Dear Hiring Manager,
I had the pleasure of meeting Jane Smith at a Design Thinking workshop facilitated by SFU’s Management Consulting
Career Prep (MCCP) program. Over coffee, Jane and I discussed the steps that ABC Consulting is taking to reflect the
changing need for fluidity between technology and business strategy. Additionally, at the ABC Consulting Information
Session, Jane shared examples of the firm’s commitment to its people. I am applying to ABC Consulting because of the
company’s willingness to adapt to business needs and commitment to the development of their employees. I am confident
that I will make meaningful contributions as I thrive in team-oriented, challenging, and impact-driven environments, and I
possess the problem solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills of an effective Junior Consultant.
My internship as a Strategy Analyst at Sample Draft, a boutique digital agency, sharpened my aptitude for problem solving.
In this role, my primary engagement was helping Translink envision and operationalize a more customer-centric approach
to digital. Throughout the strategic planning process, I worked with a team to set broad exploratory questions, from which
I executed detailed research. Based on my analysis, I provided my team with insights and recommendations for the strategy,
with one of my recommendations guiding the core customer strategy that will enable a more effective roll-out. Due to my
success in the role, I have been brought back on contract to provide analyst support.
My analytical skills are demonstrated not only through my work experiences in analyst roles and as a case competitor, but
also my academic experiences. As a capstone project for the BADM certificate, I engaged with Arc’teryx to determine if e-
commerce ads should be targeted based on weather events. Using my analytical capabilities and my logical reasoning, I
developed an approach based on a set of hypotheses to form a recommendation. Based on the analysis, we recommended
the stakeholder not target online ads based on weather alone. Our findings allowed Arc’teryx to redirect marketing budget
to a more effective strategy.
As a case competitor I have demonstrated my interpersonal skills through my ability to work effectively in a team and
deliver high quality results. I have dedicated 1,000 hours to training, often spending 12-hour days working with a case team.
In these cross-functional teams, I took on a leadership role, guiding my team through the deliberation process. I used
listening skills, communication, analytical decision making, and high emotional intelligence to ensure my teams maintained
an effective dynamic and met our deadlines. As a result of my strong interpersonal skills, I have been chosen to represent
SFU at high-caliber competitions all over the world.

I am applying to express my interest in the Junior Consultant (#98112) co-op position, which I have come across
on the Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) MyExperience page. ABC Consulting is known to be the leading organization
in bridging the gap between technology and business strategy. During the ABC Consulting Information Session, this
initiative was very evident, and I find that this is closely tied with my values and commitment to providing forward-
thinking strategies in helping advance business and client success. These initiatives and values, along with my
exceptional critical thinking, teamwork and communication skills are the reasons I would a great fit for the Junior
Consultant role at ABC Company.
In my current role as a Marketing Intern at AVP Software, I was able to effectively increase the user base by 33%
through collaborating with senior managers, team members and other stakeholders and identifying areas of
improvement in our consumer outreach initiatives. I facilitated this through conducting market research, outlining
potential markets and consumer demographics within the industry, and analyzing the monthly consumer data
reports through the use of Excel and other analytical models. The success of this project was a testament of my
strong critical thinking and analytical skills, and my ability to work collaboratively in a team to accomplish a
common goal.
As a current president and former Vice President of Operations at a student run organization called Management
Information Systems Association (MISA), I have had the pleasure of leveraging my teamwork and communication
skills in various projects. As a Vice President of Operations, I successfully recruited 20+ participants to partake in
the ThinkTech competition to create smart-home solutions for one of their multibillion-dollar clients. This involved
having to change my communication and leadership style to ensure we were all clear on the task at hand, and we
were able to capitalize on each other’s strength throughout the process. Additionally, as a current President of
MISA, I have successfully increased MISA’s membership by 50% through creating and facilitating multiple case
competitions and workshops where I have communicated the value that the participants can gain from this
organization. My teamwork and communication skills can be an asset when working in teams and communicating
with individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds.
