numerous gamers start wearing spectacles at an early age. Moreover, long hours of playing
computer games can cause headaches and dizziness or even lead to the hospitalization. video
games have become one of the world's favourite pastimes. Social replacement video games
often act as a replacement for real time human connection. People who find themselves
playing for hours may find themselves losing touch with the relationship they’ve built with
other people. People argue that with internet connected games, they can easily hang out with
friends and families without ever leaving home, but this type of virtual get-together is no
replacement for actual face to face interaction. There are almost 3 billion gamers worldwide in
2021 with gaming prevalence continuing to grow every year. So, it is understandable why some
people especially parents go against video gaming as it causes their children gradual physical
damage to their body but as said these can be easily avoided by proper time management. But this
shouldn’t mean that parents should completely block their children from video games and social
media as they provide useful benefits for developing mental skills at a young age.

In conclusion, video games are good for pastimes and a way of engaging with friends and/or
family. Video gaming is effective for developing good cognitive thinking skills especially for
young people, a fun hobby and a way of interacting and meeting new people online. While it is
proven that there are unhealthy downsides in video gaming. We think that due to the fact that
these downsides can be easily avoided by responsibly managing time. Be mindful about how
your child uses electronic devices and video games and what apps and games they use. The use of
gadgets by children should have limitations. Focus on real world games for younger children. On
a final note, this isn’t only for children but for everybody who uses devices and plays video
games.
